Episode 50 - Talking Target Setups with Doug from The Offcenter Archers
Well i've finally made it back and am hoping to bring you more episodes on a regular basis.  I'll get into what's kept me away in another episode.  But what better way to get started again than with the help of a friend.  For Episode 50, we are joined by Doug From the Offcenter Archers.  In this episode we will discuss basic target bow setup tricks that anyone can use.  This can be especially helpful considering that indoor season is now upon us and we will get into some simple techniques tht can help you get a little extra edge.  Best of all, most if not all of them can be done right at home or on the range.  We will cover some "mystical" tuning tricks that can help you improve your score and take some of the mystery out of setting up for tournament season. We will also cover some of what's to come on future episodes as well as on our Youtube channel.  Its good to be back.....for how long.....who knows! Episode 48 - Simple Tuning Unraveled
Episode 48 - Simple Tuning Unraveled
Episode 48 focuses on just simple tuning basics.  We've done episodes on tuning in the past.  But in this episode we try to break it down into simple logic.  From how to set the exact center shot (no 13/16 is not the automatic go to all the time) to nock height and preventing arrow pinch and paper tuning at the PROPER distance.  We go over the basic supplies you should have to get the job done, and most of them you already own!   The companion video will be uploaded to our YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/highpowerarchery  later this week.  Please be sure to subscribe to our channel and podcast to stay up to date and be alerted when we release new content.  Lots more to come there! And as always there is another edition of don't be that guy. It pretty mild so no yelling this time. Episode 47 - The Total Release Solution
Episode 47 - The Total Release Solution
Episode 47 focuses on what we call the total release solution.  In this episode we cover how to make your release an extension of your body.  What to look for and how to set it all in motion for a controlled shot.  And while most would think this only applies to compound shooters and mechanical releases, it all applies to traditional and recurve shooters as well. We will delve into how they also need to have a total release solution and how to achieve it. The companion video will be uploaded to our YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/highpowerarchery  later on this evening.  Please be sure to subscribe to our channel and podcast to stay up to date and be alerted when we release new content.  Lots more to come there! And as always there is another edition of don't be that guy. I got a little tuned up than usual on this one.....sorry! Episode 46 - Bow Sights and Peep Sights - The right way to select them
Episode 46 focuses on bow sights and peeps.  We have discussed this before but we will get into what kind of sight is right for you and why.  And how the peep sight (there are many variations) fits into all of this. We will also cover how something as simple as how the peep sight is set up can drastically affect how far you can shoot with your sight (regardless of your ability).   And as always there is another edition of don't be that guy. I got a little tuned up on this one.....sorry! Episode 45 - Effective Range for Bowhunters AND Target Shooters
Episode 45 is all about effective range.  its a topic we've discussed in the past, and normally it is usually directed towards bowhunters only.  But as you will find out, it also has a lot to do with target shooters.  We'll get into what its all about, factors that affect your effective range, and most importantly, how to extend it. And as always there is another edition of don't be that guy.  Not a crazy one, but I do try to get a point across with this one!   Also as mentioned on the previous podcast, please try to help out Leiyan with her college funding.  The go fund me page is set up here: https://tinyurl.com/LeiyansCollegeFund As always be sure to visit us at our site HighPowerArchery.com and to send us any questions you may have. Episode 43 - Strength vs Technique - How To Properly Increase Your Draw Weight
Episode 43 - Strength vs Technique - How To Properly Increase Your Draw Weight
Episode 43 is about strength vs technique.  You can be as strong as an ox, but without proper technique, pulling back a 40 or 50lb bow could be really difficult.  It all boils down to technique.  We will go over my method when it comes to drawing properly, what it really comes down to, and how its easier to escalate your draw weight than you would think.  We'll cover how i get my students shooting practically any draw weight they desire as long as they follow this simple method. And as always there is another edition of don't be that guy.  Have to apologize in advance, this one got really heated.  But its one of those subjects that tends to set me off! Also as mentioned on the podcast, please try to help out Leiyan with her college funding.  The go fund me page is set up here:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/p4mfx3-help-pay-for-college?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1 We'll cover her story in more detail on the live call in show scheduled for 10am Eastern time March 6th!  Check our website and Facebook page for more details on how to connect with us on the live show! Episode 42 - Random Topics with Special Guest Richard Clarke of the Archery Geek Outdoors Podcast
Episode 42 features our special guest Richard Clarke, host of the Archery Geek Outdoors Podcast.  Richard is based in the UK and we got together on this one to discuss various topics including what makes a good coach, hunting, archery shops, and a host of other subjects.  It was a great chat that I've been looking forward to for a while.  Getting the perspective of someone from outside the US is always eye opening for sure.  This was the first of a series of podcasts we will do with Archery Geek Outdoors so stay tuned for more. And as always there is another edition of don't be that guy.  This one wasn't exactly planned, but Richard brought up a subject that lets just say required some heat to be brought down upon some folks.  It won't disappoint! Episode 41 - Blank Bale Practice - Target Panic Cure? Umm...No...But....
Episode 41 is all about blank bale shooting.  Preached as the only cure for target panic by most coaches, its really not what its cracked up to be.  In fact, used improperly, it can make things worse.  Its has its purpose but not necessarily in the way its been pumped up as as end all be all cure for this dreaded problem.  Don't worry, we get into how to use it properly and how we address target panic in other ways. And as always there is another edition of don't be that guy.  Little more heated this time....but it gets the pint across! Episode 40 - Rigid Form and Coaching - You can't make this stuff up!
Episode 40 - Rigid Form and Coaching - You can't make this stuff up!
Episode 40 is all about being too rigid when it comes to coaching form or a particular system.  What works for some will not work for everyone.  Sometimes coaches make their students bend and conform to a particular system just for the sake of it, or because its what's supposed to be done.  And the results are often detrimental to the students.   We will also get into what to do if you don't have access to a coach nearby, what to do, and how to make it work for you.  The fact is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting improvement just doesnt work.  We get into how you can fix shooting problems with just a few small tricks that most coaches know but won't tell you. And as always there is another edition of don't be that guy.  Not a big rant this time....but it gets the pint across! Episode 39 - The Podcast returns with special guest Anthony of the Off Center Archers
Episode 39 - The Podcast returns with special guest Anthony of the Off Center Archers
A short time ago, i decided that with so many things going on in my life, namely a divorce, serious health issues, and a few other things, it was no longer possible to keep the High Power Archery Operations going.  Between the podcast, coaching, and working on customer equipment, it became nearly impossible to dedicate the time necessary to keep it all going at the level which my students, listeners and customers deserved. A few months later, and after talking with both my students and someone very close to me, I've decided to get things going again.  In this episode, I'm joined by Anthony, one half of the Off Center Archers.  Very few people knew what was going on in my life when i hung it all up, but it was through the support of people like Anthony that i was able to get things back together and make the changes necessary to put things back on track again. In this episode, we go over what's happened, and what's changing.  More importantly we talk about what each of us is doing to get back to doing what we love.  We also have some laughs along the way.  Should be an interesting listen at the very least for the fans. This is the first podcast in our third season.  it will be followed by uploads of our instructional videos to our YouTube Channel and muc more to come.  Its certainly good to be back! Episode 38 - Being Practical with Special Guest Jason Samkowiak
Episode 38 is a very special episode indeed.  Often times people overlook the practical aspects of archery and life in general. It has to do with how you see things for their true worth and how we prioritize them.  There are gadgets and gimmicks and sometimes folks don't make their choices based on what something is really worth to them.   Our special guest for this episode is Jason Samkowiak.  He hosts a very popular podcast and YouTube channel with a ton of content.  But i think you will find our discussion is not just geared towards the target archer or bowhunter, it can apply to anyone at all.  The subject of practicality and perseverance can be applied to all things in life.   You can find Jason's podcast here: http://tbwpodcast.com/ You can find his YouTube Channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQkiplgkZ_ms1ztYpZKf3IQ As always be sure to visit us at our site HighPowerArchery.com and to send us any questions you may have. Episode 34 - Tim Zelenka and the Adjustable Red Dot Bow Sight
Episode 34 - Tim Zelenka and the Adjustable Red Dot Bow Sight
Episode 34 is all about a new product we tested called the Adjustable Red Dot Bow sight.  We had the pleasure of speaking with the man behind the sight, Tim Zelenka.  Its a concept that has been tried before but Tim has found a way to make it work and a design that is durable and machine to the tightest of tolerances.   We go over how the sight works as well as our experiences using it.  Like other products we review, we put this one to the test and as we aren't sponsored by anyone, we just put out the simple facts of what we found testing the sight with real everyday people......our students! We're always looking for new innovative products that actually work, and this one does not disappoint.  For more information, you can contact Tim at https://adjustablereddot.com.  He's a friendly down to earth guy who will answer any question you might have. Episode 33 - Live with the Offcenter Archers
Our first episode back after two months.  After a loss in the family and a bunch of other things that Life has thrown at us, we are back with our latest episode.  And who better to get things going again than the Anthony and Stephanie of the Offcenter Archers podcast.  These two folks helped me get started with the podcast and are a truly great listen.  We had to PG it for this one....(remember the kids people!) but it was truly a great time.  It always seems we lose track of time and this one is over 2 hours long.  We cover all sorts of subjects from coaching to just life in general and i can tell you there's something for everyone in this one!  We will upload another version with a little cleaner audio later this week but this one is an interesting listen either way! We also answer listener questions and feature another segment of “Don’t be that Guy” just a little more mellow this time..didn't want to wake their kids! More episodes will be coming later this week as we catch up on episodes and segments that would have been released during our absence. Episode 25 is all about Aiming Techniques.  Its a subject we've covered briefly before but with hunting season and indoor season coming up soon (we hope at least) i'm seeing a whole bunch of folks with the same issue.  Basically speaking aiming is about perspective.  The wrong focus point and you will have loads of issues.  We will cover how to get past that.   We will also cover some more listener questions and, of course, our "Don't be that Guy!" segment will be in this episode as well.
