The Science of Friendship and Connection with Dr. Miriam Kirmayer

The Science of Friendship and Connection with Dr. Miriam Kirmayer

Dr. Miriam Kirmayer is a clinical psychologist, writer, speaker, and relationship expert who has spent the last decade studying adult friendships and connection. -On this episode we dive into why it’s so hard to make friends as an adult, what are some reasons why relationships end and how we can cultivate and make new friends as we attempt to “adult”. -“Unlike our relationships with our partners or family members, there’s no outright expectation that we have to stay involved in our friend’s lives. Our friendships are voluntary and it’s the ongoing choice we make to stay connected to our friends that makes the support we received from them so incredibly validating and important for our overall well-being and self-worth.” -Connect with Dr. Kirmayer and her research: www.miriamkirmayer.com, @miriamkirmayer

Exploring growth and self awareness through the Enneagram

Exploring growth and self awareness through the Enneagram

On today’s episode of the @mindmeetsbodypodcast I sit down with Steph Baron Hall of @ninetypesco for enneagram 101. Steph breaks down each type-there’s 9-similar to personalities, think Myers-Briggs but rooted in understanding behaviors through core motivations. We discuss how we can utilize this tool for personal awareness, growth and to explore our shadow side. She also shares the power of understanding ourselves while not over-identifying, our potential for ultimately incorporating all of these types for balanced living and her wildly popular “nine types of rest” post.

Resilience or Emotional Bypassing?

Resilience or Emotional Bypassing?

First episode in 2 months! Join me for an intimate and personal conversation on emotional processing and bypassing. I share a bit of my history with depression and how at the age of 19 I decided (unconsciously) to emotionally bypass difficult emotions after the sudden death of a family member. The concept of emotional bypassing is discussed along with a few of the ways in which we may engage in this behavior and how our society and culture actually encourages it! Also, I provide a few ways in which we can begin to view "negative" emotions (fear, anger, sadness) as necessary for our growth. Next week I'll be back with regular guests. In the meantime, enjoy!
With love,
Grace

Turning Emotional Data into Intelligence

Karlyn Percil, Certified Emotional Intelligence & Neuro-Life Coach, joins me in an amazing discussion on how to turn our emotional data into intelligence. Through her coaching, sister talk circles, success planner and many other tools, Karlyn's goal is to empower more women to LEAD – live & engage authentically daily. In this episode we talk about redefining our reality, owning our narratives to take our power back, and turning the data we are given by our emotions into intelligence. Karlyn shares her tools on working through elephant stories, challenging negative feedback loops and unpacking our "SIMU"s-Story I'm Making Up. Our shadow self and trauma responses explained

Our shadow self and trauma responses explained

Seerut K. Chawla, London based trauma informed informed psychotherapist, joins me on the show as we unpack family dynamics, attachment, trauma, our shadow self, and so much more. It was such a complete conversation I had a really difficult time trying to pinpoint what to even call the episode! Seerut breaks down attachment styles, digs deep into our human messiness and explains how our shadow self, the part of us that is largely unconscious, made up of our old wounds, reactivity, etc. is needed for our whole person healing. She explains the stress-trauma continuum and offers tools along with the best way to start working through our unprocessed trauma.
