How Do I Adult?

This is the second bonus episode of the series, where I've been hearing from people about their views and experiences of the adult world. 

So I know this was only supposed to be an 8-episode series… but the story continues. I wanted to share a couple of bonus episodes, involving longer conversations with special guests, to hear in more detail about their experiences and opinions of the REAL WORLD.

In the final episode we talk friendships in the real world. I discuss how the relationships with our friends change as we get older, hear from a variety of people about their own experiences and look at the role technology plays in our friendships.

Thanks so much for all the support on this series so far. It’s been a labour of love for me that I started recording for back in October 2019, so it feels great to have it finished and out into the world finally!

In this episode, on home and housing, I heard from people that had moved back in with their parents as adults, chat about what makes somewhere a home and discuss how the cost of housing has changed since my Grandma was my age. I also chatted to Emma, from the youth homelessness charity Depaul UK, who gave us an insight into the most common causes of homelessness, where to start if we're worried about housing problems and how we can help.

Episode 6 looks at a pretty big part of adulting... jobs. Most people (except royals and stuff) need a job to survive, and finding a good one is important. In this episode we look at the pressures of getting a job (and the right job), what a graduate scheme is and how to find the right job for you. We hear from people that have never had a full-time job, had loads of jobs, own their own business and even a careers advisor, to get their opinions and advice on the big bad working world.

In this episode we discuss the role technology plays in our lives and the way we view the world in 2020. We also discuss how social media has changed the way we live and act compared to even a few years ago. The fast changes technology brings with it means that there is no longer a precedent for how we should act in the real world, so in Episode 5 we try and get to the bottom of whether these changes are a good or bad thing and what the future might look like.

This episode looks at the, sometimes controversial, topic of money. We hear from a variety of people about their experiences and attitudes, get some tips on managing your money and I try to explain to my mum what third wheeling means.

Episode 3 looks at how (or whether) the education we get prepares us for the real world. We start by talking about school, then discuss whether getting a degree is really still worth it.

Episode 2 jumps straight into the topic of dating and relationships. I speak to people with a variety of experience in relationships to hear their opinions, worries, stories and the occasional piece of advice, as we try to navigate the simple matter of finding someone to spend the rest of our lives we.
