Episode 36: Johannes Vermeer & Dale Chihuly
Hey Hey Hey Friends, Foes, Formaldehyde it's us. We are slow. At making this podcast but aren't we cute when we just post it on up outta nowhere? Skippers you should move along to about 25 mins in so you don't get irrationally angry about how long we take to get to the good stuff. And good it is my people. Neysa kicks us off with some short and sweet details about one sick bruh, Johannes Vermeer a guy from Delft, Netherlands who painted his home town a grand total of 36 times. You know Delft? The hottest place around. After this Jocelyn gets into the controversial contemporary glass artist Dale Chihuly. You like chandeliers? Because ho boy do we got some chandeliers for you. Tune in to hear us discuss these home boys and as always head to our insta for some reference pics from the episode. Live, Laugh, Lobotomy. ~ Jocelyn & Neysa
Episode 35: Frank Stella and the Knoedler Gallery Scandal
Why hello hello art friends and foes! We're back for the Holiday season dropping a hot one for your ears. In this episode we don't actually cover the art until about 45 mins in so be prepared for some wild takes. Jocelyn brings a sad update about one former security guard whose untimely death rolls into a hilarious joke. Neysa regales us with a feisty retelling of an exes betrayal. During the art portion Jocelyn covers some juicy tidbits about the abstract expressionist painter Frank Stella, while Neysa shits all over him. In her segment Neysa tells us all about a shocking art scam surrounding a group of abstract expressionists and a prominent New York Gallery. Enjoy and share the podcast love! As always follow us on the gram @iminoredinarthistorypod to see which paintings we're referring to!
Episode 34: David Huggins & John Singer Sargent
Oh you know what time it IS! You want art history? We have some poorly delivered information for yah. Skip ahead to 23 minutes in for us to get to the first artist of this 1.5 hours episode, David Huggins! A man who painted his over 30+ years of experience as an alien stud. Things get wild, so buckle up. We move on to Neysa's boring old white man, John Singer Sargent a turn of the century portrait artist. Cool paintings, boring life though. Sprinkled into this episode the tangents abound and fair warning we can't help but follow the rabbit. What we really need the people to answer is do you remember Twinkies being banana flavored?
Episode 33: Junji Ito and Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun
We know you're parched after such a long wait for the Hot Tea, but babies, it was worth the wait! We've gone from Neysa being stoked on a boy to being ready to crush him with her bare hands (ish). Jocelyn announces her and Mike's anniversary, as well as a funky impulsive thought that you'll wanna stick around until the end of the episode to hear!
Buried under all the goss, you'll learn a little about Japan's premier horror mangaka, Junji Ito (July 31, 1963 - present) and a lot more about French Rococo painter Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun (April 16, 1755 - March 30, 1842).
Strap in, it's a wild one.

Episode 31: Alex Katz and The Dumfries House Forgeries Scandal
Hello again! In this feast for your senses Jocelyn tells us all about her American artist Alex Katz and his totally not boring and highly admired works that Neysa definitely loves. Buckle your pants an extra notch for the interruptions in this tidbit. For her tale Neysa does an international scandal involving famous American forger Tony Tetro, James Stunt (former son-in-law of English billionaire Bernie Ecclestone) and one and only now King Charles III. As you know us two ladies LOVE a good scandal. As always leave a review on the gram @iminoredinarthistorypod on Apple, or Spotify. We kept it light on the personal tea for this one (I'm thinking of you 4.5 star reviewer). Happy Listening!
Episode 30 Part 1: Propaganda Art with Mike
Back again for our July episode! This time with a special guest; introducing Jocelyn's bf, Mike! After sharing some intimate details most of us would have chosen not to hear (except not us because we're freaks amirite) we dive right into the topic of the hour, propaganda art. Mike takes us all the way through from the overall concept to historical effects of propaganda in World War 1 and World War 2. (Instagram took down the nazi propaganda pics lol) Lots of laughs abound in this delightful part 1 to our 30 episode special. Head on over to part 2 where Jocelyn and Neysa take off on a plethora of tangents. Hold onto your hats!
Episode 30 Part 2: Color Theory & Abortion Paintings of Paula Rego
It's hot, hot for Episode 30. Mike hangs out staring lovingly at his beau as she gives us an informative rundown of color theory and how to properly use shade and tints. Also do babies know colors? And should they learn different ones? It's all here for you folks. Neysa is still raging steady about abortion rights as we all should. She touches on Paula Rego -arguably one of the few artists that accurately captures the turmoil of pregnant people as they prepare for their abortion in a back alley clinic. If you or someone you know needs an abortion in a restricted state please go to www.abortionfinder.org.
Episode 29: Weird Art "The Hands Resist Him" & Ana Mendieta
We're late, again! Our lives are busy busy but we have another delicious episode for your ear holes full of our voices. Jocelyn brings it with a very odd and obscure tale of the painting "The Hands Resist Him" and it's quirky history on the internet. Neysa gives us a feminist icon, although she never wanted to be, Ana Mendieta. Jocelyn reveals a wonderful personal life twist that you probably weren't expecting, meanwhile trouble brews with Neysa and a certain roommate. We love all your support for the pod and apologize sincerely for slacking. As always we'd love a follow on Instagram and please check out our linktree in our bio AND whether you love us, hate us, feel ambivalent about us send us tips, artists/art history to do, a strange deep meme you have no one else to share with... We love it!
Episode 28: Kano Eitoku & Franz Kafka
It's been over a month! Did you miss us? In this episode Neysa gives us a stunning definitely non white guilt related telling of a Japanese screen painter from the 16th century Kano Eitoku, this dude was a screen making L E G E N D. Jocelyn brings us back around to a PTSD inducing name we all remember Franz Kafka in all of his buggy glory. It's not our usual since he's a writer but hey we didn't specify that art history was limited to the multi-media arts did we? We might've - but who cares! We do what we want! We also talk about our personal lives obvi, some information on Neysa's dental journey, baby shower tales and how roommates work. As always give us a shout in the comments, the DM's whatever and wherever. Let us know you love the pod, what artists you want to see or even if you despise us! As always, thanks for listening.
Episode 27: Janet Fish & The Art of the Gilded Age
This episode Jocelyn takes you into the wonderful and hyper-realistic? world of Janet Fish which she picked for her own very super special, super serious reasons. Taking it back to the turn of the century, the 20th century that is, Neysa gives you a grounding history lesson surrounding the time period known as The Gilded Age with a sprinkle of information on how this affected artists of the time. Never ones to disappoint they wrap the episode with a perfect slice of dating escapades and a rant about how to talk to yourself when you're on a terrible date with an average dude. In case you weren't aware find us on Instagram at Iminoredinarthistorypod and DM us some requests for artists or a spicy complaint we love it all! Enjoy!
Episode 26: Norman Rockwell & Jessica Hische
Welcome back and happy listening to Season 2 of I Minored in Art History! In this episode Neysa kicks us off with a heavy hitter, Americana darling, Norman Rockwell. Jocelyn eases us into the modern day with the beautiful, talented (and possibly the hipster responsible for having love outlawed); graphic designer Jessica Hische! As always we get a download on the latest changes since the several month break and some of them may be shocking! Tune in for your fill of tea and we can't wait to bring you more art history in 2022. Send us a DM on Instagram with your suggestions of artists to regale you with!
Episode 25: The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art & a Couple Art Scams
What the fuck is up, dudes? We start this episode with info fairly quickly, so you don't really even need to skip ahead much at all! What a treat for the final episode of season 1!
Neysa brings us the deets about The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, located in Sarasota, FL and Jocelyn brings us some tantalizing Art Scams ("Take The Money and Run" Jens Haaning, MSCHF's Andy Warhol 'Fairies' forgeries) from recent months! Jocelyn might have said 100 at one point but really meant 1,000 - she's just bad at reading numbers.
Also SPOILER Neysa's buying a house! Hot damn!
I also want to acknowledge that I was very insensitive with my comments about homeless people and I had originally cut it but in an effort to be transparent, I left it in. I also took the time to check out some resources for helping the homeless and want to share one that I thought was fairly accessible HERE - I usually donate my stuff to charity when I can, but not salvation army because they're anti LGBT+

Episode 21: Artemisia Gentileschi & Gustav Klimt
Recorded in June, posted in August, it's another scandalous episode of I Minored In Art History! Neysa and Jocelyn talk about nonsense for the first half hour, so skip there if you want to know some things about Artemisia Gentileschi, Italian Baroque painter (1593-1653) and all around badass. ***TRIGGER WARNING*** R*pe mention. Neysa brings it in with Gustav Klimt, Austrian symbolist painter (1862-1918) and female body appreciator.

Episode 20: Calligraphy, Sally Mann, and "Madame Monet & Her Son"
Back with a real banger of an episode that'll probably give you a headache because of the hiss that happened since I cranked up the input 'cause our special guest Lauren (aka "Bunny") doesn't talk real loud!
Believe me, I tried my best to get rid of it.
In any case, Jocelyn talks a tiny bit about Calligraphy, Lauren tells us about American photographer Sally Mann (1951-still alive!), and Neysa talks about a painting called "Madame Monet & Her Son" (1875)
We diverge (as usual) to talk about Middle School Nonsense (yikes), an upcoming podcast that Lauren & Jocelyn are planning, and a few other ridiculous things.

Neysa tells us the history behind Pigments and Paints (nice) and Jocelyn tells us a smidge about French Post-Impressionist Painter Paul Cezanne (1839-1906).
We also talk about Astrology, Corona Concerts, Everclear (the band and the alcohol), our eye colors, Tik Tok Mop Art, and CAN YOU GUYS TELL OUR VOICES APART? How long did it take until you could?

Potentially less interesting content includes a shout out for Dean - former Hot Topic manager, Animorphs, Neysa and I being bullies in high school, Neysa’s private school experience (yikes!), and our methods of dealing with boring conversations.

Gibson (1867-1944) and someone's favorite Spanish painter but obviously not ours, Pablo Picasso (1881-1973).
Neysa talks about a 100+ year old book that she got from her cool cousin Dennis; we discuss how Picasso is overrated and why he had such a fuckin ego on him; and as usual, we talk about a few other things. Also in this episode: Who are the Gibson Girls and why are they so hot?

We're talkin' about portrait painter Carrie Smith (formerly Kilgore) (hey girl, hey!) (1991 - current) and fantasy/comic artist Frank Frazetta (1928 - 2010).
>>My info on Carrie is a bit outdated now, she's no longer in St. Pete full time but we'll talk about that more in a later episode.

Around the 30 minute mark, we start talking about feminist artist Hannah Wilke (1940-1993) and then follow that with some hot tea on architect Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), the man who made open concept homes A Thing.

Here comes another long episode for your ear holes! We talk about surrealist painter Rene Magritte (1898 – 1967) and photo-realistic artist Vija Celmins (1938 - ???) who Jocelyn mispronounces by mistake a few times.
We're a little behind schedule, so this is coming more than a week after our last upload, but life happens!!! We just want to make you laugh. Please tell us you laughed.
ANYWAY, what do you think a co-pilot is? The slang term, not the actual term. We talk about it and how Neysa's brothers owe her an oil change, in addition to other frivolous nonsense. Trust me, there's plenty.

We also have A GUEST!!!!! For the first time in (I Minored In Art) History!!! Haha, get it? No? Tough crowd.
Even though I literally mention cutting something from this episode, I didn't cut a single thing. Just sayin'!
Anyway, Alyssa joins us to talk about Mark Aeling - local sculptor of International acclaim (!), Tom Thomson - Canadian painter (1877-1917), and Daguerrotypes (circa 1839) - a predecessor to modern photography! Episode 9: Jane Emmet de Glehn & Ancient Roman Dick Art!
What up Minor Guild! Jocelyn royally Fucked Up and somehow managed to lose ALL the audio for episode 8. We literally do not know what the hell happened to it! It's Lost. Jocelyn cried about it because it was there and then the next time she opened her computer, the base files were all gone for episodes 1-11. The rest had been exported correctly, but for some reason apparently episode 8 got exported incorrectly. (shrug emoji)
Anyway, Episode 9 has some juicy deets for your li'l ear holes. We chat about painter Jane Emmet de Glehn (1873-1961) and Ancient Roman Dick Art (8th Century BC-5th Century AD)!
The weird staticky noises are us getting dick pics (just kidding) and having our phones too close to the mics.
We drag Jocelyn's friend Beenly, she decides that Romans came up with the OG truck nuts, and we find out that she hadn't seen the "Me Want Bite" tiktok video series. That has since been remedied, they're very catchy.

In this episode we talk about Sandro Botticelli (1445 - 1510), you know him - probably as the guy who painted The Birth of Venus. You've seen it, we've all seen it. She's coming out of a giant clam shell. Anyway, we talk about Aleister Crowley (1875 - 1947) too, who we think at first was a cool guy but then find out he suuuucked.

We talk about Avatar: The Last Airbender a little, some family history, the size of Rhode Island and St. Pete. What does an anniversary actually count for? We can't decide. Jocelyn channels Dave Grohl ghosthoney style and THEN we get into Alphonse Mucha (July 24, 1860 - July 14, 1939) a fabulous Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist.

Episode 4: Julius "Cats" Adam and J.C. Leyendecker
Episode 4 is a wild ride from the get go.
Neysa discovers that Jocelyn actually has no idea how to pronounce A Lot Of Things and roasts her for it.
After laughing at what we find out is Not A Bit, we get into our featured artists - Julius "Cats" Adam (1852-1913), a genre painter who literally just painted cats, and J.C. Leyendecker (1874 – 1951), an American Illustrator and The Saturday Evening Post's former Golden Boy.

Episode 3: William Turner and Berthe Morisot
Welcome back!
In this episode, recorded during a hurricane (!!), Neysa and Jocelyn talk about STDs and other boy-related drama, a single episode of Family Guy, and we try to figure out where a restaurant Neysa visited was.
Featured Artists we talk about are English Romantic landscape painter Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775 - 1851) and French Impressionist painter Berthe Morisot (1841 – 1895). Check out our instagram page for the pieces we mention (link below).
