JWK Explains: Why do coaches get fired?

JWK Explains is a series of youtube videos in which I look at unique events or situations and try to explain what happens through sport psychology. I decided to post the audio only versions here, you can check out the full episode here.

When a team isn't performing as it should in professional sports, there is always one thing you can be sure that is going to happen: the coach gets fired. This strategy has become so common that is is not hard to predict when a coaches' time is up.

In this episode of JWK Explains, I want to have a look at the interesting situation. Is firing the coach actually a viable strategy to boost your team's performance? And what are some of the proposed reason behind this move?

The Imperfect Athlete Intro: Why are mistakes so important?

The Imperfect Athlete Intro: Why are mistakes so important?

Nobody changes their behaviour after a successful play, win or season. Only when a mistake is made, people tend to change their behaviour. Yet, when we talk about athletes, we mostly talk about their achievements. I want to change that by interviewing athletes, coaches and other support staff and ask them about the biggest mistakes they made in their careers, but most importantly, how those mistakes made them into the person they are today.
