We're back at it after a mini break, and just in time for the month of October, we're diving into another horror movie franchise! This time we are discussing the cult classic, The Evil Dead (1981)!
Joining again, as guest cohost, is the lovely, "Queen of the spooky", Devyn Ray, and she's here to discuss every bloody detail of this wild indie horror gem.
Host, Zacary Landolt, had admittedly never seen this film franchise before, and he truly was not prepared for what he saw! Tune in to hear all of their thoughts, and to find out what their personal picks for "scream queen of the week", and "kill of the week".
"Join us...", won't you?!
#65. Film Fridays: Freddy Vs. Jason (with special guest: Tom Cornell)
#64. Film Fridays: Friday the 13th (2009)
Today, Zacary and Devyn are talking about the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th. It somehow manages to deflate any real mystery from the story, and commits the ultimate crime of explaining TOO MUCH.
But don’t worry, because the only thing more fun to talk about than a good remake, is a BAD remake! Zacary and Devyn dive into the characters, screenplay, goofs, kills, and the man himself, Jason Vorhees!
Also if you have a fear of dying in a sleeping bag, then this film is a serious trigger warning!
As always, your favorite duo give out their personal picks for “scream queen of the week”, and “kill of the week”!
#63. Film Fridays: Jason X
#62. Film Fridays: Jason Goes to Hell- The Final Friday
#61. Film Fridays: Friday the 13th Part 8- Jason Takes Manhattan
It's time to climb aboard a boat with Jason, and an endless supply of teen targets, and head to the city that never sleeps! Anyone who's been listening to this series knows that Zacary has been so excited for this sequel in the franchise, and after seeing it, he can only say that he was...disappointed.
For a film that relies on a gimmick, and even has the city name included in the title, it sure does take a long time to even arrive there. Zacary and Devyn discuss this wild sequel that includes rockers, drug visions, unbothered New Yorkers on the subway, and a cranky waitress.
As always, they close things out by giving their picks for "scream queen of the week", and "kill of the week"! So come on campers, start spreading the news! Jason wants to be a part of it. New York, New York!
#60. Messy Mondays: "I warned you!"
Well listeners, they gave you fair warning, and now the time has come for Zacary and Tom to float away, and continue to have messy Mondays somewhere else! But they have one last fun show before they go, and don't worry, they have all of the details so you'll know how to follow them on their new adventure!
Also, to keep things light and fun, we start off the episode with a discussion about narcissism in the gay community. Woohoo!
Later in the show, they also answer some questions from reddit, and Zacary talks about a messy moment of his own! So come join the last show on In Another World!
#59. Film Fridays: Friday the 13th Part 7- The New Blood
Hey campers! It’s time to head down to Crystal lake again, for the newest recap of Friday the 13TH. This week, we’re covering the 7th entry, Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood.
Apparently this was the movie that one of the producers wanted to “win an Academy Award”. SPOILER ALERT: it did not, in fact, win any Academy Awards.
This is the first movie in the series that brought another supernatural element into play, namely, telekinesis. Imagine “Carrie vs. Jason”, and you’ve pretty much got the idea of this one. It’s a wild ride, and Zacary and Devyn had a blast talking about it.
As always, they give their personal picks for “scream queen of the week”, and “kill of the week”!
#58. Messy Mondays: The Airbnb Fiasco
#57. Film Fridays: Friday the 13th Part 6- Jason Lives
#56. Messy Mondays: Tom and Zacary recorded a theme song
It’s time for another edition of Messy Mondays, and since Tom and Zacary discussed the topic of jobs last week, they figured they would start things off with the very light topics of death, and the year of 2020. Don’t worry, they find a way to somehow make jokes and get some levity into the program.
They also talk about the upcoming theme song that will be feature on the spin off pod, thats coming soon. It was written by Tom, and you’ll get to hear the misadventures of Zacary recording a vocal track.
And later in the show, they read some stores from the internet about everything from a guy who wants to explore the male spectrum of his bisexuality (much to the hatred of his “girlfriend”), to another bigger question about what happens when dating starts to feel harder when you’re a gay person over the age of thirty.
It’s a fun time on the show today, everyone!
#55. Film Fridays: Friday the 13th Part 5- A New Beginning
This movie is packed with so many horror tropes, and too many characters to care about. Also, somehow there is a lot of ranting about the musical, “Guys and Dolls” (just as a warning).
And of course, like they always do, they award their personal choices for the honors of “scream queen of the week”, and “kill of the week”. So let’s go campers! Slash just kidding, we still somehow haven’t seen any campers in this film series…
#54. Messy Mondays: A Talk About…Jobs
And after that chat they go into the "Messy Mondays" segment, which includes, questions about relationships, as well as a story about a truly awful kisser!
So tune in listeners, and be sure to catch the announcement, at the top of the episode, about the future of the show!
#53. Film Fridays: Friday the 13th Part 4- The Final Chapter
#52. Messy Mondays: “I’d rather die, than be wet!”
#51. Film Fridays: Friday the 13th Part 3
It's Friday again, which means it's time to head back to Crystal Lake, to spend another "Film Fridays" with Jason! This week, host Zacary Landolt, and guest co-host, Devyn Ray, discuss (and roast) the third installment in this franchise.
When this movie was released it was presented with 3-D technology, which means a whole lot of visual gags. One would argue that it's hard to present a discussion that properly shows off the crazy that is all of the 3-D shots, on a podcast. And you would be right. So there aren't a ton of clips this week, campers, because it's hard to hear popcorn shooting at the screen.
This movie is truly 80's time capsule. As always, Zacary and Devyn declare their picks for "scream queen of the week", and "kill of the week"!
Let's go on this wild ride, ya'll!
#50. Messy Mondays: "Will & Grace gays"
It’s time to jump into another edition of “Messy Mondays”, for Monday, July 5th. This week, hosts Zacary Landolt, and Tom Cornell discuss this weeks episode of Rupaul’s Drag Race: All stars 6, Fear Street 1994, and other pop culture moments from the past week.
Later, in the official Messy Mondays segment, they get into a discussion about masculinity in the LGBTQ community, and they talk about the art of taking a compliment. Zacary has a letter from someone online who is being set up on a date from their fraternity brother, and Tom reads a letter from someone who’s boyfriend is definitely on the needy side. As always, they offer their advice, and remind the listeners that they are absolutely NOT licensed medical professionals.
#49. Film Fridays: Friday the 13th Part 2
#48. Messy Mondays: "Oh sweetie, I think you're just young"
Well it was a busy week in pop culture, so that means a jam-packed Messy Mondays! Your hosts Zacary and Tom, discuss the intense revelations in the Britney Spears court case, the coming out of NFL star Carl Nissib, and they unpack some thoughts about the premiere of Rupaul’s Drag Race: All Stars 6.
Tom also rants about a recent binge of the Peacock original comedy, Girls5Eva, much to the delight of Zacary, who has already been beaming with gay love for the new show that stars: Sara Bareilles, Busy Phillips, Paula Pell, and Renee Elise Goldsberry.
And they give their thoughts/advice to a queer person questioning if there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to celebrate Pride, and to a poor young thing that is attracted to their friend, and doesn’t know how to approach it. Zacary also dishes a couple anonymous secrets!
#47. Film Fridays: Friday the 13th (1980)
#46. Messy Mondays- “The Vizzy Auhn”
#45. Film Fridays: Urban Legends- Final Cut (with Devyn Ray)
#44. TV Tuesdays: Smash S1 E12 "Publicity" (with Joey Moser)
We've got Uma Thurman's character being very vocal about her peanut allergy, Karen singing Snow Patrol, and an elaborate Bollywood number, that maybe hasn't aged the best.
And as always we close things out with awards points to Ivy or karen, on the "Marilyn leaderboard". This week, in a twist on the usual closing segment where I usually award my "Karen moment of the week", I'll actually be shouting out a "Leo moment of the week"!
#43. Messy Mondays: 6/14/21
It’s Monday again, which means its time to get MESSY with hosts Zacary Landolt, and Tom Cornell! This week on the show, they play movie trailers for each other, of “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” (Zacary’s pick), and “Space Jam 2” (Tom’s pick). Tom also lets us know all of his thoughts about the new Marina album that dropped before recording!
They also comment on the major moment in pop culture that occurred, in the end of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”. It’s truly hard to remember what life was like before it.
Zacary also drops more casting news about the upcoming HBO MAX produced “Sex and the City” reboot: “And Just Like That”.
And they dive into some “messy moments” from some anonymous users from REDDIT, and they do their best to solve their problems. Do they succeed? Well you’ll have to listen and find out!
#42. FILM FRIDAYS: Urban Legend (with Devyn Ray)
It's always a party when Devyn Ray drops in to talk about horror, and this week we're covering a film that is one of the less popular slasher films of the late 90's: Urban Legend! It boasts a cast that includes; Jared Leto, Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Tara Reid, Loretta Devine, Brad Dourif, and even our beloved Robert England.
This film may not be a perfect one, but it sure is a lot a fun to watch, and gab about. We talk about all of the urban legends included in the plot of this horror gem, and discuss one of the greatest villain reveals in modern cinema (too much praise? I think not).
And as we do with all of our horror movies on film Fridays, we declare our picks for "scream queen of the week", and highlight our choices for "kill of the week"!
#41. TV TUESDAYS: Smash S1 E11- The Movie Star (with Arron Holman)
#40. Messy Mondays- 6/7/21 *PREMIERE*
#39. TV TUESDAYS: Smash S1 E10- "Understudy" (with Joey Moser)
It’s Tuesday! Which means its time to talk about SMASH! And it also means if you’ve been following our recaps over the past few weeks, then it should come as no surprise that I’m joined by Joey Moser!
Joey drops in to talk about episode 10, “Understudy”, which teases the arrival of Rebecca Duvall AKA Uma Thurman.
This episode features a lot of light plot, but it somehow is also super dense. Oh, the world of Smash strikes again!
Tune in to see what happens with John (the boring, republican lawyer) and Tom, Julia and her husband, Ivy and the show, and see if Karen makes any hot dogs!
As always, we close things out by adding points to the Marilyn Leaderboard, and I highlight my “Karen moment of the week”.
#38. FILM FRIDAYS: Black Swan (with Tom Cornell)
#37. TV TUESDAYS: Smash S1 E9- “Hell on Earth” (with Joey Moser)
#36. FILM FRIDAYS: A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
#35. TV TUESDAYS: Smash S1 E8- "The Coup" (with Joey Moser)
Joey and I dive into all of the crazy in this episode, which includes almost no music, way too much non-Broadway plot lines, and a truly insane number at a bowling alley.
As always we close out things with adding more points to the "Marilyn Leaderboard", and I present my "Karen moment of the week".
#34. FILM FRIDAYS: Wes Craven's New Nightmare
It's time for another Film Fridays! It's time for the Elm Street series to go Hollywood meta! It's time to talk about the wild movie that is, Wes Craven's New Nightmare.
This film saw a full circle moment, with actors from the original film coming back as theirselves! Wes Craven is a horror genius for sure, but I wouldnt be shocked to find out that he smoked a few joints before having the dreams that inspired this movie.
Tune in to hear me (your host, Zacary Landolt), and my lovely guest cohost ("Queen of the Spooky") Devyn Ray, as we unpack all of the interesting bits of New Nightmare. As always we close out our conversation with the crowning of our "scream queen of the week", and highlighting our personal picks for, "kill of the week".
So lets head to Hollywood, and hangout with the ultimate Hollywood A-lister: Freddy Krueger!
