Episode 17 - Daniel Cassidy, CEO of Major League Triathlon, the first and only professional Triathlon league in North America
Today’s episode is a great conversation I had recently with Daniel Cassidy the CEO of Major League Triathlon, the first and only Professional Triathlon league in the North America.  Dan and I have become close friends over the last few years as I’ve followed the league from its inception in 2016. We cover a wide range of topics today, including  - How Dan’s wife Sarah played an integral role in the creation of MLT through her experience as a Triathlon spectator  - The origin story of Major League Triathlon which started as a way to engage spectators and the general public  - The courage to go all-in and try something new  - Having heroes in professional sports as a young athlete and providing a clear pathway for youth, junior and collegiate athletes aspiring to race at the top of the sport  - My obscure Triathlon hero as a kid!  - The skills and lessons, Dan has taken from sport into business and controlling the things you can control  - Ideas on how to grow engagement and participation in Triathlon -Gender parity and equality in the Mixed Team Relay format.  - The inauspicious beginnings of the series in Temple, Texas and some of the memorable moments from the first 3 seasons of Major League Triathlon.  Finally, it saddens me to share the news of the passing of Mike Plant, Mike was a legend in the sport of triathlon, many consider him the first person to cover the beginnings of the sport in San Diego, CA some 40 years ago. He was a lifelong contributor to the industry, a friend and supporter of Major League Triathlon and a beacon for positivity. Mike you will be missed, mate.  -------------------------- I am very grateful to be able to bring these conversations to you and it wouldn’t be possible without the support from iKOR labs who are the sponsor of today’s InnerVoice audio experience.  iKOR is a clean, natural source of recovery-enhancing full spectrum hemp extract. Episode 16 - Ken Rideout, The Most Interesting Man in the World! Elite endurance sports athlete, father of 4, boxing tragic and co-host of The Fight with Teddy Atlas
Today’s episode is an amazing conversation I had with Ken Rideout while he was in town for the Boston Marathon. For those of you who know Ken will understand what I mean when I say, he might possibly be the most interesting man in the world.  As you’ll hear Ken set an ambitious goal to run a sub-2:30 marathon in Boston, and to win the Masters category. Episode 15 - Mark Satkiewicz, co-founder of SBT GRVL, former CEO of Smartwool, avid endurance athlete and cardiac arrest survivor
Today’s episode is a conversation I had with Mark Satkiewicz, the co-founder of SBT GRVL an exciting new cycling event planned for this Summer in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Mark is an avid endurance athlete and is the former CEO of Smartwool.  As you’ll hear during our call 1 year ago to the day, Mark experienced the most impactful moment of his life. During an easy recovery ride close to his former home in LA, Mark suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.  Given a small chance of recovery and an uncertain long term prognosis, Mark’s world was turned upside down, he acknowledges the mental impact it had on him and is also grateful that his survival has helped him recalibrate what’s important in his life. Mark is an inspiring figure to many, myself included and gives some amazing insight into his career as a C-level executive as well as the details of what is certain to set the SBT GRVL event apart, even as a first year event.   We talk about what could be a marketing case study in the way SBT GRVL enrolled influential athletes to help spread the word about the race, including InnerVoice alumni Ted and Laura King and Amity Rockwell.  ---------------------- Once again thanks to the team at iKOR labs , not only do they sponsor the InnerVoice Audio experience, they also are the official CBD partner of the SBT GRVL event.   iKOR is a clean, natural source of recovery-enhancing full spectrum hemp extract. Episode 13 - Robert MacDonald, founder of Team "I Will", spinal cord injury survivor and endurance athlete
Robert MacDonald's life changed in an instant, during a trip to Mexico, he fell 31 feet from his hotel balcony, landed on his back and had two immediate thoughts. "What have I done", and "I can't feel my legs"... What followed was a journey of resilience and an attitude of "I will" that has motivated a community of incredible people to make a positive impact on the world around them.   Following Robert's accident, with nine broken vertebrae, a dislocated spine, 11 broken ribs, a fractured scapula, a punctured lung, a lacerated kidney, and no sensation below his waist, doctors gave Robert MacDonald a 5% chance of ever walking again. Two years later, he completed a half marathon and three years later he completed his first full marathon. Team "I Will" started with one man, a tragedy and is now one of Toronto’s fastest growing charities. The Toronto Rahab Foundation helped give MacDonald a second chance and three years later, he set out to complete a marathon and give back. Soon a dynamic community had rallied around his mantra and hundreds would challenge themselves to do the same, joining MacDonald in crossing the finish line at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2015.  ---------------------- The InnerVoice Audio experience wouldn't be possible without the support of Ikor Labs, who have sponsored this episode.   iKOR is a natural hemp source of CBD that protects your body from stress, improves athletic recovery and helps you maintain a positive mental state. Episode 12 - Jake Montgomery, professional triathlete on the comeback trail from a horrific accident prior to the 2016 70.3 World Championship.
Today’e episode is a Skype call I recently had with Australian professional Triathlete Jake Montgomery. Jake’s story is one that I am passionate about sharing. Prior to the 2016 70.3 Worlds Championships in Moolooloba on Australia’s Sunshine Coast, Jake was primed to have his breakout race, signaling his arrival on the world stage. Unfortunately he never made it to the startline and the course of his career and life was changed in an instant.   A car turned in front of him and Jake collided with the car at 40km, causing traumatic brain bleeds and a chance that he would never race again. What followed was a mental battle to make it back to the sport he loves. His journey has been rocky and thanks to finding love by chance, his renewed passion has him gunning for an appearance at this year’s 70.3 Worlds in Nice. In Jake’s own words, he has unfinished business.  InnerVoice was created to tell stories like Jake's, so I hope you enjoy his very human, very inspiring tale. I am extremely grateful that I get to meet and talk to the incredible people who make up the endurance sports industry, be it athletes, brands or you, the InnerVoice community.  ---------------------- It wouldn’t be possible without the support of brands like Ikor Labs, who have really stepped up to help by sponsoring this episode of the Audio experience.   iKOR is a natural hemp source of CBD that protects your body from stress, improves athletic recovery and helps you maintain a positive mental state. Episode 11 - Amity Rockwell, professional cyclist and member of the Easton Overland team
Today’s conversation on the InnerVoice Audio Experience is with Amity Rockwell, who’s journey into professional cycling is unique and in fact makes her a little uncomfortable. Growing up she was a runner, her mother was a pioneer in the Ultra Marathoner world and Amity followed in her footsteps. When Amity experienced some injuries she turned to cycling as a place to spend her abundance of energy, what she found was a community who helped her find her feet and she went on to win her first race.  Amity is now focused on gravel races and revels in the challenge of long, hard and hilly days. We talk about exciting events like the Californian Grasshopper Series, Steamboat Gravel and their vision for gender parity and compare the gear needs of runners and cyclists. She may not feel comfortable with the title of professional cyclist just yet, but Amity is part of a group of incredible women paving a journey for the next generation of athletes who love the outdoors and share the joy of suffering.  Speaking of joy, Amity is such a happy person, her energy was great during our conversation and you’ll here the enthusiasm in her voice!  --------------------- This episode is presented by iKOR Labs performance CBD.  iKOR is a natural hemp source of CBD that protects your body from stress, improves athletic recovery and helps you maintain a positive mental state.
