International Immersion

By International Immersion

A podcast that seeks to capture the combined experiences of people, culture, places, traveling, current events, living abroad, and everything that comes along with them. As someone who has traveled, lived, studied, done business, learned Chinese, and been in multicultural relationships abroad, it has given me extensive insights into these factors. The premise further hopes to create a platform to promote mutual learning and understanding while facilitating the sharing of ideas and experiences on a global scale.

  4. How has the coup affected you?
  5. How can the people of Myanmar resist?
  6. What can the outside world do to help?
  7. What type of government do you want?
  8. What is your dream bott for you and your county?

"The Man in the Arena" Analyzed

"The Man in the Arena" Analyzed

In this episode, we analyze and dissect some key points from the excerpt "The Man in the Arena" from former US president Theodore Roosevelt. There is a tremendous amount of influence one can gain in terms of daring and reaching out to learn and understand what is beyond you and to never let the naysayers hold you back or control you. Some of its key points are further broken down using some examples from my own life and in general to hammer some of these points home. Travel and going beyond what you know is a key element of manifesting this as well.

A Glimpse into Post Coup Myanmar

A Glimpse into Post Coup Myanmar

In this episode, I follow up with an individual I interviewed for a previous episode back in May about the situation in Myanmar. Nearly nine months on he goes into detail about what has happened to him and those around him as the violence and unrest have increased. Some of the content in this episode is graphic in nature as it contains content of a country going through civil unrest where atrocities are being committed.

Our guest on this episode implores anyone who listens, to spread awareness and help support the people of Myanmar through this dark time.

An Interview with the Founder of One Heart Worldwide: Arlene Samen

An Interview with the Founder of One Heart Worldwide: Arlene Samen

In this episode, I interview Arlene Samen the founder of One Heart Worldwide which mission is to provide assistance to pregnant women on a global basis. Through their efforts, they have made an impact in such places as Tibet, Nepal, and beyond.

Arlene began her career in Utah as a nurse practitioner at age 27, specializing in maternal and fetal medicine. In 1997, His Holiness the Dalai Lama asked Arlene to save the lives of mothers and their newborns in Tibet, where one in ten newborns were dying of preventable causes.

In 2004, she left her clinical practice to found One Heart Worldwide (OHW). While working in Tibet, Arlene developed the “Network of Safety” model, which brings life-saving care to expectant mothers and infants where the need is the greatest. In 2009, OHW extended the model to remote villages in Nepal and the Copper Canyon of Mexico. OHW has now arranged to construct and operate nearly 500 birthing centers in Nepal alone. Over the course of her work, Arlene has endured political uprisings, earthquakes, and the SARS epidemic in order to provide women safe, clean deliveries, touching the lives of hundreds of thousands of women to date.

Arlene has received many awards for her efforts; most recently she received the Global Thinkers Forum 2016 Award for Excellence in Women’s Empowerment. Arlene and her team are hard at work to bring OHW to scale in Nepal and globally. In 2020, OHW was selected as one of six global organizations for a case study by the Gates Foundation on the Network of Safety model. Arlene is now the Chief Visionary Officer with One Heart Worldwide.

An Interview with Michael Doud:

An Interview with Michael Doud:

In this episode, I interview Michael Doud: soldier, corporate worker, world traveler, spiritualist, and author. Starting from his childhood we walk through each phase of his life and learn about his experiences and what he has learned and what advice he gives to live a better life.

You can Follow Michaels Instagram page here: https://instagram.com/michael.doud.author?utm_medium=copy_link

                                                                                                     Authors Biography:

  • At the age of nineteen, I was thrown into the fire of the Vietnam War. Even before I’d set foot in that far-off land, our country’s mission had been drilled into me: Kill the enemy. Within days of being “in-country”, I had fulfilled the mission. By the first week, I could count these fatal encounters: The death of a man at the end of my gun barrel, the death of unseen others by my comrades, the death of a friend, and the death of my innocence.
  • Even as the flames of war burned around me, there were questions burning from within. I had grown up in a very stoic and pragmatic atmosphere, with parents who taught me to value self-sufficiency, a strong work ethic, good manners, and a very limited display of emotion. From the time I was quite young, I experienced an ongoing conflict between what my heart and body yearned to feel and how I had been taught to act. Now I had the added burden of another human being’s death on my conscience.
  • Returning from the war, I felt the memory of an earlier encounter re-awaken. As a teenager in the presence of an Indian guru, I’d experienced my own heart-opening to the interconnection of all beings. With this experience re-ignited in my soul, I embarked on a spiritual quest, seeking guidance from a range of different teachers and practices. However, through the demands of family and career, I was drawn back into the “outer” world where I allowed material desires to strengthen their grip on me, hoping they would fill the emptiness in my heart, mind, and spirit.
  • Finally, after a serious flirtation with death in my late thirties, I found the way back to my spiritual path, and this time I was unwavering. The Buddha said, “Seek out your own salvation” – and that’s what I did. Though I drew from the wisdom of many traditions I felt compelled to chart my own course. Step by step, it led me to a place that I had never been before, one that relieved me from the constant smoldering fire of doubt lying within and change my life forever. The story you are about to read is my attempt to share this journey with you…

The International & Historic Impact of the Early Muslim Conquests Pt 1

The International & Historic Impact of the Early Muslim Conquests Pt 1

In this first episode of two, we go in a slightly different direction and discuss the impact of the Rise of Islam and the Early Muslim Conquests. Specifically, this is broken down into three parts:

  • The world prior to Islam
  • How Islam rose in Arabia
  • The early Muslim conquests.

To aid in this analysis, they are discussed with a fellow historian who has studied this period extensively. Together, we break down these three parts and talk about the international significance and how this has affected the world to the modern-day. This will continue in Part 2 where further conquests are discussed. Part 2 will discuss the next wave of conquests and their long-term effects. A shout out to the Kings and Generals Youtube Channel and the Great Courses Plus for sources for this episode.
