In this week's episode we take a look at an article in education week entitled how online teaching needs to improve even after the pandemic. In this episode I read some of the article and then give my thoughts about the conclusions I can make after reading it. I know that when I first read the article title it made me mad. I felt like I was doing as much as I could with virtual teaching. However, much like reading directions for students after I read the article I made a lot of connections that I wouldn't have made without reading it. It's one of those cases where the headline grabs you and the content makes you motivated. Below is the cited information from both the article and the research done within the article. As well as the first of our markers and minions sponsor links! Don't forget to leave a review, follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. season 2 episodes will drop every Wednesday at 8 a.m.

Putting Yourself First and Other Struggles of Educators
About Michelle .....
I am a passionate mental health advocate. I would love the opportunity to forward the mental health conversation with you because I have personally been impacted by mental illness. I have the “trifecta” of mental health experiences.
1) I grew up loving and caring for my bipolar mother.
2) I helped build the largest mental health employee resource group at a fortune 500 company.
3) I experienced depression due to a life event reminding me that nobody is immune to mental illness at any given point in their life.
My life’s purpose is to be a massive contribution in eliminating the mental health stigma and creating more compassion. I am out to use my experiences to elevate the conversation and empower others to become conduits for real change in the workplace and in the community. I am committed to causing more open conversations and empowering people and companies to cause more compassionate environments for people living with invisible disabilities. I am on a mission to cause cultures of compassion at work, in community, and in our classrooms so that everyone can be their full authentic selves and thrive in compassionate inclusive cultures!
Why?
Mental illness is a topic that desperately needs more attention given the statistics of 1 in 5 Americans suffering annually from a mental health condition like anxiety or depression and that 8 of 10 Americans are not seeking treatment. My book Breaking Into My Life was written to help myself—along with the rest of us—better understand the world of mental illness. I hope my story of perseverance and triumph helps challenge and transform the “suffer in silence” dynamic, and makes mental illness more understood, treated and accepted.
And… Mental disorders are the single most expensive category of health costs for many employers across all industries. $17 billion USD is lost annually in productivity due to unaddressed mental health concerns. I am committed to causing change in the workplace where we spend so many hours of our lives and proactively shaping how our youth relate to brain health.
