Ethical Transformation Coaching and Developing Self-Trust
Rosa Carson is a transformation coach working with people who feel stuck or unfulfilled to connect with their natural gifts and create a life where they can thrive.
Show Notes:
- I know you have your coaching program that includes a German word [funktionslust] for which we don’t have a word in English. Could you speak to what the word is, what it means, and how you came to include it in your name for your program?
- What does that pleasure feel like for you when you do find your purpose?
- What did it feel like for you to make the transition into coaching out of having a stable paycheck and where you were in your relationship with the flow of the universe as you were making that choice?
- Conversation on ways of knowing and how some people's thinking has become so rigid in their understanding of truth that it has become a weapon…
- What are the keys to building up that self trust? How do you know? What does it look like when you are trusting yourself and when you’re not?
- For people who are curious about coaching, have never had a coach before, how would you explain the idea to someone who was completely lost but maybe had a sense that this was something for them?
- Please share any offerings and how people can reach you.

Espiritismo and Anti-capitalism with Kaitlyn from Spirit Garden Tarot
In this special episode, Kaitlyn Graña (they/them) from Spirit Garden Tarot talks to us about their understanding of and practice of Espiritismo, including how living in communion with spirit means living in communion with all of creation. They share how to truly be in communion with creation, we must be anti-capitalist and anti-racist. Kaitlyn encourages us to develop our relationship with our spiritual court to help us to understand our role in caring for creation. They also share about the importance of finding mentors as we learn to trust and cultivate our own connection to our guides, gods, guardians and ancestors. After this conversation, it is clear that our spirit team has our back in doing the good work of fighting white supremacy, racist capitalism and learning to share resources, while acknowledging the role we may be playing in others’ oppression. Our well ancestors and spirits will hold us accountable with love. "The more time we spend at the altar, the more we realize that as we ask for blessings for ourselves, we must also ask that it flows over into our community and those we care about...this is an altruistic practice."
Show Notes:
- Why do you say that living in communion with spirit means living in communion with creation?
- How would you define Espiritismo? (A brief history lesson)
- Were you socialized with any particular religion as a kid and how did you find your way on this path of Espiritismo?
- For people who are going through spiritual awakenings and who feel overwhelmed because they feel like they’ve lost control, what advice can you offer?

On Healing, the Wellness Industry, and Gender
In this episode, Samara and Lali discuss our perspectives on whether the wellness industry depends on the gender binary, on why many wellness offerings are so gendered, and our personal journeys with healing and wellness as nonbinary practitioners. We both had been wanting to do an episode where we could share our opinions rather than inviting a guest speaker, so we decided to share more about how gender has been intersecting with our personal and professional wellness journeys. Samara discusses how in the spiritual wellness world, even divine energies are gendered, as are elements, planets, clients and services for no good reason. Lali talks about how, as a child, physical wellness appeared to be the only relevant wellness because of the social expectations on people AFAB to meet physical beauty standards. We both dive further into how this commodified version of healing for a specific physical outcome feels like the reason everything is so unnecessarily gendered and counterproductive for the kind of wellness we are trying to achieve for our physical, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing. As always, we hope you enjoy!

The Power of Art and Play for Liberation with Emily Prentice
We interviewed Emily Prentice (she/her)(IG @waywarddaughter.space) who is an artist and illustrator living in Appalachia. She believes in radical, non-linear arts education as a path towards liberation and wants to live in a world where art is truly for all people. Emily teaches creative play as a tool for resistance work. Emily broke down the false dichotomy our capitalist culture creates between work and play, and between play and childhood. She also opens up about the mental health challenges that catalyzed Emily's creative expression and her work in educating others about the power of art and play. She talks about how art, play, creativity, and spirituality are all intertwined for her at this point and made a fantastic argument for how creating a microcosm of your most radical daydreams is both art and social justice work.
1. How does play help us unlearn capitalism and productivity culture?
2. Have you always felt comfortable choosing play?
3. What is the connection you see between play, creativity, and spirituality?
4. How did you know this would be the thing you share with others?
5. What role does art play in social justice?
6. What advice would you give to anyone who feels they might be too old or mature to play or that it’s not going to help them?

Magic and Shadow Work in Political Activism with Serita Fontanesi
In today’s episode, we talk to Serita Fontanesi (@seritafonta) about her mystical practices, which include reading tarot and the akashic records among others, in addition to her 9-5 work as the Executive Director of Emerge Texas -- an organization that recruits, trains, and empowers democratic women to run for office and win! With her delightful humor, Serita tells us about the darker moments in her past that led to her healing through a craniosacral session and akashic records reading and initiated her mystical practice. She also shares how the feelings that these mystical practices bring is the same as those brought by her activist work. Serita then blesses us with her understanding of shadow work as an exploration of the subconscious. She validates and affirms us and shares her personal shadow work practices.
- How did you start working on the mystical practice?
- I notice this trend of “this really helped me and so now I’m going to learn how to do it so hopefully it helps others.” Do you notice that trend in other aspects of your life?
- How do you integrate magic into your activism?
- You say The same feeling you get reading tarot is the feeling I get when you get to help someone get elected to school board. What is that feeling?
- What does shadow work mean to you? How does it relate to everything you’re talking about?
- What does your shadow work practice look like?

Non-linear Healing, Identity, and Spiritual Activism with Gray Matters
In this episode, we talk to Rikki and Sharmeen from Gray Matters (@graymatterstheblog) about our nonlinear processes of healing, identity formation, and acting in allyship. In our white supremacist, colonial, capitalist society, we are often pushed to find the quick fix to our struggles and be results-oriented, but healing and self-care do not have finish lines. We also talk about how this results-oriented mentality has transferred into dominant notions of what activism means, and the surge in what Gray Matters calls “activism for clout” (i.e. posting Black squares and selling/buying rainbow flags) which is performative and not actually helping those it claims to help. We also get into what spiritual activism is and how it fundamentally juxtaposes “activism for clout” by starting with cultivating the inner world and internalized systems of oppression.

Money for Joy
In this episode, we discuss how we are learning to spend money on the things that bring us pleasure by releasing the guilt and shame that have prevented us from finding genuine joy in material pleasures in the past. We are investing in ourselves and our futures while trusting the universe will have our back and provide the resources necessary for our joy.
Show notes:
- Have you seen a change in your way of thinking about whether you want to buy something? (2:49)
- I think the way that society sets us up it's kind of like we don't get to make our own choices about how we spend our money because we're so busy trying to avoid shame. (8:29)
- I guess, I want to talk also to the audience who's like okay that sounds good, but like I don't have money to spend on the things that bring me joy like cuz I remember being there. (10:41)
- How did you go from that mindset [of I can’t run out of money because I have no support] to like I’m okay with spending money on starting a business, even though I don't know exactly how much it's going to cost or when I’m going to be getting this money back and I still can't depend on my parents (that's still not safe)? (16:27)
- At this point, I guess, I just really feel like if this is something i'm supposed to be doing, then the resources will come. (22:11)

In this episode, Lali and Samara interview Stephanie (@youaretarot) and Lindsay (@radiantunknown) to discuss their beautiful personal and anti-oppressive perspective on the tarot, as well as their creative process of creating The Imperfect Tarot deck (@theimperfecttarot) together.
Show Notes:
- How did you two meet each other? (6:53)
- How did the Tarot for Healing Justice course help you expand your perspectives on the tarot? (14:50)
- “I want to expand the next question because we talked about this idea of like a social social justice lens but then a socially just lens as well and I'm wondering how you're feeling these lenses incorporating into the deck process.” (23:34)
- “I was just gonna ask if you could share more about what that creative process is, if you're like meeting with each other, having conversations about each card…” (26:21)
- “Okay, so we have a question about how creating the deck has helped expand your perspective on the tarot” (44:21)
- “I want to learn more about your whole journey with tarot, like when did you start using cards? How has that unfolded? Did you... I don't know if you imagined yourself making a deck but like, how did this whole thing kind of unfold, from the beginning?” (50:11)

- How did we find and start breathwork? (8:15 & 9:29)
- Ava’s Academy of Breath (11:25)
- How has your relationship with breathwork changed as your self-healing has happened? (19:32)

2021 Intentions and Our Relationships to Goal-Setting
In this episode, Samara and Lali discuss their intentions for 2021, including financial goals to move into their own place, have a six-figure year, a better relationship with weed, and unshakable self-trust. They also discuss how traditional SMART goals or goals that rely on fear, guilt, and/or shame tend to not be sustainable, and how to better measure progress to give themselves the best chance at making sustainable change in their lives.

Show Notes
- Lali “I think one of my biggest goals for 2021 is to move out and get our own place” (3:51)
- Samara: “So this feels crazy and for a long time, I was like not letting myself want this, but I really want to have a six figure year in my business.” (4:44)
- Lali: “Another goal I have is just feeling my feelings... Usually my go-to is to smoke weed and I'm realizing that has been helpful in the past, but I don't think it's a solution.” (5:18)
- Samara: “Gradually, I came back around to like setting a goal in a way that felt safe and supportive and exciting rather than putting up expectations for myself, and if I don't meet them, that means something bad about me.” (16:01)
- Samara: “At this point, I would say, I am in the process of figuring out which goals are authentic to me because, for me, having a goal so that I can tell people I've achieved the goal, is not it.” (19:23)

Artists, Intuitives, and Healers Getting Paid with Emily Schumann

Show notes
1. Lali: “I'm wondering if you would be able to tell us about what caused you to transition from being a professor to being this multifaceted creatrix.” (6:44)
2. Emily: “Yeah, that's why when you're playing when you're making your goals when you're designing your life when you're choosing what you create in the world, you have to take out the security factor because that's what she's worried about. She's saying I can't make art because I'm telling myself that I need security and I don't believe that making art can give me that, you know, like, and so I'm stuck in the like time for money kind of mentality.” (29:21)
3. Emily: “There’s the philanthropic tendency to want to share it. I want everyone to know this! But so that this is sustainable for me, so that I can keep doing this, so that I can pay back the tradition that a lot of my teachings come from, I have to ask for an exchange in order to do that.” (58:14)
4. Emily: “You have to go through a process of learning what your voice feels like and sounds like to you, testing your voice in the world, letting the messages come to you, taking action on them, seeing which work, which don’t work, figuring that voice out from the voice of your anxiety…” (64:33)
5. Emily: “I noticed that I would achieve my goals and there wasn’t even a pause. There was literally just like a hunger for the next goal. (68:50) ...And then I was like, oh my god, I feel so good all the time. Does it matter if I get the goal?” (69:59)

1. Lex: “Folk magic is this intertwining of the magic of an individual with the magic of the land on which they live, and the magic of their sort of context, right, like their ancestors both literal blood ancestors and also ancestors of affinity and identity.” (05:16)
2. Lex: “From my perspective, the place where the physical realm and our ability to interact with the non-physical realm intersect is like where we should be working. Yeah, where we are working within that realm, where we have agency, where we can choose, like, that's how we take action, make change, and make magic as physical beings.” (12:49)
3. Lex: “As I have thought more about my gender, I don't really personally understand myself to have one, and so what I do with the [Tarot] court cards is I look at them as their elemental aspects. (23:16)
4. Lex: “Something that's like given me a lot of trouble in tarot in general is the hierarchy and until this summer I was still calling the major arcana the major arcana and the minor arcana the minor arcana, even though I hated it.” (28:54)
5. Lex: “I was thinking about how Saturn is like these external like non binary transgender, gender fluid right these categories that we use to present ourselves to the external world, and then Jupiter as this like sort of expansive joyful, but not so easily described bubble way of like understanding ourselves. And so, like, them coming together in Aquarius as being like how we interface the self to the collective.” (34:40)

1. Lali: “Cause you definitely feel like you're part of the family at that point, like they let you in on the inside jokes, like you're part of a little community, and I think I want that for this podcast too.” (20:44)
2. Lali: “I think we want to prioritize healing, like healing yourself. I think that's the point of the podcast. And I think it's trying to deconstruct what healing is, um, to not necessarily, uh, follow any prescription for what it should look like or what progress looks like, but to really trust yourself in knowing what's the best way to take care of yourself.” (22:10)
3. Samara: “Wellness as a concept and as something that everyone can have access to, and that everyone is on an individual journey with like the pursuit of being well is something that I really wanted to explore in this podcast, like what wellness is. And we talk about, you know, relating to our bodies, relating to our identities and then also being well within the oppressive systems that our world has set up to make us not well and to make us feel like we can't be well. (24:57)
4. Samara: “It's, it's kind of like trusting my body and saying like, my body knows what I have going on and my body wants to support me instead of fighting against it. And that's how I see intuitive wellness playing out in my life. The way that I run my business is through the framework of intuitive wellness.” (29:32)
5. Samara: “Why is this the right place for people who believe healing themselves, activism and how the fact is healing yourself even become activism? What does that even mean?” (36:33)
