I love saying YES to my kids, so I want to be able to say yes to them as much as I can. Creating a house full of toys that they can play with, videos they can watch, and the food they can eat, are healthy ways to control the environment around them in a kid-friendly way. This creates more peace in our home and lessens how many times a day I have to say no. We can't control our kids, but let's talk about what we can control.
Let's talk about Sensory Regulating Behaviors, how to identify them and how to respond differently than we would to aggressive behaviors. Let's talk about how can we can tell the difference between those aggressive and Sensory seeking behaviors! It could make all the difference.
Does it seem like your child just can't find the right words? You want them to tell you how they feel or why they're throwing a tantrum, but all they give you in return is a growl and a punch? Maybe this child needs a water balloon to throw at a fence to calm down? Maybe hand them a piece of paper and marker, saying, "show me how mad you are on this paper".
