It's Called Self-Care, Honey

By Tabby Delorme

A podcast about mental health, I know it’s only the 3rd one you’ve seen today. But here, myself (Tabby Delorme), my friends, and my peers will be open and honest about our mental health and how hard it is to be a young adult while struggling mentally. I’ve tried to create an open forum where we will talk about our experiences with mental health, how we cope, where we look to for help, and how to find it.

*myself nor any of my peers are professionals, we do not advise anything medically and if you need guidance or help seeking a trained professional I can help.

“Eating Disorder: A-Typical Anorexia”

“Eating Disorder: A-Typical Anorexia”

In this episode I talked with a new friend, Charley Ann, who is recovering from a very restrictive eating disorder. However, in this episode explains that her mental health will not define her (I love that). A-Typical Anorexia is classified as someone who has a restrictive diet but is not considered a ‘unhealthy weight’ because ED is based off the BMI scale. Eating disorders affect over 30 million people in the US and has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. It should be taken seriously and if you feel that you have an eating disorder or you know someone that might you should talk to someone that you trust. Charley is very open and vulnerable with us about her journey and how far she has come and I'm so happy people get to hear her story, whether you can relate personally or know someone who could. Although she is on the road to recovery she shares with us that shes passionate about art as well and enjoys making prints, bags, hair-ties, and more! Since it is Mental Health Awareness Month his Charley is donating a portion of all her art proceeds will go to "NEDA: National Eating Disorder Association" which provides information about ED and helps tackle it as well.

** I could not link Charley's art page, however her username is "Charleyanann" on instagram. Please go take a look at her amazing art and follow her!

"Depersonalization/Dissociation"

"Depersonalization/Dissociation"

In this episode I will be talking to one of my oldest friends, Elaina Robinson, about her more recent mental illness diagnosis. Depersonalization disorder is a condition in which the brain breaks down your awareness and consciousness causing you to have an altered perception of your reality. The most common system is an "out of body experience" where the person feels as though they are watching themselves from outside their body. Less than 2% of the population has been diagnosed with this mental illness. It is rarely talked about in the media so we're lucky to have her on the show and share her personal experiences with mental illness.

"Depression"

In this episode I talk about my personal struggles with depression, answer a few audience questions, and share some advice when it comes to our mental health. Suicide will kill 13 out of every 100,000 people with depression having a large factor on that number. Depression is serious and needs to be talked about.
