Stuff and other things too

By Shane Koenig & Jeff Rich

This episode has been published and can be heard everywhere your podcast is available.
There's only so much to be said about sports, and not everyone cares as much as we do. So, we're here to speak casually on stuff, some will relate to sports, but there's movies, the daily grind, and other things out there in the world. We'll talk about it here, on the newly titled "Stuff and other things too" Show, known on the show as The Podcast. Sports Overnight America Alumni Jen, Jeff, and Shane diversify the conversation beyond the field of play and the realm of sports.

There's only so much to be said about sports, and not everyone cares as much as we do. We'll talk about it here, on the newly titled "Stuff and other things too" Show, known on the show as The Podcast.  Sports Overnight America Alumni Jen, Jeff, and Shane diversify the conversation beyond the field of play and the realm of sports. This episode we give introduce ourselves, give Shane his Chiefs Super Bowl victory lap, discuss the disaster in Ohio, and offer thoughts on Cocaine Bear, prior our first of what we're sure will be many viewings.

Come for the Cocaine Bear, stay for Jeff's brief soccer take.

Blood Not Thicker Than Blue Chip

Blood Not Thicker Than Blue Chip

On this Not Suitable For Utah podcast, Coach K has almost reached the finish line in an outstanding career, but has he now lived long enough to become the villain. Our obligation to Utah was not at all forced, as resident Jazz fan Shane Koenig brought the knowledge on his favorite team's start. We look ahead to Week 11 in the NFL, with good things to say about the Patriots quarterback--you'd rather we took it in that direction than to just let Jeff bitch about the Browns. It's fair to say we're skeptical, as always, on the College Football polls. Jeff says goodbye to the Indians name and encourages his fellow fans not to let a cosmetic change drown their fandom.

Mutiny, Misogyny, and Messing With The Wrong Guy

Mutiny, Misogyny, and Messing With The Wrong Guy

Shane is back from Hawaii, and Jeff has been chomping on the bit to chop it up about Odell Beckham Jr.'s departure from the Cleveland Browns. Meanwhile in Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes doesn't look so invincible right now. We discuss the shame of Henry Ruggs III's DUI/homicide, and the character of Derek Carr to stare the status quo in the eye and going against the grain to love and support his teammate. We're in wait and see mode with the Robert Sarver situation in Phoenix. We check in on the landscape in college sports, and unintentionally work two Richard Pryor references into this one.

Who We Don't Want to Win

Who We Don't Want to Win

The duo of Shane Koenig and Jeff Rich are back, and this time with quite a bit of time given to the Major League Baseball playoffs. It's anyone but the Astros, because we don't like cheaters. It's anyone else, but the Dodgers, because Jeff doesn't like the Dodgers. Whoa, does that mean we're rooting for the Red Sox? Of course not. Shane provides insight on the upcoming NBA season, including this year's draft class and the options an 18 or 19 year-old prospect has. Jeff prepares for life without Baker Mayfield, BYU tries to avoid a third straight loss, and Shane thinks Ohio State might find their way back into the College Football Playoff.

No Such Thing as Halfway Nets

No Such Thing as Halfway Nets

It seems all roads in Utah College Football lead to Boise State. This team it was BYU that had its College Football playoff dreams crushed by the Broncos, and the game wasn't even on blue turf. Kyrie Irving cannot enter a gym in New York due to his vaccination status, which means no home games in Brooklyn. The Nets say it means no basketball for Kyrie Irving--the ball is in Irving's court, but the organization appears prepared to play this season without his services. Between Baker Mayfield not being a franchise quarterback and Patrick Mahomes not being the best quarterback in the NFL, we're probably better off without the daytime talking heads. Jon Gruden won't be talking to players or a television audience again anytime soon, if ever. We look ahead to games of interest in Week 6 in the NFL and the National Hockey League is under way.

The Mini-Winnie Dream

The Mini-Winnie Dream

Somehow, we got into railing on ESPN from the jump, but we got to the sports we talk about eventually. The Cardinals look good, but only as good as Chandler Jones makes them.  We're both non-plussed by our NFL teams, and Shane is devastated to learn his Chiefs would not only be out on Stephon Gilmore, but out on Jaylon Smith as well. The tailgate is better with a gas-powered blender, and Shane dreams to retire to a life of tailgating across SEC Country in a Mini-Winnie.

The Stifle Tower and The Stifling Manager

The Stifle Tower and The Stifling Manager

We had this big thing planned for the previously unbeaten Aggies of Utah State, but Boise State happened. The highlight of Jazz media day was the 3-point contest between Dwyane Wade and Rudy Goebert--winner, The Stifle Tower. Shane details the Chiefs deficiencies and the similar shortcomings of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Shane describes Bill Belichick as stifling. How do this year's Lakers compare to Tom Brady's Tampa Bay team, and will Kyrie Irving hold out over vaccine restrictions in New York?

We Have the Angles

We Have the Angles

At least one of us didn't think there would be all that much Utah content that was relevant enough to speak of, and we're struggling to see a loss for BYU before their season finale at USC. The NBA is looking to cut down on offensive players manipulating fouls against the defenders, and quite frankly, that's fantastic. The Chiefs pick up their first loss and Jeff is almost as unhappy about it as Shane. From passing on the hardwood, to rushing the passer or throwing a pitch, it's all about the angles. In the era of MySpace, that was a bad thing.

Not Here for a Bad Time

Not Here for a Bad Time

First off, we’re not just here to crap on Utah, but we will poke and jab a little bit. One half of our duo, Shane Koenig, is an unapologetic Jazz fan, so we give you Mandatory Jazz, touching on the off-season additions of Hassan Whiteside and Rudy Gay. This year’s Holy War takes place in Provo, how did Weber State land Damian Lillard, Oregon travels to Columbus for a noon kickoff on Saturday, and an in-depth look at Browns at Chiefs in Week 1 of the NFL season. This is our pilot episode.
