Was Jesus based on the Roman deity, Mithras? Mithraism, although a contemporary religion of Christianity, was based on the earlier Zoroastrian Mithra and the even earlier Hindu Mitra. In none of these incarnations do we find a reason to suspect that Jesus was based on this popular god.
