Reflections on Learning - UDL and ADA Compliance

A brief wrap-up of my takeaways from learning about Universal Design for Learning and ADA Compliance. 

Learning more about ADA Compliance for online learning was a real eye-opener for me.    Listen to hear more about my plan to incorporate my new understandings into my future designs.

In this episode, I think about my experiences with assistive technology and teaching, and how it has shaped my practice as a teacher, as well as beliefs regarding access as a basic human right. 

For this episode, consider HOW students will communicate what they have learned using the action and expression principle of UDL. 

Learn about representation and how, not only various tools can be used to represent information, but the same media can be used to represent different content.   

This week I reflect on the process of designing lessons to engage audiences.

Consider a time when a lesson plan just failed, because it failed to anticipate the broad needs of your learners.  This week, we will discuss how UDL can help you plan for inclusive learning environments that allow ALL learners to participate, and also some thoughts about accessibility of resources to support inclusive populations.

This week, I reflect on how acknowledging learning differences and inclusion maybe isn't traditional, but it is imperative to becoming an effective instructional designer.

Welcome to the Reflections on Learning podcast.  Bear with me as I attempt to overcome my struggle with public speaking.  The first few episodes may be a bit rough, but the plan is to not only use this podcast as a way to reflect on my learning about UDL and ADA compliance, but to become a more effective and engaging speaker (goals!).    In this episode, I share a little bit about what stands out to me when thinking about UDL and ADA and what I have learned so far.  I also reflect on how this information relates to me professionally and some questions still remaining for me.
