Episode #16: Learning To Be

Episode #16: Learning To Be

This week, Joe talks with Pastor Juanita Campbell Rasmus about her new book “Learning To Be” which releases today, September 15, 2020. In this episode, get to know Pastor Juanita and her inspiring journey as she encourages all of us to Learn To Be!

Special Notes from Author:

A. How is this book connected to faith?
In the forward of Learning To Be, Tina Knowles Lawson writes, I’ve seen her journey from the self-professed “good girl” to a leader who wholeheartedly seeks God with a level of authenticity, transparency, and grace that is unmatched. And in this book, she inspires us to do the same.”
B. Why did you feel compelled to write this now?
Covid19 is not only a physical pandemic but the unspoken pandemic yet to be addressed in light of Covid-19 is the mental health crisis in the making. Mental Health is still too often the taboo conversation in families and faith communities. Those who suffer from psychiatric mental health symptoms are often left to suffer in silence and alone. I have written Learning To Be as a means of tearing down the walls of alienation and breaking our silence and shining light on the ways that mental health can invite us into transformation and resurrection.
C. Why would you recommend someone pick it up?
Rarely do we have an opportunity to see through the eyes and intimate experiences of a person diagnosed with a mental health challenge. Here the reader is in essence a fly on the wall so to speak. If you are interested in some insights and long to increase your capacity for compassion this is the book for you. We are all walking a fine line between sanity and diagnosis.

Episode #11: Patience Along The Journey Leads To You Purpose

Episode #11: Patience Along The Journey Leads To You Purpose

In this episode, we discuss the formula of creating and receiving new opportunities with Ms. Angelica Guiao. As of this interview, Angelica is an Assistant Manager and Latin@Bay Area Lead at Facebook, and she talks about success not being the straight and narrow.

She describes her love for sports, and the power sports has in bringing communities and families together. This influences her to pursue and earn her MBA in Sports Business Management, where she details her time working in the professional sports industry for teams like the Oakland Raiders and San Jose Sharks, just to name a few. Her secret to successs...she puts it like this: "I strongly believe if you can connect with people, whether it be a CEO of company, whether it's a child, whether it's a poor person or whether it's a rich person, if you can meet people as people, that will take you so far and people will do things and go out of their way to support you if they feel seen." Angelica has lived by that in her professional career and from it she has created several opportunities for herself.

And so we had to ask: What are the top 5 things people should know and do when entering the workforce, or looking to make a transition in their career? Here is her list: 1) Reach out to people and seek out knowledge and wisdom. 2) There are great opportunities at small companies and not always your top big name companies. 3) Drop your ego at the door. 4) Put in the work. 5) Stay patient along the journey.  It was Number 5 that landed Angelica large recognition at Facebook and even helped her develop her purpose. How crazy is that. Listen and discover how hosting a work-based conference steered her in the direction of her purpose: becoming a life coach. Watch to the end and see how she unveils her true calling as a life coach as she motivates, encourages, and inspires.
