From Tradition School to Digital Platforms: Interview with Sharmeka McClintock

From Tradition School to Digital Platforms: Interview with Sharmeka McClintock

Sharmeka McClintock, M.Ed is a military wife, mother of two amazing boys, and an Early Childhood Educator. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Prairie View A&M University; and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction- with a focus on Early Childhood Education, from Concordia University-Portland. Her classroom experience ranges from teaching seventh grade science at a public-school; to teaching preschool in various daycare centers; teaching kindergarten in a charter school with an accelerated curriculum; to now teaching pre-kindergarten in a city run, innovative school called Pre -K 4 SA. When she reflects on her privilege to teach children in different states, and even in another country, it becomes clear that her journey as a military spouse and as a teacher, which both began in 2009, are undeniably linked. Each time she taught in a new school setting, with a different age-group, or in a novel location- it contributed to the teacher she is today: resilient, determined, and appreciative of diversity and differences.

She was incredibly gracious and we connected on many of the challenges educators have on the journey of educating students in the midst of a pandemic.

From Traditional School to Digital Platforms: Special Guest Kristina Muñoz, M.ED

I spent time with Kristina Munoz a K-5 Advanced Academic Programs and Services Resource Teacher (AAPS-RT) in Italy to learn of her experiences shifting from the traditional school setting to an online platform. Her duties include collaboration with a variety of administrators, instructional support specialists, teachers and parents to provide appropriate learning tasks and social-emotional support for students. Her school is currently closed due to a mandatory school closure, so she is navigating the world of online learning using tools such as Seesaw, Google Classrooms, and Flipgrid. She is also a mother learning how to balance the responsibilities of both roles as a parent and professional educator. Though there are a few technical difficulties there is so much value in what is shared in this episode!
