Damian Keyes - Social Media, Building an Audience and the Future of the Music Industry!

JUMP Music Podcast Season 2 – EP15 with Damian Keyes
@damiankeyes

Damian Keyes is an award-winning Entrepreneur, Educator, Music Industry & Social Media Specialist, Musician, Author, YouTuber… And Jedi.

When it comes to music education and mentoring musicians to strategise their career, Damian has proven he is the best in the world. At 23, Damian founded and built The British Institute of Modern Music (BIMM - now known as BIMM Institute), currently valued at over $250m, and they are the largest set of music colleges in the world. Artists that studied at BIMM under Damian include George Ezra, The Kooks and James Bay.  In addition to this, Damian has worked as a professional bass player internationally, alongside artists such as Eric Clapton, Alanis Morissette, The Who and Bob Dylan. After building BIMM, Damian went on to successfully build and invest in several other businesses, including a management company for musicians (DK Music Management) and a live agency (Warble Entertainment).

The constant for Damian has always been educating & advising musicians throughout all stages of their career, whilst being at the forefront of navigating changes in the music industry. Damian has built an online community of over 200k musicians online, through YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. Damian has also released two Amazon best-selling books for musicians, The Rule Breakers Guide to Social Media & Stop Selling Music: Career Changing Lessons for Musicians.

Damian is inundated with messages every day from musicians wanting his expertise & guidance for their career. He realised that he wasn’t able to keep up with the demand through YouTube & Instagram alone, so wanted to establish a community where musicians can have more access to him & his training. So in 2020 he set up DKMBA, where members have access to courses teaching them everything they'd need to know about the music industry from social media, to platforms, to releasing their music. Hosting weekly live sessions and being directly involved with the community means he can work closely with musicians and help them achieve the successes they'd only dreamt about!'

JUMP Music Initiative Podcast EP15 2020 with Ann Vriend

Ann Vriend - AV (Ann Vriend) is known most for her virtuosic, soaringly powerful vocals, and not far behind that for her multi award-winning abilities as a songwriter -- and she ain’t too bad at the piano, either. She has been delivering her unique brand of old-school, inner-city soul to audiences around Europe, Oceana, Asia, and North America throughout her under-the-radar but consistently award-winning, critically acclaimed career.

A “musician’s musician” and equally compelling solo as with a full band AV has sold more than 20,000 albums off the stage, independently, and can somehow turn even the most difficult rooms to her attention, which she attributes from having cut her teeth playing bars — solo, and with exclusively original music— in small towns in Alberta, Canada.

JUMP Music Initiative Podcast EP14 2020 with Chad Schroter-Gillespie

Chad Schroter-Gillespie

Chad is probably the most humble person you'll ever meet but don't be deceived, his talent is immeasurable. He has a bachelor’s degree in Media Studies and Video production. Oh yeah did I mention he is also an award-winning documentary filmmaker!

Chad is driven by his passion to tell interesting and impactful stories. Whether he is doing it through songwriting (yes, he's also a musician) or video/audio work, his ability to capture emotion and convey a message is uncanny.

As a Digital Marketing Specialist for the National Music Centre - Studio Bell, he spends his time interviewing Canada's music legends and Grammy award winners - not a bad gig!

In his spare time Chad enjoys, crazy long bike rides...like literally around the entire city, eating ice cream, laughing with friends and family, playing guitar, and singing in the Jack Lumber Band.

JUMP Music Podcast EP#13 with Paul Toth

JUMP Music Initiative Podcast EP13 2020 with Paul Toth

Paul's background starts in television, working at CTV Calgary for many years. While this was fun, he had always wanted to have his own business. Deciding to leave the safety of a regular gig, he struck out on his own with what is now known as Advance Entertainment, a video production company. His credits include major corporations like ENMAX, TC Energy, & Safeway but much of his work was in entertainment, getting to work with big names like William Shatner, and on big projects like the 18 month run of RAIN, A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway in New York. Most recently working on the musicals by Queen “We Will Rock You” & Foreigner “Juke Box Hero”.

As a musician, Paul has played in a number of bands with local successes including 4 top 10 college radio songs in the 80’s (Even the Unfair) and, releasing a 5 song CD that is now considered a rare CD (Switch: First Impression) which sells for over $50US to collectors all over the world. Paul continues to play music and gigs regularly, and he is also working on recording an album. This musical passion has spread to his children which lead them & him to the School of Rock Calgary South in Douglasdale.
