Reinforcing Good Cultural Behavior

Trusting the Process
Last fall, I was planting the seeds for this spring, and now it's time to harvest. I began coaching youth basketball almost immediately since I got here, and I love it. It's a space where I thrive as a leader and enjoy.
Fast forward to this week, I put in an application and had an interview to be the Frosh/Sophomore Boys Basketball Head Coach for an elite public school. I feel great about my chances, and of course, I will update y'all if it goes through.
In addition, since I have been building trust and showing my skills as a youth basketball coach, I am now receiving more responsibilities. I am currently working on a partnership to develop a training program for Royal Basketball coaches to become transformational coaches.

Focusing On What YOU Control
Everything in our life is under our control. Outcomes, the weather, and what happens to us in bumper-to-bumper traffic! Wrong. This week has been a challenge for me for a couple of reasons.
First, my car was rear-ended, which literally threw a wrench into my week. Second, I am receiving more responsibilities with my promotion and a new gig I'm starting. My mind has a bit all over the place.
Thinking about how I can be a better coach, and what will happen with my car? I'm sure you can relate to the experiences going on in your life.

Leading With Compassion
Compassion is a trendy word right now, but what does it mean? To me, compassion is an action showing genuine care and respect towards another human being or animal.
The dictionary definition is a feeling of wanting to help someone sick, hungry, or in trouble. But to me, we can be compassionate to humans who have a wide array of experiences. As leaders, we have to genuinely care for each individual on our teams.
We need to take the time to get to know why each person ticks.
I'd love to connect with you. Email me if you have any thoughts on impacting with compassion or any questions about knowing your impact.

The Key Ingredients for this Year’s Super Bowl Teams

Consistency is Key
James Clear, the author of #1 bestselling book Atomic Habits, talks about the importance of showing up on days when we don't feel like it. It's actually more important to show up when we don't want to have and have an awful workout than crushing the workouts when we feel like it.
The more we practice or perform an activity, the more it becomes a part of our identity. When consistent activities, actions, or energy become a part of our identity, we take ownership.
When we take ownership, we become responsible for impacting others.

Human Connection
In 2022, I am reaching back out to old friends, spending time with loved ones, and putting in the effort to create new connections. How will you value human connection today, tomorrow, and the rest of the year? *The book Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World by Vivek H. Murthy, MD, inspired this episode.

Being True to Ourselves
Have you ever heard the phrase, "just be yourself?" I'd be willing to put my life savings on the line, saying you have. So what does it actually mean to be ourselves? It's going to look unique for each of us. Being true to myself will most certainly look different from being true to yourself. In a world where people, including myself, tell others what to do and how to live their lives, it can confuse what actually brings us joy.

Impact Where Your Feet Are
Do you ever get lost in thinking about your impact on the future? I know I can. Recently, I've been going down the rabbit hole of what teams will I coach in the future? High school? College?
Maybe I should coach here or there. Now, don't get me wrong, I believe we should spend time being intentional with the future we are creating. Keyword, creating. How do we create our futures? By impacting where our feet are.

Being Grateful For Our Gardens
Be grateful for your garden, or in the great words of J Cole, "love yourz."
Yesterday, I began overthinking in between subbing and my coaching job. "Should I find more consistency in my life? Is this the most optimal way to design my life?" I went down a rabbit hole, continuing to ask questions like these to myself. In this episode, I break down how and why we should be grateful for our own gardens.

My College Graduate Journey
Last year I began my journey as an adult. Graduating in the thick of a pandemic, at the height of political toxicity, and an uncertain world. Thoughts were constantly swirling in my head due to what was going on in the world and my own mind. My mind made up all these stories of how post-grad is supposed to go. Like, oh, you graduated now, it's time to figure out your whole life plan.

Update & Insight From A New Earth
Does your brain ever stop thinking? Comparing? Striving for a future moment? Look back at the past? Unless you are an alien, your answer is yes. We all can fall prey to the thinking and egoic mind diving deep into our thoughts. But do we ever look up and realize none of it is true?
After reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle for the second time, I feel a great sense of awakening inside of me. No, I don't feel like Tony Robbins with the need to beat my chest and be a gorilla. I am BEING me.
