Overcome with Justin Wren

By Overcome with Justin Wren

Everyone you meet, every single day, is fighting a battle you know nothing about. We are all in the process of overcoming something big, something small, but we are faced with the challenge to overcome all the time. You, me, we have overcome 100% of our darkest days.

I’m Justin Wren, and I believe we are all Overcomers if we choose to overcome. We all have the option. I have overcome childhood trauma, sexual abuse, immense bullying, depression, suicidal ideation, self-imposed substance abuse, and addiction to numb my pain, and I survived two real-deal suicide attempts.

Oleg Lougheed’s story will inspire you to overcome the odds because of the incredible way he has in his own life. I am so grateful he shared his story with me and that I get to share it with you now. Growing up in a Russian orphanage, Oleg was mistreated, neglected, and abused. After adoption to the US at age twelve, he has risen up to start the nonprofit Overcoming Odds that focuses on helping children and families bridge the gap and gain insight, education, and resources for successful international adoptions. It’s much more than that, though; he has created a forum for transformational conversations that allow people to be seen, be heard, and to dive down deep into the issues of problems so that solutions can be discovered and implemented. Oleg’s story is jaw dropping, heart breaking, gut wrenching, but at the same time heart warming, perspective shifting, and mind expanding. 36 - Align Podcast with Justin

This week! A special episode of Justin on Aaron Alexander's Align Podcast for Overcome with Justin Wren.

Our old podcast network abruptly closed down. We are working on getting Amy’s studio at our house set up while I’m getting in the groove at a great studio in Austin. This will be the best thing for the podcast as we are now entirely independent which is what we were being led towards! It’s an exciting time!

Over the next few weeks I will be lining out some great new guests with powerful and profound stories to stay tuned for. This week we are airing an episode I did as a guest on my good friend Aaron Alexander’s Align Podcast, when we both first came to Austin.

This is my story, and, I’m really excited to share it with you from the perspective and deep questions Aaron came up to ask me right on the spot. I had a realization during this talk that I’ve never had asked in 100+ therapy sessions from 3-4 incredible counselors, therapists, and psychiatrists. It has to do with sticky hands, but I'll let you listen to find out why that matters.

Aaron is a dear friend of mine and has 16 years of experience as a movement coach and has clients ranging from A-list celebrities, pro athletes, and everyone in between. We workout together, hike, paddle board, box, do Jiujitsu, and bike around Austin often. He has a new book out: The Align Method: A Modern Movement Guide for a Stronger Body, Sharper Mind, and Stress-Proof Life. Endorsements on the book are from Laird Hamilton, Gabby Reece, Aubrey Marcus, and more.

To help us continue to grow this podcast please leave a rating or review for the show. “The biggest disability is a bad mindset.”

My good friend Nick Santonastasso is a POWERHOUSE of a human, and to me, the definition of an Overcomer. That’s why I felt this episode is so important that we are airing it twice. This was my first episode of this podcast, and Nick was the perfect first guest to set the tone of what I want this show to be. Some of you might have heard it if you’ve followed since the first episode, but I hope you’ll listen to it again, it’s that good. If you haven’t heard it, please give yourself this gift of hearing Nick’s story and receiving his message.

Nick has had to rise up and OVERCOME more than most ever will since his very first breath… and more than most could ever imagine. He’s lived more life in his 26 years young than most ever will. He’s an inspiration to men I admire like The Rock, Ed Mylett, Tony Robbins, and many pro-athletes, musicians, and the list goes on and on.

#31 - Ben Greenfield

Ben Greenfield is a leader in health and wellness, and is the author of 13 books with a new one on parenting, out soon. He is a highly sought after podcast guest as well as a pioneer in podcasting, having his own show since about the first 20 shows on iTunes, having to code each individual episode. He is a renaissance man, a total human optimizer, and an absolute beast at 40 years old. To start our day we had a killer workout session at Onnit and it’s the first time I needed a trash can, in case I was going to throw up. Ben is a wealth of knowledge, incredibly interesting, and you will surely learn quite a lot to optimize your health, your sleep, and your family, as I did in this episode.

I’m a fan of Ben’s work, his life, and who he is as a person. I’m honored to introduce you to Ben if you haven’t heard of him, and if you have, I believe you will find something valuable to your life. We had some fun at the end, and wrapped it up with an Animal Psychology quiz I gave Ben to find his spirit animal backed by Carl Jung’s work. If you want to do the test yourself, pause the episode and follow along, writing down your answers.

Listen too for how Ben wrote his new book on parenting, and his advice on travel workouts, travel sleep hacks, and so much more valuable info.

Introducing Overcome with Justin Wren

Introducing Overcome with Justin Wren

Everyone you meet, every single day, is fighting a battle you know nothing about. We are all in the process of overcoming something big, something small, but we are faced with the challenge to overcome all the time. You, me, we have overcome 100% of our darkest days.

I’m Justin Wren, and I believe we are all Overcomers if we choose to overcome. We all have the option. I have overcome childhood trauma, sexual abuse, immense bullying, depression, suicidal ideation, self-imposed substance abuse, and addiction to numb my pain, and I survived two real-deal suicide attempts.

I am blessed with great friends like Joe Rogan, Dustin Poirier, and Manny Pacquiao, who have helped me, Justin Wren, share my story, Fight For The Forgotten, and the story of the Pygmy people. Joe Rogan had me on the Joe Rogan Experience 9 different times to share my story and experiences with Fight For The Forgotten and the Pygmy people. Joe Rogan, Dustin Poirer, and Manny Pacquiao have helped me raise an immense amount of funds for Fight For The Forgotten.

This podcast is my opportunity to give back. To share the most remarkable stories of people who have overcome adversity and remind each of you listening that you have overcome 100% of your darkest days, and now is no time to stop. I will have guests like Joe Rogan, Dustin Poirer, Manny Pacquiao, Jared Padalecki, Tim Dillon, Tim Kennedy, Laird Hamilton, Gabby Reece, Kelly Slater, Mike Tyson, Ed Mylett, David Sinclair and many more on the show.

#10 - Justin Wren on Why I’m Going Back to Rehab/Treatment

#10 - Justin Wren on Why I’m Going Back to Rehab/Treatment

They say: “If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.” I’ve stopped digging and I’ve reached out for help. I wanted to get really real with y’all in this episode and let you in behind the curtain of when I relapsed. I believe this episode will be a resource to anyone who has personally struggled with addiction or loves someone who has. It’s an inside look, or, sort of, an “addict’s guide to addiction.” I’ve found a great place to go get some healing, self-care, and do some deep work to gain new tools to hopefully stay out of the hole of substance abuse in the future.

I’m doing this podcast the night before I head into a drug treatment facility for the second time in my life. I’m amazed by the support, but I’m on a journey of self-discovery to get below the topsoil, below the substances, and to the underlying root causes. I share some stories of what’s been happening... some of the good, the bad, and the ugly. I will talk with my doctor and friend Daniel Amen (12x NYT Best Selling Author and Psychiatrist) in one of the next episodes to come. It's a live therapy session we open up to our listeners, but that episode really inspired this one.

Overcome with Justin Wren will still be coming out every week. I recorded several powerful episodes as I prepared to go get some MUCH needed coaching, and I got some amazing coaching and advice here on the show to empower us to overcome our greatest challenges. It was hard, but I really tried to lean in and become comfortable being uncomfortable in front of a microphone after what some might label defeat. I’ve decided defeat is not a destination, it’s education. Progress isn’t linear. There are ups and downs to recovery, so I decided to share mine. My hope and prayer is that this will help someone, hopefully you. Time to Overcome.

#8 - Justin Wren Is More Inspired Than Ever

We’ve got something incredible to celebrate in this episode! That’s why we are doing our first solo cast, or duo cast with Amy, and don’t have a guest this time around. I’m the founder of the nonprofit Fight For The Forgotten and we just had our biggest two weeks ever as a nonprofit, which means we are gearing up to change more lives for the better than ever before.

In this episode, we relate my purpose and passion to you finding and pursuing your own. We talk about living a life of love and compassion and putting those forces of good into action. So get ready, buckle up, because we get into not only the history of Fight For The Forgotten, but forecast the amazing future ahead, and believe you’ll be inspired to leave an incredible legacy. Legacy, as much as we all want to leave one, it’s not for you, it’s your gift to the world. Our friends and family will all remember us, but it’s our actions and way of living, here and now, that will dictate if those memories are fond or foul. You’ve got it in you. Rise up, overcome.

Much love everyone. Get ready to be encouraged to the core.
