Ep. 74 Callie Goetz the Nuclear Potter
On this episode of the KAANP we have Callie Goetz @the_nuclear_potter and she is legit double trouble. A nuclear scientist AND one hell of a potter. We sat down in her studio at Might Mud and talked a lot about porcelain and a little about how her science and her art influence each other. How inseparable they are, and how pottery is like jazz. So if you need to know how this all works just like I did, then definitely throw this one in your ear holes and hang on!
Also the BIG news attached to this episode is that the KAANP is now part of the Podnooga network! This is a Chattanooga based podcast network and I am happy to be on board with them. I give ya the run down in the first two minutes to get you up to speed and then its business as usual.
I also encourage y'all to go take a look at the other podcasts on the Podnooga network and show them some love, tell em I sent you.
I have a sponsor now! Listeners get 10% off on Relaxed Tax by Sagan Financial Group, a local Chattanooga company serving all 50 states. Use coupon code KAANP when getting your tax return filing at https://www.saganfg.com/
As always thanks for listening to the KAANP. Follow the program on instagram @kaanppodcast and go out and see some art somewhere. You'll love yourself just a little bit more for it.
Ep. 73 Vincent Drake
To me Vincent Drake had always been an aloof figure in the realm of Knoxville creatives. His work has a look that I really enjoy but hard to label. It's deconstructed, composed, chaos, and order all at the same time and I really dig it. When I made it into his studio to record our conversation he made it clear that he very much disliked small talk and was very excited to have a long form conversation about his work, the environments that spawn his creations, and we even get into the nature of free will a bit. We went all over the map with this one and it was a treat to pick his brain but he also picked mine a bit too. So be ready, this conversation could be considered a bit revealing for more than just the guest, we both take a dive into our creative ethos just to do so.
Ep. 72 Skout Smith
This episode features a wonderfully talented Skout Smith. She paints, she draws, but mostly she tattoos. We cover the bases, influences, work flows, and how chasing the muse is a bitch sometimes. Also her adventures into vintage camper ownership and its hurdles. She's gonna be tattooing at Golden Heart in Seymour for the next little while, I would definitely check her out sooner than later if you're in the market for some new ink. We had a fun chat and I hope you enjoy listening.
You can find Skout on instagram here, and the tattoo shop Golden Heart here.
As always yall are downright the best listeners and I appreciate when ya hit the play button every single time.
Ep. 71 A Rucked up Red Pretzel Crisp Soiree
This show is the only "tradition" of the KAANP. I gather Ruck, Dan, Preston, myself, and occasionally Magnus around a small table filled with cables, mic stands, tiny trash cans and warm hearts. We chat art, our creative desires, mess with effects and make horrible jokes. We try to hold ourselves at least a little bit accountable for what we have and will create. This is your front row seat into what its like seeing 4 noodly artsy brains be noodly artsy brains together and it pleases me greatly to be able to present this silliness to you at the top of the year.
You all are the best, and I hope you enjoy the ride because this episode is a doozy. (this episode EARNED the explicit E btw so...ya know be aware)
Thank you for listening.
Ep. 70 Randy L Purcell
I found Randy L Purcell on the ole Instagram and had to bend his ear. I had never seen and was totally ignorant of his particular form of expression. Luckily, I asked nicely, and he obliged to let me pick his brain. I found bees, their wax, lots of tiny pieces of paper, and a very vivid imagination. I hope you all enjoy hearing me be educated about his process and a little bit of joyful banter.
You can find Randy at his website here or his instagram.
Ep. 69 the Orgycast
Episode 69 was another shot in the dark, question into the ether, random questions via the internet. I gathered a group of glorious individuals in the super secret studio, Brandi Augustus, Chance Losher, Derek Rucker, John Starkey, and Adam Rowe. In effort and spirit to gather more creative folks and make the world smaller I hosted another group episode. We all touch base on the struggles of being creatives, what its like being a creative person in Knoxville, and a bit of how and why we advocate for our chosen forms of expression.
You can find Brandi all over the internet. Click here for her website and here for her instagram.
the rest of the wonderful guests all have their own episodes to go stick in your ears, so please enjoy the backlog.
as always many thanks to yall for listening.
Ep. 68 Mallory Hardy
Mallory was kind enough to let me pick her brain a bit about her chosen profession and her passion. We went over some favorites, things we despised, childhood trauma and death row meals. A good general romp through he foodie life with some laughs sprinkled in.
If you'd like to get in touch with Mallory and see how awesome she is at making yummy things you can find her on instagram
Ep. 67 Kelly Ferguson
Kelly Ferguson is a fresh face on the scene and was kind enough to let me give her the KAANP treatment. So naturally I picked her brain on the hows, why's, and wtf's about her creative practice. If you wanna scope out the fruits of her creativity you can find her on Instagram by the name of @patsknicknacks and yes that gets an explanation. I hope you all enjoy the listen, there's some cicadas in the backyard, no way I was editing that out because I enjoy it too much.
Ep. 66 Tiny Stage Comedy
Tiny Stage Comedy came to the mic represented by Rowan and Rikki. Rowan started Tiny Stage and Rikki is her prime co conspirator in the effort. They are both comedians and creators looking to make spaces for people like themselves. Give a listen to the episode and let em tell ya how and why they do it.

Ep. 65 AI reflections
I sat down with my friends Sean (peep episode 38) and Stoney to sorta touch base on our own opinions of what and how AI tools have made it into our lives and society in general. We recorded this on a back porch, so yall are gonna get all the nature noises on top of the banter. We had a lively chat on the mater and I hope yall enjoy listening.
If you've got opinions answer the question featured with the episode!
Ep. 64 the Spawn and I build a robot
My son Elliot wanted to make an episode with me while we build his robot. So as any good father would, I obliged. We assembled a birthday present that happens to be a programmable walking robot. We had a blast, this is definitely not a normal episode but I am not less happy to present it.
Ep. 63 Chance Losher AKA Professor Rainbow
Chance Losher AKA the Professor Rainbow himself graces the mic once again. We play a little catch up since his last appearance on the program, talk about making old things new again, and how fun that is. Noteable mentions go to AI shenanigans, local print houses, and pyramids.
Stick it in your ears and lets see what happens.
You can find him on instagram and his website
As always thanks for listening!
Ep. 62 Gianna of Three of Wands Wellness
and as always, thanks for listening!
Ep. 61 Benny Smith
Benny Smith is one of those guys that's really out there to make where he lives a better place to be with all the tools he's got. He's doing a kickass job too. He's the station manager of WUTK, and all around awesome dude as I came to discover. After a very very long time trying to get this conversation to happen, here we go.
Ep. 60 Art Park Adventures w/ Shaun Ridge
Shaun and I sat down to have a short lil recap talk about the wall we did together for the summer mural jam at The Walls art park in Waverly, TN.
Shaun is a previous guest on the podcast, go find his episode and give it a listen if ya feel so inclined. Otherwise enjoy this one and thanks for listening.
Ep. 59 Wills Maxwell and Brandi Augustus
Sometimes fun conversations just sorta fall in a person's lap, and this is definitely one of those conversations...
Wills and Brandi got on mic with me to talk about The Black Power Rangers Comedy Tour. Specifically the Knoxville date with Brandi. You'll hear all about it in the episode, the hows, the whys, and all that jazz. This is the first time I've had professional funny people and radical story tellers on the show. We talk a lot about funny, inspirations, and a little about joke craft. I hope yall enjoy.
Here are their websites, go check em out and go see the Black Power Rangers Comedy Tour!
Ep. 58 Bill Foster
To be blunt, and whether he may know it or not, Bill has been a must get guest for the show. I think that he has my favorite perspective on the culture and night life of the city and I had to pick his brain about some stuff. He kindly obliged and sat down with me to chat about how he does his thing.
If you wanna see his work or get in touch with the man you can do so here https://www.billfosterphotos.com
Ep. 57 Ame of Junedog Art
Ame's wheelhouse seems to be broad esoterica with a heavy influence from the natural world around her...which I think is pretty cool. We have an all around good chat about her style, workflow, ethos, and why we both hate cat hair when it comes to art. We also dive into where she wants to go with her art for the foreseeable future. I really enjoyed recording this conversation, I hope y'all enjoy listening just as much.
You can find her wares online via junedogart.square.site and her socials instagram and tiktok
As always thanks for listening. If you wanna make any suggestions for future guests or questions you'd like to ask the quests, drop me a line and I'll try to make it happen

Ep. 54 Steph Cabell
Exceptionally capable but crudely equipped, the king corndog, and purveyor of a very specific brand of raunch, my friend Steph Cabell, song slinger about town.

Her fb link is right here and its the best place to keep up with the shenanigans!

Ep. 52 Alon Ferency
Alon is one of those folks that you meet on occasion that views things in a light a bit different than most. Which for what he does with his life and professional pursuits is a wonderful thing. He describes himself as a spiritual counselor for creators, makers and artists. After this conversation I can see why and hope you can to.
You can find his website here and you can find his social media accounts under the same name Eclectic Cleric. FB and Instagram
As always thanks for listening and please rate, share, whatever, all that good stuff ya know?
Ep. 51 Chloe Melton
Neurochemistry, a chrome mannequin, and floral theory are all things that happen in this conversation. Why? I dont know, it just did. Lots of art chat and a studio tour, with just a hint of a squeaky chair. Chloe let me pick her brain about her creative self and how she navigates it. This episode was a blast to record and it delights me to share.
When you wanna scope out her work it can be done so here and as usual thank yall for listening. Please share and rate and whatever, byyyeeeeeeee
Ep. 50 Esther Sitver

Thanks for listening to me goof up the first intro of '23 and keep your ears peeled for the next episode!
Ep.49 Pretzel, Dan, Ruck, and the Moon Captain.
At this point its tradition. I set down with my 3 closest and dearest creative cohorts and we talk shop about the past, and maybe the future. We talk smack, a little art, and a whole lotta nonsense. This is definitely not the episode for serious art conversation but if you wanna hear 4 friends be goofs and touch on what its like to be us in this crazy world then this is the one for you.
Its been another crazy year making the KAANP, and I am whole heartedly appreciative of every moment yall spent listening and sharing the show. Fun things are in the works for 2023 so tick around!
Ep. 48 Michael Morgan
Michael is one of those guys whos always got something churning in the back of his mind. Whether it be a melody, chess strategy, or the ins and outs of a game he is designing. Its always something. I invited him to my super secret studio location to set up his keyboard and talk about how creativity finds its way through his life and in return he decided to give you wonderful listeners a bit of a show with live music in studio. He plays us in plays us out and some goodness in between so I hope yall enjoy.
If you wanna scope out his socials you can find his instagram here and FB here
As always thanks for listening and please do all the cool stuff you listeners do to help me grow this thang!
Ep. 47 Walls Art Park adventures with friends!
Sean and I have been meaning to make this bit of crossover media for a long while now, and we managed to drag some other awesome folks along for the ride. Kat, Sean, Matt, and I sat down around the table to talk about the pieces we were doing at the park, who we are, what we do, ya know all that jazz. Kat and Matt are returning guests so you should definitely give their previous episodes a listen if you haven't. Sean has his own youtube channel where he details his creative adventures. Click here to scope it out. You can find Kat's instagram here. Matt's can be found here.
It is a privilege to call these people friends and it was wonderful to sit and have this conversation. It was also a neat to create with them in a no pressure just for kicks weekend. This conversation is uncut and you hear everything from when I hit the record button once until it gets hit the second time. I am grateful for this experience and was happy to have shared it. Snow and all.
Thank y'all for listening!
Ep. 46 Alex Bullock
As advertised Alex Bullock is a one stop shop for anyone trying to build a brand. This episode covers a lot of ground. We talk about his career as a creative, Sailor Moon, work flows, styles and influences, his dog, painting shoes, crazy hectic video shoots, his dog as a camera man, and all sorts of other stuff you'll just have to listen to fond out. The world became a little smaller with this conversation and I like that.
if you wanna catch the man you can do so at his site www.filmpilotpro.com or his youtube Go check him out.
As always thanks for listening and go do all the cool things listeners do!
Ep. 45 Shaun Ridge
Shaun is a multitalented and ever growing creative person. We touch on how that manifests in his life, and on this, that, and a few other things. I join him in the musings of being one's worst critic and other facets of the glory that is expression. This conversation is an example of how two artists make the world a smaller and more joyful place. You can find his social outlets on facebook as Shaun Ridge or instagram @shaunsridge
Thanks for listening, and as always, if there is any local artist you'd like to hear me chat with let em know and maybe me as well.
Ep. 44 A Kiwi comes to roost, Bears, Tequila, and the return of the Waffle King
Ok, Y'all, this episode is a deviation from the norm in a lot of ways. This isn't a light hearted but somewhat serious arts centric conversation. It's 5 friends all connected by our creative efforts talking a very little bit of shop and a whole lotta bullshit. This is one example of how a bunch of artsy goobers talk to one another. If you care to listen I hope you enjoy this guilty pleasure of a podcast. Next episode is back to business, I swear.
Ep. 43 Jered Sprecher
This episode features Jered Sprecher. He's a Knoxville based multimedia artist who has work on display regionally and internationally. His work explores the space where the tangible and intangible aspects of our highly digitized lives meet. Finding the contrasts and tensions natural to the context and highlighting them in visually rich ways that keep your eyes glued to the piece.
You can find all his goodness and more info on his website at www.jeredsprecher.com

Tiny Rambling Update
Just a few minutes of some word vomit about the Whos, Whats, and Wheres.
Ep. 41 PsychShow teaser August 5th @ Next Level Brewing
I gathered or tried to gather each artist for a lil bitty audio teaser for our upcoming group show @ Next Level on August 5th. We all give somewhat of a breakdown of the bodies of work we are presenting at the show. Like I said, just a tease, lots of these works have never been seen in public before. Ever. So come see what all the local galleries are too scared to show you at the PsychShow.
Ep. 40 Whiskykitteeeeee
I know you didn't know you needed comics and funnies about a cat, donuts, and a very foul mouthed turkey. However it exists and you can get it in digital form and as a literal comic book. These glorious creations come from the mind of a person named Whiskykitteeeeee.
you can find her awesomeness on instagram and you can find her comic book here.
Ep. 39 Denise Stewart Sanabria
This person is busy, stays busy, loves being busy. She makes large format oil paintings that in my opinion are surreal and fantastical. I really enjoy her work and her work can be found in galleries all over the country and private collections all over the world. So give this episode a listen, hit the website, maybe find a gallery and take in these hyper colorful works of art for yourself.
https://stewart-sanabria.com is the website. You can also catch her on instagram and facebook
As always, thank you for listening and supporting the program!
Ep. 38 Sean Williams
If you find yourself out and about in Nashville, keep your eyes peeled for his work!
Ep. 37 Jeff Carr
Jeff isn't what you'd call a traditional artist. He's the Head Coach of the Knoxville Ice Bears. So we talked about the finesses of coaching and how artistry and creativity are found inside that context. We had a very insightful chat that I hope everyone can take something away from. Jeff is a great coach, he's well spoken, and very driven. I've seen him coach a hell of a lot of games and you can see that he loves what he does.
I hope yall enjoy, thanks for listening.
the Twisted Wrist x the Flop Ball Bonus pisode!
You can find the Flop Ball here and Paul's instagram here
Much Excite.
Ep. 36 Carl Gombert
Carl is multifaceted in his expression and we talk all about it and some of how he does it. He's been on the "talk to" list for a while and it was a real treat to sit down and bend his ear about creativity. He's also employed by Maryville College teaching art and get into a bit about that too. You can find his work on his website, facebook, and instagram.
Please share the episodes you enjoy, tell your friends they need em in their ear holes. Thats how you can support the show, If you wanna support the guy that makes the show, buy my art on instagram @the.twisted.wrist
Otherwise thanks for listening it is truly appreciated.
Ep. 35 Matthew Hurd
The music scene is Sneedville is pretty small, and the folks that really know how to play bluegrass number smaller yet. I was able to wrangle a family friend for a bit of time on the other side of the mic. Matthew grew up surrounded by music and eventually took the plunge. We chat a bit on his creative process, where he draws inspiration, and how music and life sorta just go together.
You can find Matthew's and some (hopefully to soon be on the show) other fine Sneedvillians' latest efforts on facebook and the band's website. https://www.brownlowband.com
Ep. 34 Ben Adams
The world is really big and yet really small at the same time This episode and this conversation sorta prove that. Ben is one of my favorite artists, has been for a while, so it was super cool to have this chat with him. He's a full time creative and living in one of the most beautiful places on earth. I was able to pick his brain a bit here like I haven't been able to before.
I hope yall enjoy this episode because I really enjoyed recording it.
Ep. 33 Danita Dodson
Another episode from Hancock county. I was super pleased to get this one recorded and out to yall. Ms. Danita was my high school Spanish teacher, at which she did an amazing job. She also does amazing jobs in other aspects of her life that do not involve classrooms. She's worldly and well traveled, articulate and an excellent listener, able to recognize things for their inherent beauty and to just be. When I learned she was putting together a collection of her poetry I knew I had to read it and I knew I had to chat with her about it. This is that chat, about Trailing the Azimuth.
You can find her social media outlets below.
As always thanks for listening and supporting the podcast. Enjoy!
Ep. 32 Matt Baum of Watch Out For Snakes
You can find all the goodness, tour dates, merch, and the rest of all that jazz on his Bandcamp.
Enjoy, and thanks for listening!
Ep. 31 Rick Campbell
Rick has been playing music for a while, and playing professionally on his own terms, which is a great accomplishment on its own. We gathered in his garage on a sort of windy day in east Tennessee. It was a privilege to sit with him and hear him tell of some of his favorite moments as a musician, pick his brain about how he makes the music he shares on youtube, and learn a little bit about how things used to be.
You can find him on his channel @ RickCampbellMusic
It was great to record within the lines of Hancock County and I look forward to my next opportunity to do so.
ALSO!! Big thanks to Arthur Hatton for lending me some intro/outro tunes. You can find the link to his song "fourteen hours" here
As always, thank you for listening, and enjoy.
Ep. 30 What should have been episode 25.
So this was the last thing I intended to record/release in 2021 buuuuuuttttttttt it wasnt because I forgot to post it. However here it is now. The guest list is as follows, Tonia West, Adam Rowe, Kevin Arellano, Terri Misch. It was a privilege to have all these wonderful people in one room tot talk to one another. I hit record and we were off to the races. It was a treat to record and I'm pleased to share it with everyone. I hope you enjoy.
Ep. 29 Chris Miller
If you are into automotive shenanigans in east Tennessee you may have heard of Risefab. If you haven't then you're in luck because I sat down with the man who started the business, Chris Miller. We talked about his journey to becoming the man behind the madness that is his shop. He helms a tight ship with a small crew who put out top quality work on full blown race cars all the way down to well modded daily driver goodness. Cars, car stuff, and some foolery inbound.
Ep. 28 Gin Lizzy
I met up with Gin to talk about her practice of creativity, she tends to express intense sensations of the human experience through imagery that I would call surreal. She has a unique style that I feel is very recognizable. Even though the content of her work may be polarizing aspects of the human experience the colors and line work feel warm and inviting. You can find all her social media and web shop links below!
Etsy Instagram SaatchiArt Patreon Soundcloud Facebook
Thanks for listening!
Ep.27 KAANP x SOS (South of Scruffy w/ Ben Fields)
I always enjoy getting to know whats up with people that do similar things to myself and I had the privilege to do that. Ben runs the South of Scruffy podcast where he talks with just about whoever strikes his fancy. Which is pretty much what I do, so it was nice to sit across the table from him and dig into the how's and why's of his program. We find parallels, differences, and overall a greater understanding of one another's creative outputs. That's an awesome thing in my opinion. I had a great time chatting with another local creative person and I hope yall enjoy listening. Links to his instagram and podcast are hyperlinked (which I think only works in the browser) so go check him out!
