Ep. 74 Callie Goetz the Nuclear Potter

Ep. 74 Callie Goetz the Nuclear Potter

On this episode of the KAANP we have Callie Goetz @the_nuclear_potter and she is legit double trouble. A nuclear scientist AND one hell of a potter. We sat down in her studio at Might Mud and talked a lot about porcelain and a little about how her science and her art influence each other. How inseparable they are, and how pottery is like jazz. So if you need to know how this all works just like I did, then definitely throw this one in your ear holes and hang on!

Also the BIG news attached to this episode is that the KAANP is now part of the Podnooga network! This is a Chattanooga based podcast network and I am happy to be on board with them. I give ya the run down in the first two minutes to get you up to speed and then its business as usual.

I also encourage y'all to go take a look at the other podcasts on the Podnooga network and show them some love, tell em I sent you.

I have a sponsor now! Listeners get 10% off on Relaxed Tax by Sagan Financial Group, a local Chattanooga company serving all 50 states. Use coupon code KAANP when getting your tax return filing at https://www.saganfg.com/

As always thanks for listening to the KAANP. Follow the program on instagram @kaanppodcast and go out and see some art somewhere. You'll love yourself just a little bit more for it.

Ep. 71 A Rucked up Red Pretzel Crisp Soiree

Ep. 71 A Rucked up Red Pretzel Crisp Soiree

This show is the only "tradition" of the KAANP. I gather Ruck, Dan, Preston, myself, and occasionally Magnus around a small table filled with cables, mic stands, tiny trash cans and warm hearts. We chat art, our creative desires, mess with effects and make horrible jokes. We try to hold ourselves at least a little bit accountable for what we have and will create. This is your front row seat into what its like seeing 4 noodly artsy brains be noodly artsy brains together and it pleases me greatly to be able to present this silliness to you at the top of the year.

You all are the best, and I hope you enjoy the ride because this episode is a doozy. (this episode EARNED the explicit E btw so...ya know be aware)

Thank you for listening.

Ep. 65 AI reflections

I sat down with my friends Sean (peep episode 38) and Stoney to sorta touch base on our own opinions of what and how AI tools have made it into our lives and society in general. We recorded this on a back porch, so yall are gonna get all the nature noises on top of the banter. We had a lively chat on the mater and I hope yall enjoy listening.

Ep. 64 the Spawn and I build a robot

My son Elliot wanted to make an episode with me while we build his robot. So as any good father would, I obliged. We assembled a birthday present that happens to be a programmable walking robot. We had a blast, this is definitely not a normal episode but I am not less happy to present it.

Ep. 62 Gianna of Three of Wands Wellness

I set up at a market this spring next to Gianna and was instantly impressed with how she goes about her business. I, knowing basically zero about tea did what I had to do, so she was asked if she wanted to be on the program and here we are. She gives us the lowdown on her operation, a lot about tea, and a bit on everything else Three of Wands offers. Hit the website and instagram for more of this delightful person and the company she helms!

and as always, thanks for listening!

Benny Smith is one of those guys that's really out there to make where he lives a better place to be with all the tools he's got. He's doing a kickass job too. He's the station manager of WUTK, and all around awesome dude as I came to discover. After a very very long time trying to get this conversation to happen, here we go.

Ep. 56 Jody Collins aka the Feral Giant

The world keeps getting smaller and we find out how during this conversation. Jody runs the Feral Giant, his marketing company and the Ramblin Man podcast. We sat down and talked for several hours and seemingly talked about damn near everything under the sun. I put him through the normal KAANP hoops and we had a blast going back and forth on our creativity, work flows/ styles, and shit about life.

You can find Feral Giant things here... and Ramblin Man pod here...
This conversation was a blast and I'm happy to present it to yall. As always, thanks for listening. It is greatly appreciated!

Ep 55 Irreversible Transcendence

Ep 55 Irreversible Transcendence

If there was ever a ridiculous episode to record on my back porch this one is it. You get the full audio breakdown of what my back yard sounds like. Birds. Neighbors. Traffic, land and air. Also some delightful creative people, Adam Rowe and Chloe Melton join me to burn some artwork and reflect on the act of destroying our creations. Lots of super serious art talk, fire sounds, and general shenanigans. The audio for this one starts a bit choppy in the first few minutes but I get it tuned up rather nicely shortly in. Noise gate foolishness. Anyway, Adam and Chloe are both previous guests so after you listen to this you should definitely go check out their previous appearances on the mic.

As always, thanks for listening, it is greatly appreciated!

Ep. 50 Esther Sitver

Y'all it felt really good to knock the dust off the hardware and the podcast part of my brain for this first episode of 2023 Esther is becoming a name in Knoxville in my opinion. You have probably seen her work out and about, her style is classic and she's super fun to talk to. She graced my microphone this week to tell us all how she gets down in her world of creativity. It was a blast picking her brain a bit.

If you wanna scope her work and see her social media you can find her instagram here. She has her link tree on her page and you can find all her other info that way.

Thanks for listening to me goof up the first intro of '23 and keep your ears peeled for the next episode!

Ep.49 Pretzel, Dan, Ruck, and the Moon Captain.

Ep.49 Pretzel, Dan, Ruck, and the Moon Captain.

At this point its tradition. I set down with my 3 closest and dearest creative cohorts and we talk shop about the past, and maybe the future. We talk smack, a little art, and a whole lotta nonsense. This is definitely not the episode for serious art conversation but if you wanna hear 4 friends be goofs and touch on what its like to be us in this crazy world then this is the one for you.

Its been another crazy year making the KAANP, and I am whole heartedly appreciative of every moment yall spent listening and sharing the show. Fun things are in the works for 2023 so tick around!

Ep. 47 Walls Art Park adventures with friends!

Ep. 47 Walls Art Park adventures with friends!

Sean and I have been meaning to make this bit of crossover media for a long while now, and we managed to drag some other awesome folks along for the ride. Kat, Sean, Matt, and I sat down around the table to talk about the pieces we were doing at the park, who we are, what we do, ya know all that jazz. Kat and Matt are returning guests so you should definitely give their previous episodes a listen if you haven't. Sean has his own youtube channel where he details his creative adventures. Click here to scope it out. You can find Kat's instagram here. Matt's can be found here.

It is a privilege to call these people friends and it was wonderful to sit and have this conversation. It was also a neat to create with them in a no pressure just for kicks weekend. This conversation is uncut and you hear everything from when I hit the record button once until it gets hit the second time. I am grateful for this experience and was happy to have shared it. Snow and all.

Thank y'all for listening!

Ep. 44 A Kiwi comes to roost, Bears, Tequila, and the return of the Waffle King

Ok, Y'all, this episode is a deviation from the norm in a lot of ways. This isn't a light hearted but somewhat serious arts centric conversation. It's 5 friends all connected by our creative efforts talking a very little bit of shop and a whole lotta bullshit. This is one example of how a bunch of artsy goobers talk to one another. If you care to listen I hope you enjoy this guilty pleasure of a podcast. Next episode is back to business, I swear.

Ep. 41 PsychShow teaser August 5th @ Next Level Brewing

I gathered or tried to gather each artist for a lil bitty audio teaser for our upcoming group show @ Next Level on August 5th. We all give somewhat of a breakdown of the bodies of work we are presenting at the show. Like I said, just a tease, lots of these works have never been seen in public before. Ever. So come see what all the local galleries are too scared to show you at the PsychShow.

Ep. 37 Jeff Carr

Jeff isn't what you'd call a traditional artist. He's the Head Coach of the Knoxville Ice Bears. So we talked about the finesses of coaching and how artistry and creativity are found inside that context. We had a very insightful chat that I hope everyone can take something away from. Jeff is a great coach, he's well spoken, and very driven. I've seen him coach a hell of a lot of games and you can see that he loves what he does.

I hope yall enjoy, thanks for listening.

Ep. 36 Carl Gombert

Carl is multifaceted in his expression and we talk all about it and some of how he does it. He's been on the "talk to" list for a while and it was a real treat to sit down and bend his ear about creativity. He's also employed by Maryville College teaching art and get into a bit about that too. You can find his work on his website, facebook, and instagram.

Please share the episodes you enjoy, tell your friends they need em in their ear holes. Thats how you can support the show, If you wanna support the guy that makes the show, buy my art on instagram @the.twisted.wrist

The world is really big and yet really small at the same time This episode and this conversation sorta prove that. Ben is one of my favorite artists, has been for a while, so it was super cool to have this chat with him. He's a full time creative and living in one of the most beautiful places on earth. I was able to pick his brain a bit here like I haven't been able to before.

Ep. 32 Matt Baum of Watch Out For Snakes

Chipwave is a word I didnt know until I had this conversation. It's the name given to the music made by Matt. A little bit 80's, a lot of videogames of the time, all fun. Watch Out For Snakes really hits me right in the feels and I leapt forth into the ether to ask Matt if he wanted to be on the show and he said yes. So here we are. He's in the ATL so we did this one virtual and made the best of it.

Ep. 29 Chris Miller

If you are into automotive shenanigans in east Tennessee you may have heard of Risefab. If you haven't then you're in luck because I sat down with the man who started the business, Chris Miller. We talked about his journey to becoming the man behind the madness that is his shop. He helms a tight ship with a small crew who put out top quality work on full blown race cars all the way down to well modded daily driver goodness. Cars, car stuff, and some foolery inbound.
