The on-going discussion of racism has historically been contentious yet necessary one in order to bring about change for the rights and liberties of millions of Americans. The present times we are living in bring to light how critical it is to continue the social justice movement and a key part of the work is engaging in transformative dialogue that challenges us all to grow, introspectively and externally as human beings living in an unequal world. The Race Relations Podcast wishes to be a tool for those seeking to gain knowledge, empathy, and perspective by viewing race-based discussions with experts in the field, those effected by racism, and even those who are attempting to figure out where they stand in trying to figure this complex and structured system and how they should act in the midst of it. Keys to Cultural Responsibility: Teachers Formula #7

Keys to Cultural Responsibility: Teachers Formula #7

What is a culturally responsive teacher? What does it take to become a culturally responsive teacher?

In this episode host Kaleb Sinclair sits down with Isabel Lynons, an experienced teacher who comes from a Nicaraguan backgroud with years of experience creating her own formula to an inclusive classroom space. This episode features information for teachers attempting to learn new tips as well as teachers looking for an multilingual informed approach.

Isabel's Bio: The focus of my career has been in the education field for the past seven years. I received my bachelor's in early childhood and family studies, a minor in Spanish, and a Masters in Teaching all at the University of Washington. During my time studying I focused my practice on trauma informed practices, resilience, longitudinal studies of early childhood trauma, and working in communities with historically marginalized people groups. I began my teaching journey working in early childhood and seeing how integral & formative the early years of a child's life are, then moved to teaching in a dual language school at the elementary level where I am able to serve a linguistically and culturally diverse student body & community.
