RNW 1.4: Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

RNW 1.4: Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

Knowing the information and starting the conversation early with our kids is the best way to prevent TDV.   Start the conversation and keep it going.  If you are experiencing TDV or fear that someone you know is, seek help.  Talk to a trusted adult, school counselor, or interventionists.  There are several resources in the greater Hoover area:

One Place Metro Alabama Family Justice Center provides coordinated services to victims and survivors of domestic violence (DV) and sexual assault all under one roof. Their contact number is 205-453-7261.

YWCA of Central Alabama offers DV services to residents of Jefferson, Blount, and St. Clair counties. Their 24-hour crisis line is 205-322-4878.

Safe House offers DV services to residents of Shelby, Clay, Chilton, and Coosa counties. Their number is  205-669-7233.

Crisis Center Birmingham is a 24-hour crisis line, with specific lines for teenagers and for rape response support. That number is 205-323-7273.

RNW 1.2: Hope for the Holidays: Creating New Traditions When Loss is Fresh

RNW 1.2: Hope for the Holidays: Creating New Traditions When Loss is Fresh

District Mental Health Specialist Kandace VanWanderham and District Interventionists Brian Rodgers and Jennifer McCombs discuss tips and approaches for facing the holiday seasons when grief and loss are fresh. Several great ideas for new traditions are shared that can help the family come together to remember their loved ones.

RESOURCES:
The Amelia Center - The Amelia Center provides professional counseling for children (age 5 and above) and teens grieving the death of a parent, grandparent, sibling, close relative, or friend. We provide a safe place where they can find hope and creatively express feelings through art and play.

Counseling is also provided for parents grieving the death of a child of any age, ranging from pregnancy loss through adulthood. Support groups for children, teens, and parents are available as well.

National Alliance for Grieving Children Holiday Toolkit - This holiday toolkit is provided with the hopes it will provide ideas and inspiration for families to celebrate loved ones, those present and those who have died. We hope together your family will create conversations and activities to honor the holiday season and your loved ones.
