Katie with Sarah Ioannides on Resilience in Pursuit of a Dream
This episode is very meaningful to me. Last spring, I had the privilege to interview Sarah Ioannides, world-renowned conductor and the music director for Symphony Tacoma, for a video feature to share Sarah’s story of how she became a conductor, her resilience through personal challenges and the passion that keeps her going.
This episode is a collection of excerpts from the original interview. You can see the full video on the Symphony Tacoma Youtube channel.
Katie with Clifford Yee on Courageous Leadership
In this episode, I'm talking with Clifford Yee, a leadership facilitator and trainer with Coro Northern California, about something that is a passion of mine: Courageous Leadership. Cliff and I discuss the importance of staying grounded in your core values, how to work with people who you might not necessarily see eye-to-eye with and how Cliff has recently put courageous leadership into action with his advocacy work with the San Francisco Parent Coalition.
Katie with a personal story of the last few weeks
This episode is a little different than my others. I'm speaking to you directly from the heart about a very personal subject. I've been off the grid a bit and this episode tells you what has been going on in my personal life and the meaning I've found through this trying experience.
Katie on Prioritizing Your Needs and Boundaries
In this episode, I'm speaking directly to you about something that I find sacred: boundaries and prioritizing your own needs. I go in depth about not just the why but the how -- what it takes to set a boundary and how to be authentic, rooted in your values and have respect for others and yourself.
Katie with Dr. Keith Bell on Burnout
In this episode, I'm with Dr. Keith Bell, a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, a nationally recognized expert in the field of Holistic Health and a specialist in burnout. Keith and I talk all things burnout: what exactly it is, prevention and stages of burnout, our own personal experiences, the difference between stress and burnout, courage and how it relates to burnout.
Katie with Laura Hugill on Mindfulness and Loving Your Life
In today’s episode, I’m talking with my lovely friend and fellow coach, Laura Hugill.
Laura is the founder of Mindfully Laura, has supported thousands of people globally to improve their lives through professional coaching, interactive workshops and Mindfulness practices. She has led 1,000 people in Self-Development and Mindfulness workshops around the world and is a Facilitator and Mindfulness Teacher at Google.
When I was thinking about people to talk about mind-body-spirit, I knew I wanted to bring in Laura to teach us about mindfulness and how it can aid us in learning to love our lives.
Enjoy this conversation where Laura tells us about her personal transformational journey and how you can use mindfulness and manifestation to learn to love your life.
Katie with Danielle Duong on Personal Healing and Spiritual Journeys
In this episode, I'm with Danielle Duong to talk about her transformational healing journey, which she calls a Year of Dana, when she took a year-long sabbatical to practice generosity. In her own words, this year was spent "actively cultivating a heartset and mindset of abundance and dismantling mental conditioning and behaviors based in scarcity and fear."
Danielle’s journey is inspiring and the way she tells it is thoughtful, insightful and downright beautiful. I am so grateful to Danielle for her transparency and vulnerability in sharing her story with us so that we can learn to soften our own hearts.
Katie with Christina McFadden on the Power of Somatic Coaching
In this second episode of the Holistic Courage series where we explore courage and the connection to mind, body and spirit, I am with Christina McFadden, a leadership coach and experiential facilitator, to talk about somatics in coaching. I asked Christina to walk through what is somatics, what we can learn when we connect with our bodies and some practices we can use to put it into action.
What I didn't expect is that I would get a free coaching session! To demonstrate the transformative power of somatics, Christina coaches me and we develop a strategy to distinguish between balance and harmony. We also discuss fear responses and physical actions we can take to be in choice about our response to stressful situations. You will find this episode eye-opening and will walk away with simple but transformational strategies to put into practice right away.
Katie with Halie Devlin on Addiction and Embodied Recovery
This episode is a remarkable example of courage, vulnerability and service. I had the absolute pleasure to talk with my friend, Halie Devlin, a somatic, body-oriented facilitator and educator, sober coach, mother, and healing justice advocate. Halie is here to tell us about her story of addiction, her recovery journey, her work and the Embodied Recovery Community she built to support women in recovery. And wow, did she bring her whole self to this conversation. I am immensely grateful to Halie for being vulnerable in sharing the depth of her journey and what it is that she loves about being sober.

Andrew Evans, Wildcard. Part Two
Here is Part Two of an inspiring and entertaining conversation with Andrew Evans, professional magician and founder of The Magic Patio, San Francisco's premier magic experience. In this episode, Andrew and I pick up where we left off from Part One and continue to discuss how his business has changed during the Covid-19 Pandemic. At the end, we even have a little magic surprise that will blow your mind.
Andrew Evans, Wildcard. Part One
This episode is a little different and a ton of fun. I had the absolute thrill to talk with my close friend, Andrew Evans, who is a professional magician and one of the most interesting and brilliant people I know. Before taking the plunge to pursue magic as his full-time profession and open his own theater, the Magic Patio, Andrew had a successful career as a lead designer for the innovative design company, IDEO, based in the Bay Area.
In this episode, Andrew tells us his story of how he went from a rollercoaster enthusiast to engineer to treehouse builder to designer to magician. We talk what it took for him to take the leap to open the Magic Patio complete with an expensive 5-year lease in the San Francisco Mission District and a staff of ten.
Andrew and I had such a great time talking that I’ve split this conversation into two parts so that we can really dive into Andrew’s story. In Part One, Andrew tells us his story leading up to the Covid-19 pandemic when restrictions on indoor gatherings forced the Magic Patio to temporarily close its doors. Stay tuned for Part Two when Andrew tells us how he has adapted his magic performances to a completely virtual experience for company happy hours, team celebrations and virtual offsites.
Toxic Positivity
We often cling to positive thinking as the gold standard. While positivity has many wonderful benefits, it can become toxic. In this episode, I explore what this looks like and how we can find our way through struggle and difficult emotions without falling prey to toxic positivity.
Katie with Dr. Rollo Dilworth on Music and Social Justice
In this episode, I talk with Dr. Rollo Dilworth -- the Vice Dean and Professor of Choral Music Education at Temple University and world-renowned conductor and composer of African American music and whose original compositions feature poetry from African American writers. Even if you can’t carry a tune, you’ll be inspired by Rollo’s passion for music education and social justice.

Guts and Heart
This audio essay explores the dual sides of courage -- what I call the Guts and the Heart. I share my thoughts about how our culture favors one over the other and how it relates to our perception of worthiness and why we must restore the balance.
