Should I Stay or Should I go? A Canadian Immigration Experience.

Should I Stay or Should I go? A Canadian Immigration Experience.

The 2016 Canadian census data reports that one-fifth of the Canadian population is foreign-born.

Emigrating to a new country is not a light decision. In fact, it is a huge undertaking with a very stringent application and qualification process. Although Canada is generally very welcoming to immigrants, the person emigrating will see their entire lives uprooted; they will now have to adapt to new customs, possibly learn a new language, and certainly a new way of life. The more supports and empathy available to immigrants, the easier and smoother this transition will be.

Today I am joined by Daniel, a new-comer to Canada, who has kindly agreed to share his experiences through this often tricky process.

Intellectual Property & A Guide to Copyright

Intellectual Property & A Guide to Copyright

The term intellectual property refers to any creation of the mind or imagination such as a literary, artistic, or scientific work. It could be a design, a logo, or a piece of music, it could be a symbol, an image, or a photograph.

During lockdown many of us have seen the opportunity to finally take up that hobby we’ve always dreamed of; whether it has been to perfect that sourdough bread recipe, or to finally learn how to use the DSLR camera in manual mode, we’ve set our minds to be more productive as ever. As if all of our new year’s resolutions have come due at once.

But what if, during this phase of self-discovery, you’ve come across a hidden talent that you could monetize? By turning it into a creative business for yourself?

To help us better understand this subject, I’m am joined today by an intellectual property lawyer, Andrew, who has focused his career on the acquisition and protection of trademarks, copyrights, as well as advertising, and marketing.

We all have a desire to communicate with each other.

Whether it's verbal, written, or even in a song, language through the use of words or phrases allows us to express our thoughts, feelings, and ideas.  Common language can be specific to a particular context, or can even be restricted to a distinct group of people.

From slang terms to untranslatable words, in this episode we discuss language as a means of individual expression and identity.
