BEE #124: Is It Consistency or Perfectionism?
It can be exciting to set a goal for yourself that you really want to achieve, and when you start to see progress towards reaching it….nothing can be more rewarding.
But have you ever felt yourself starting to obsess about wanting to achieve something? I’m talking the “can’t stop thinking about it all day and night" kind of thinking. When does it cross the line from being a healthy pursuit of a goal, and it moves into perfectionism?
This week’s episode of The Breakthrough Emotional Eating podcast I discuss emphasizes the importance of maintaining a healthy mindset when striving for a goal, and avoiding self-destructive behaviors associated with perfectionism.
Is it consistency or perfectionism? You will learn:
The distinction between consistency and perfectionism lies in the mindset one adopts while working towards a goal.
Consistency involves being reliable and steady in behaviors, whereas perfectionism entails setting excessively high expectations for flawless performance.
Consistent progress is gradual and acknowledges setbacks as part of the journey, while perfectionism leads to self-criticism and unrealistic standards.
Strategies for adopting a healthier mindset include setting realistic goals, focusing on progress rather than perfection, learning from setbacks, practicing self-compassion, and controlling perfectionistic thoughts.
Ultimately, prioritizing self-care and recognizing when perfectionism becomes detrimental are crucial for achieving sustainable progress and avoiding negative emotional patterns like emotional eating.

BEE #117: Weight Loss Her Way (Interview with Shawn Johnson)
Something I hear from people who are interested in doing my program, but are hesitant..."I just don't think I have time to attend the meetings and post in the group. It just seems too much of a time commitment."
And I get that.
Meet Shawn....
Shawn is a member of The Breakthrough Membership and she decided when she joined that she was going to do the program in a way that was going to fit into her busy life.
She is an esthetician and has a full schedule of clients, and posting in the group and attending meetings just wasn't going to work for her.
In this week’s podcast, Shawn outlines specifically what she did to stop dieting, end her cycle of binge eating, and lose 45 pounds in 9 months.
If you want to change your life, sometimes you have to take a chance and trust yourself and others. Trust me when I say that the program I have created will change your relationship with food, and with yourself.

BEE #116: Roller Coasters and Weight Loss....The Power of a Why
Motivation is a tricky thing.
Some days, you don’t need anything to get you to stick with your meal plan, or get outside to take a walk, or to ignore the birthday cake that is sitting in the break room at work.
But then there are other days…..days when you just want to throw away all of the hard work you have done and end up face first in a tub of Ben & Jerry’s.
So what do you do on those days? How do you turn it around and stay committed to your long-term goal?
You must know your WHY.
And let me be clear…..it shouldn’t just be one why but instead, it should be an arsenal of whys that keep you focused and moving towards your goal.
What makes a good why?
Anything that provides encouragement, incentive, and direction so you can move through the hard days and get to the end goal.
On this week’s podcast, I am talking to Julie, one of my long-standing clients who has been a guest on the podcast before. She has been incredibly successful and this week she is going to let you in on the why that has been her motivation to lose weight and although she still is not to her final goal, her why is continuing to drive her in the right direction.
So what is Julie’s why?
It involves tracks, corkscrews, and chocolate.
Her story is so inspiring…..you don’t want to miss it.
Julie has lost over 90 pounds in The Breakthrough Membership and she is not stopping. She has learned to listen to her thoughts, knows that she does not have to do anything her thoughts tell her to do, and that she she can eat a lot less food than she used to (but foods she loves) and lose weight.
The Breakthrough Membership is not a weight loss diet, it is a lifestyle program that results in weight loss and positive feelings about yourself. It is not a “get thin quick” type of thing….it is only for those people who really want to take a deep look at how they think and feel about themselves, and how that is impacting the choices they are making with their food.

BEE #115: 8 WEIGHT LOSS MYTHS DEBUNKED
We have all fallen for it.
The e-mail you find in your inbox that promises a loss of five inches off your waist in one week if you drink a certain combination of juices and herbs before bed.
Or the late night infomercial that tell you that if you count a certain number of macros each day and that will guarantee you a weight loss of 10 pounds in a week.
There are so many lies, half-truths, and myths regarding weight loss out there and you need to be cautious about what you believe and what you ignore.
In this week’s podcast, I will disprove the eight most common myths that baffle emotional eaters, and results in them quitting on themselves and their weight loss efforts.
You will learn:
How most people focus on the wrong things when it comes to losing weight
What to realistically expect when it comes to daily weight loss
How you should feel when striving to lose weight
That there is a way to lose weight that is sustainable

Do you have those days where your head feels filled with thoughts, worries, concerns, judgements, projections, and miscellaneous toxicity? Sometimes, it can get so crowded inside our brain that it feels like it just might explode.
Do you know what I am talking about?
I bet you do, and it can feel confusing regarding how to handle these types of situations but I am going to share with you on this week’s podcast the answer to emptying your mind of thoughts so you can start looking at situations in your life, and more specifically with your eating and relationship with food, in a new way.
And what is this magic that I speak of?
It couldn’t be simpler…..journaling.
Now before you start to object about not having time to journal, or you don’t know what to write about, just hear me out…..in today’s podcast you are going to learn just how simple and straight-forward journaling can be, and I will also provide direction for those who want a bit more direction in their journaling practice.
In this week’s podcast you will learn:
Why journaling is so important to your overall mental and physical health

BEE #113: How Long Will It Take To "Fix" My Emotional Eating? Interview with Sarah Earl
The most common question I am asked by emotional eaters is how long does it take to “fix” this problem.
The first thing I need to clarify is that emotional eating is not a problem you “fix” and it goes away. For most people, it will be something they will need to be aware of, probably for the rest of their lives, and to be honest, the sooner that reality is accepted the easier things get.
Meet Sarah, a member of The Breakthrough Membership, who wondered that as well, until one day it all “clicked” for her, and after struggling with staying on track with her program and losing weight, she was able to lose 7 lbs in one week and feel completely in control of her eating and her life.
On this week’s podcast, meet Sarah and learn how she used the information she learned in The Breakthrough Membership to uncovered her limiting beliefs and is addressing them one by one so she can continue to move forward with her weight loss goals.
The Breakthrough Membership is a monthly membership that teaches emotional eaters how to reconnect with themselves, discover their own personal needs and how to meet them, and show them that they deserve to be #1 on their list. To learn more about this life-changing program, click here.
BEE #112: The ONE THING You Aren't Doing (and Should Be) To Reach Your Goals
Working towards a goal can be exciting at the beginning….the prospect of making a change that could alter your life in a positive way creates hope for a better life.
But what happens 7, 10, or 14 days later when the allure of achieving your goal is no longer as strong and you are distracted by the next new thing to catch your attention? Your motivation dies a slow death and suddenly the goal you so desperately wanted to achieve is now nothing but a memory.
What’s the answer to this common problem that prevents many from reaching their goals and making changes?
Accountability.
Connecting with one or more people who want to support, encourage, and assist you in staying focused, energized, and motivated to continue moving forward, even when times are tough.
On this week’s podcast, you will learn about the benefits of cultivating an accountability partner/group, and how it can change your process for improving your life. I also, discuss how we use accountability groups in The Breakthrough Membership, and the incredible results it is helping our members achieve.

BEE #111: The Link Between Binge Eating and Childhood Trauma
If you are an emotional eater, it is more than likely that at some point you have overeaten to a point of discomfort, and as a result have felt shame and guilt about it. This type of situation is not exclusive to emotional eaters, and if this has happened to you, it would be considered a binge episode.
But here is the wild thing…. it is really considered a binge because it involves eating more than usual AND the feelings that arise afterwards.
Most people envision a binge as being massive amounts of food being eaten in a hurried way but according to my podcast guest, psychotherapist Kaytee Gillis, it is the emotions that the eating creates that determines whether it is a binge or not.
On this week’s podcast, I interview Kaytee and we discuss:
- What a binge is and is not
- What is needed to treat binge eating disorder
- The connection between binge eating and childhood trauma
- The difference between coaching and therapy
- When to seek help from a therapist
- What to look for in a therapist when addressing binge eating
Kaytee drops so many “truth bombs” and I promise you, you will learn so much and come away with lots of things to think about as a result of listening.

BEE #110: Your Brain's Thoughts vs Your Own
Your brain is NOT always on your side.
It makes up stories.
It lies.
It makes you believe things about others and yourself that aren’t true.
Do you know what you have to do to stop these things from happening?
You just have to start questioning it, and know that your first thought regarding a situation is always your brain’s, but the second thought is yours.
Choose wisely!
But how do you do that?
In this week’s podcast, I take you through a process that allows you to differentiate between factual events that occurred in a situation, and the story that your brain tells you.
The story is always going to be inflammatory and usually makes you feel badly, so knowing when your brain is doing this to you is important to your overall peace and calm in life.
This strategy is just one of many that you will learn about when you are a member of The Breakthrough Membership, my monthly membership group that lays out a proven plan for addressing emotional eating and losing the extra weight that has become a result of your eating.
But this program is different from anything you have ever done before because it addresses the influence your brain has on your thinking about food, food choices, and it helps you deal with your thoughts about yourself. It is those thoughts that drive your decisions about what you eat and how much.
Learn how to manage your thoughts and responses to them and weight loss becomes easy.

BEE #109: Overcoming A Weight Loss "Stall" (Interview with Julie Pitts)
Losing weight is a long journey that is filled with up and downs.
Literally.
And when the “downs” or the standstills happen, it is easy to want to give up, decide that your program isn’t working, and go back to your previous eating habits.
It is in these moments of doubt that you need to have something to turn to to remind you of all that you are capable of doing, and in today’s podcast, one of my clients is going to share what that thing has been for her.
And how using this strategy has allowed her to successfully lose 86 pounds and keep it off despite a six month plateau.
On this week’s podcast, you will learn:
- The most important factor in weight loss (and it has nothing to do with food)
- How to have patience for yourself and your learning process
- What Julie did is get her weight loss moving again after not losing weight for six months
Part of Julie’s ongoing success is her participation in The Breakthrough Membership, my paid monthly membership program that provides community support, weekly group coaching calls, and courses to guide you through the process of changing your thoughts and beliefs about food and its place in your life. BEE #108: Member Q&A
One of the things I enjoy most about running the Breakthrough Emotional Eating community on Facebook is getting to answer questions about emotional eating and weight loss directly from our members. And the reason I love it so much is that I am usually the answers that I am sharing are not at all what people are expecting.
Let’s be honest….most people do not think that overeating, or craving certain foods, has anything to do with their thoughts and beliefs about themselves, but it has more to do with that than you know. And that is what I love the most….sharing that life-changing information with people.
On this podcast, I addressed a variety of questions from members and the majority of them always came back to one simple premise…..how are you thinking, feeling, and believing about yourself and if you don’t get that dialed in, you are climbing an uphill battle.
But how do you do that kind of work on yourself?
In this podcast, I outline what I offer to those people who are ready to look deeply within themselves to figure out why they overeat and how to change the ingrained thought patterns that aren’t serving their lives. The Breakthrough Membership is what I have created to educate and support those women who are wanting to change their relationship with food and themselves, and creating a life of normal eating habits and patterns.

BEE #106: Is Shame Keeping You From Your Weight Loss Goal?
We have all had it happen to us….
You go into a lunch, dinner out with friends, or a TGIF with colleagues with the best of intentions…you have been following your plan and feeling really good about your progress, and the scale is showing that this is working.
But at some point during your event, your mind wanders and suddenly you realized that you have had way more drinks than you intended and have eaten so far past satisfied that you don’t think you could recognize it if it came up and introduced itself to you.
Sad, frustrated, disappointed, and angry you return home that night and proceed to eat everything in your home, and you fall into bed feeling sick and disgusted with yourself.
Now here’s where the fork in the road appears…..do you wake up the next day and get back on track, or do you destroy yourself with shame and this stops being a one meal slip and transforms into a five day binge that results in a gain of six pounds?
The key to losing weight and then keeping it off in maintenance is the decision that is made in that moment.
If you are like most people, you take the road that leads to The Shame Cycle, and results in feelings of low self-worth and humiliation. This one slip could turn into a ten pound gain and a depression that is hard to recover from.
In today’s podcast, I am going to discuss how to identify when you have fallen into The Shame Cycle after a slip, and how to get yourself back on track and feeling good about yourself.
You will learn:
- The stages of the Shame Cycle

BEE #105: Stop Avoiding THIS and Lose Weight For Good
The diet industry wants you to believe that if you just change what you eat and move your body a little bit more, you will be able to lose the excess weight you are carrying around. And yes, that might happen but I can promise you that it will come back because the underlying reason that you gained the weight in the first place wasn’t addressed.
In Breakthrough Emotional Eating and The Breakthrough Membership, that is what we do…..we seek to find the hidden reason that you gained the weight, address that, and then go about losing the weight for the last time.
After working with hundreds of clients over the last five years, I have determined what that “thing” is that you are doing that results in overeating and weight gain, and in this week’s podcast I address it head on.
What do you need to stop avoiding in order to lose your excess weight and keep it off forever?
The answer is quite simple yet very complex….
Discomfort.
In this week’s podcast I break down why everyone needs to get comfortable with being uncomfortable instead of using food to avoid feelings that make us feel vulnerable, scared, and weak.
You will learn:
- Why your brain tells you to avoid these feelings and emotions at all cost and why you believe it
- How avoiding feeling badly directly impacts your emotional eating and your weight
- The steps you need to take to get yourself comfortable with feeling uncomfortable and how to begin the process of losing your weight forever
Today’s podcast is a game-changer because once you learn that you do not have to overeat to feel better and avoid the bad feelings, weight loss becomes so much easier.
To learn more about how to implement these concepts into your life in order to lose the weight you want forever, I have created my monthly membership, The Breakthrough Membership, to guide you through the process of understanding your brain and how it creates the thoughts that lead you to avoiding the uncomfortable emotions, and how you can change your own thoughts and start thinking, feeling, and acting in a way that will lead to a healthy relationship with food and the weight loss you desire.

BEE #103: The 5 Keys To Being Successful In The Breakthrough Method
For the last three months, I have provided new members to the Breakthrough Emotional Eating community on FB with a guide to follow in order to start following my program for emotional eating and weight loss. It has been incredible the number of members who are posting, participating, and losing weight.
It’s super exciting but I felt that it was important to provide members with just a bit more guidance on how to maximize their success in the program, and as a result, today’s podcast was created.
I want to share with you what I believe are the 5 keys to being successful using the Breakthrough Method of weight loss and emotional eating management, and get ready because these are like nothing you have ever seen when it comes to guidelines for success in a weight loss program.
And that’s because the Breakthrough Method is so different.
Instead of focusing on macronutrients, exercise, and food groups, the Breakthrough Method wants you to focus on:
- Emotions….it is called emotional eating after all
- Stop punishing yourself by making this a diet; it is a lifestyle
- Eating foods you love instead of making yourself miserable with “diet foods”
- Watching the words you are saying about yourself
- Staying connected to your support system to get you through rough patches
All of these are vital to remember but life just sometimes gets in the way and makes it really tough to remember exactly what you are supposed to be doing.
When it comes to your emotional eating and weight loss, you can keep going on your own, or you can find a guide…..someone who can help you get to where you want to be.
And that’s why I created The Breakthrough Membership….to be there to guide, support, encourage, educate, and inform you with exactly what you need to do to move forward in your management of emotional eating and weight loss.
No more guessing, instead your path is created and laid out for you to follow so your success is practically guaranteed. You have to show up and do the work but no more guessing what that work is.
If you are ready to take the next step and lose the weight you want and feel amazing around food, click here and learn how you can become a Breakthrough Woman.
