004 - Dr. David Hayes Bautista and Dr. Hector Flores - Covid 19 Pandemic and the Latinx Community
Our first podcast featured Dr Cesar Chavarria as he shared how the pandemic nearly destroyed him and his livelihood. As we surpass the one-year mark since a 35-year-old man presented to an urgent care clinic in Washington, which the CDC later identified as COVID 19, there have been 1.1 million cases in Los Angeles County and nearly 20,000 deaths. Latinx have the highest death rates per 100,000 with 288 compared to African Americans at 160, Asian Americans at 123 and Whites at 100.
For today's podcast episode we are featuring two guests, Dr David Hayes Bautista is a Distinguished Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture (CESLAC) at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr Bautista was a LACMA guest on a recent Race Against Time Zoom call with over 100 physicians to share his insights on how the pandemic has decimated Latinx communities. Dr Bautista is joined today by Dr. Hector Flores, LACMA board member and medical director for the Center for Hispanic Health at Adventist Health White Memorial and co-director of the Adventist Health White Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program. He co-founded and serves as medical director of Family Care Specialists Medical Group (FCS) and has more than 25 years of experience in medical education.

003 - Francisco J. Silva - Assembly Bill 890 Nurse practitioners: scope of practice bill.
Recently, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 890. The so-called nurse practitioners’ scope of practice bill. Among other things, the bill would authorize a nurse practitioner who meets certain education, experience, and certification requirements to perform as a physician does. This bill is so important , we are dedicating the entire 10-minute broadcast to share what’s next for physicians. Data has shown that physician-based care is the model that ensures the greatest patient safety and highest quality care for all Californians, regardless of income.
Joining us today is Francisco Silva, General Counsel at CMA who has graciously accepted our invitation to discuss the latest on AB 890, what every doctor needs to know and to counter misinformation.

002 - Dave Logan - When 'Pandemic Intersects with Burnout'
In a recent CMA study, nearly 44% of U.S. doctors reported one or more symptom of burnout, depression, or both. One in five doctors reported they’ll reduce clinical hours over the next two years, while one in 50 said they plan to quit medicine for a different career. Physicians are at 50%-300% increased risk for death by suicide compared to professionals in other fields. Physician burnout is costing the nation’s hospitals and health systems $1.7 billion per year, according to the National Taskforce for Humanity in Healthcare.
Our topic is about when 'Pandemic Intersects with Burnout'
Our guest is Dave Logan, CEO of Well Physician California, part of CMA’s effort to address burnout.
Before joining WPC, Dave Logan served as Chief Transformation and Innovation Officer for P3 Health Partners, a population health management organization, focused on improving patient outcomes through value-based care. He was the co-founder and Senior Partner of CultureSync, a management consulting firm that creates high performance through an alignment of strategy, structure, systems and culture and has been on the faculty at the University of Southern California since 1996, teaching in the Executive MBA, Executive Master of Leadership, and Master of Medical Management programs. He holds a Ph.D. in organizational communication from the Annenberg School at USC.
