What is a Podcast and How Does it Work? : Using Your Podcast as an Author, an Interview with Deshaun Williams pt. 2
In the last episode author and Leadership Coach, Deshaun Williams spoke with us about the very sensitive subject of suicide prevention through writing. In that interview, he gave us an account of his own experience with suicidal thoughts and how he overcame them and wrote his book The Greatness Within.
This week we are continuing our conversation with Deshaun Williams. I noticed during my talk with him that he was extremely enthusiastic about podcasting. That's when I decided it was time to help other authors explore, what is a podcast and how does it work.
Deshaun Williams Breaks Down for us How He Uses His Podcast Analytics and More
Deshaun Williams is no stranger to podcasts. In fact, he has one of his own called Dose of Empowerment in which he encourages leadership in young men. Deshaun's Podcast knowledge of branding and analytics is extremely helpful to other podcasters and we will dive into that in this interview with him. As a reminder, Deshaun is featured in Volume 1 of GEMS Magazine giving us insight into how to get your podcast show distributed to Amazon Music and Pandora.

Suicide Prevention Through Writing with Deshaun Williams: Plus Amazon Best Seller Advice
Author and Leadership Coach Deshaun Williams talks to us about the very sensitive subject of suicide prevention through writing. In this interview, he gives us an account of his own experience with suicidal thoughts and how he overcame them and wrote his book The Greatness Within.
During our interview, Deshaun revealed to me that he would like to become a best seller. That inspired me to give him an impromptu consultation on techniques I've used to become an Amazon Best Seller in my genre.
Deshaun Williams is no stranger to podcasts. In fact, he has one of his own called Dose of Empowerment in which he encourages leadership in young men. Creating Characters for Black History : An Interview with Author Matasa Davis
Author Matasa Davis helps us close out Black History Month 2022 with his book Highly Questionable Inspirational Tidbits: The Honorable Professor Rylo G. Gump.
Matasa has uniquely created a fictional character named Rlylo G. Gump who delivers life advice mixed with satire. He began using the character when he was invited to his old high school to teach Black History facts. As an author Matasa is fully committed to this character. He even dons a wig and faux mustache on the cover and in videos where the character Rylo shows up.
Matasa Davis has one of the more unique genres of books out there. He says his books are perfect for the coffee table, which I agree. I can definitely see them being given out as gifts. Matasa has started the gifting process by adding smiles to the faces of friends, family, and aspiring poets and writers with what he calls his love project.
"I don't care if I end up giving away more books than I sell, I did it for the love."~Matasa Da Poet Davis
One thing is for sure Matasa's interesting way of delivering Black History will never be dull to the young or old.
You can connect with Matasa Davis on all platforms under his social media handle Matasa Da Poet Davis

Eugenics in America: An Interview with Author Laura Hunter
This may be my most controversial interview yet! I'm interviewing award-winning author Laura Hunter, who recently released her book, Summer of No Rain. Being southern herself, Laura eloquently captures the southern culture of the 1960s in this fictional book based on real-life events. During her research as a writer, Laura Hunter stumbled upon a case of eugenics in Alabama made it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The government was using a secret drug to sterilize "certain" populations. As an author who endorsed this book personally, I found this information extremely eye-opening because the drug is still in use today, and I myself was offered it in the 90s. This is an interview you don't want to miss!
Laura Hunter's interview is also available inside of GEMS Magazine. After interviewing Laura I felt it was important to add my editorial thoughts to both the magazine article and at the end of this Podcast interview because we touched on some controversial topics and used some terms that many may be sensitive to, especially during the time of the airing of this interview, February - which is Black History Month. I asked Laura Hunter the direct question, "How do you justify (as some may feel you need to) being a White author writing about Black topics?" And she gave me her very frank answer.

Writing to Market
In its simplest form Writing to Market means to write what is wanted or needed by the customer or reader. It is building the marketing in before you even write or publish your book, thereby setting your book up for the highest chance of sales. In my opinion, Writing to Market means you're treating your Indie Author career as a business.
