Dead Man Walking: Is it time to set industry standards for the tech interview?
Alright Luvlies, this is a big topic. I'm talking about the dreaded tech interview and how you're a dead man walking even before you're through the door.
Can the interview process be streamlined to take the emotion out of it? Or will it be like dodge ball team picks 'til the end?
Grab a bev, find somewhere comfortable and let's get into it.

Not So Old Maid
Have you ever felt like you were being pushed out of your job because of ageism? Have you ever judged a woman by her age? Are you scared to turn 40 next year? All of these questions fall under the umbrella of Ageism. For many of us millenials/xennials/xers we are guilty of. But there is a strange phenomenon happening in the tech space and with new businesses where you'd be hard pressed to find a woman over 40 among staff. Why is that? Is ageism towards the 40+ crowd the new brown paper bag test? In this episode of Laney Luvs To Talk, I discuss my experience with ageism in the work place and how that effected my career. From being called old in my mid-twenties to watching older less qualified men get life changing promotions. I talk about the most dangerous thing in the room is a financially independent woman in her 40's. This podcast gets spicy so grab an old maid and let's qvetch.

Cycles of Productivity
The productivity discussion is such a male dominated space, that I was inspired by The Bliss Bean's video titled What most productivity advice doesn't tell you... to create this podcast. She touches on the what productivity means during your menstrual cycle. I decided to go a bit deeper and share my experience with productivity, my period, Adenomyosis and what it has meant for me as a freelancer.
Warning: This is a very candid podcast. If you are squeamish when it comes the discussion of shark week, this is not the podcast for you. But I think it's important to understand what happens to those of us who have very challenging menstrual cycles, and what we go through in order to get the job done. So join me for this uncomfortable but important story time.

Dear HR Gatekeepers...
Dear HR, you have a problem when it comes to the hiring of Black people that can easily be solved... simply get out of the way. This edition of Laney Luvs to Talk is a very personal one and addresses an issue very dear to me. I ask the important questions directed to HR employees of companies trying to keep up with critical culture changes in the work environment. I discuss my theories as to why BIPOC potential employees are not making it through the filtration process. It's a doosey but a welcomed conversation starter on the topic.

Am I a Hater?
Am I a hater? It's a genuine concern of mine when I peruse social media apps to check-in on my friends and acquaintances, and feel awful afterwards. Sometimes I think I'm going to be the friend that is left behind because I'm not keeping up. In this episode of Laney Luvs to Talk, I waiver between wanting to drop out of business all together to striving towards wealthy spinsterhood. It's been one of those weeks where I read books on understanding systems (specifically Thinking in Systems by Donella Meadows) and it got me thinking about my broken feedback loop and how to fix it. I also talk briefly about Texas' new law on what happens inside a woman's uterus and the chaos that might ensue. So come along for the ride!

Weaponized Incompetence: A Working Strategy
GWORLLLLLL the tea is hot this week! It's story-time on this episode of Laney Luvs to Talk where I share the tale of my brief, yet informative, stint at working for a c-a-n-n-i focused digital company.
Why was I the only woman there? And why was weaponized incompetence (a.k.a. strategic incompetence) the defacto method for getting things done?
I get into this hot topic of the week that is the world of strategic incompetence. Using some of Wildlin Pierrevil and Lyle Skrains thoughts as points of discussion, I encourage you to join in the conversation of the moment.

We Will Never Be Free
In this episode of Laney Luvs to Talk, I ask the question 'When will we be free?'.
As I set a networking challenge for myself in the previous podcast, I put my plan into action. Today's discussion was inspired by a networking event I attended that clarified Justin Tru's Black Entrepreneurship Loan Fund, my resolve to expand my community involvement and ... Britney Spears conservatorship. I know, I know... heavy stuff but they tie into one another, especially when you talk about connection, community and human rights.

Our Kind of Network
When it comes to networking, not going to lie -- I'm total trash at it. I didn't grow up in a church or cultural club environment, so I didn't see the point of connecting with others to get what I needed. In this episode 'Our Kind of Network', I talk about books that inspired thoughts on networking and the importance of safe spaces for communities of colour. How safety and connection have been in hands of the privileged for years, it hasn't been the case for many in the black community. I touch on policies, classism and other factors that come into play when you want to rise in your business.

In this episode, I chat about how I gather my inner strength, and what are the methods and tools I use to maintain my self-esteem during challenging times. And no, it doesn't always involve brown liquor or winking at random strangers at the gym. Have a listen as I share the art of subtle confidence building.
