Officials said there were also damaged buildings and knocked out power in some areas closer to the epicenter. All this happened on September 19th the same day that major quakes battered the country in 1985 and 2017.
Meanwhile, most of Puerto Rico is without power after hurricane Fiona roared over the Caribbean island. Wind and rain from the storm tore the roofs off the houses and stripped the pavement from roads.
Hurricane Fiona then moved to the Dominican Republic, where emergency officials reported downed trees and power poles.

Hey, it’s Kevin here. Before we jump in I’d like to just give you all a quick Trigger Warning: This episode contains racial trauma, discussions of violence against minorities, and other content that some people may find disturbing. Take care of yourself.
Mexican Americans were targeted and systematically abused by law enforcement, and people of Mexican descent were targeted and killed by mob violence and lynching. Signs reading “No Mexicans Allowed” dotted numerous restaurants and other public accommodations in Texas along the U.S. Mexico border. Juan Crow - refers to the laws patterned after American Jim Crow laws targeting African Americans, that enforced racial discrimination against Latino Americans.

#61 Black And Latino Students Disproportionately Bear The Burden Of The Student Debt Issue
Episode Description:
Today, 45 million Americans collectively owe $1.7 trillion in student loans. The failure by policymakers, regulators, and industry at every stage of the student loan lifecycle has driven nine million student loan borrowers into default, two million behind on payments and an entire generation of borrowers that have been left behind as student debt impacts their retirement savings, owning a home, forming a family, or starting a business. However, according to research, Black and Latino students with individual student loans disproportionately bear the burden of the student debt issue.

#59 Inflation Hurts Latinos And BIPOC The Most
Millions of minority households across the nation are facing distinct, serious financial problems during this period, including many who are being threatened with eviction and face unsafe conditions in their neighborhoods, with few options to help.
And when it comes to the Hispanic/Latino community, Latinos are substantially more likely than whites to report they are currently having serious financial problems. They are also more likely than whites to report not having enough emergency savings to cover at least one month of their expenses, more likely to have serious problems affording food, and having serious issues affording their mortgage or rent.

#58 First, Do No Harm: The US Sexually Transmitted Disease Experiments in Guatemala
In 1946 the United States government immorally and unethically and, arguably illegally engaged in research experiments in which more than 5000 uninformed and unconsenting Guatemalan people were intentionally infected with bacteria that cause sexually transmitted diseases. Many have been left untreated to the present day. And although US President Barack Obama apologized in 2010, and although the US Presidential commission for the study of bioethical issues for the Guatemalan experiments was morally wrong, little if anything has been done to compensate the victims and their families.
