S3 Ep 08 - Two Interviews with Rewards
1 May 2024
In this episode, Leadership of the Leaf had the pleasure of speaking with Mike S from Powstanie Cigars and Didi representing O M Cigars. The interviews were conducted during the PCA, so please bear with the background noise.
Mike S's interview served as a fantastic introduction to a remarkable cigar. His passion for his cigar company and its connection to building a legacy was wonderful to hear as he shared his insights. His no-nonsense approach to the cigar industry is commendable.
Didi's interview was equally amazing as she provided insights into OM Cigars and the pride they take in crafting exceptional cigars. It was delightful for Didi to share a couple of cigars with the hosts, both of whom, Austin and Dice, thoroughly enjoyed for this episode.
OM Cigars may be a boutique brand by name, but it smokes as though it has been in the industry for over a century. The fig flavors and just the right amount of spice develop perfectly throughout the cigar.
The leadership segment of this episode focuses on rewards and how far incentives should be pushed to achieve desired results. The pros and cons of rewarding a positive work ethic are up for debate. We delve into actions that may help improve production.
So, find a comfortable spot to relax, grab a drink, and your favorite cigar – this is an episode worth sharing.
S3 Ep 07 - Cigar Finish to Game Theory
15 Apr 2024
The Leaders of the Leaf in this episode discuss a viewer's question about cigar finishes. The "finish" of a cigar, crucial for assessing its quality, involves the lingering flavors and sensations post-puff, with its complexity and duration indicating superior craftsmanship from well-aged tobacco. The finish's flavor profile, varying with the tobacco blend and construction, significantly shapes a smoker's subjective experience and perception of the cigar. Ultimately, a well-defined finish enhances the smoking experience, serving as a critical indicator of the cigar’s overall quality and blend craftsmanship.
The cigar featured in this episode to help further explain cigar finishes is the Red Anchor by United Cigars. Known for balancing potency with complexity, Red Anchor cigars provide a potent yet flavorful smoking experience, with a combination of popcorn and cedar notes alongside rich espresso beans, sweet earth, barnyard, powdery cocoa, leather, and sourdough bread. Additionally, the retrohale features black pepper with maple notes.
The leadership segment transitions to game theory, a mathematical framework for analyzing strategic interactions among rational decision-makers who are aware of each other's potential choices and outcomes. It explores how participants can optimize their outcomes by predicting and countering the moves of others, often leading to equilibrium where no player can benefit by changing strategies unilaterally. Game theory is extensively utilized in economics, political science, psychology, and computer science to study both competitive and cooperative behaviors.
We've covered great topics in this episode and would love to hear the listeners' thoughts on cigar finishes and opinions about game theory. Grab a cigar and enjoy the show with your beverage of choice.
S3 Ep 06 - Habit or Hobby, Leaders Change
In this episode, Dice was asked a question about being a cigar enthusiast: is it a hobby or just a habit? As avid cigar aficionados themselves, Austin and Dice indulge in the exquisite Sun Grown by Rocky Patel, a highly acclaimed cigar boasting numerous ratings above 90. Known for its smooth, medium-bodied flavor with subtle hints of pepper and a delightful sweet finish, the Sun Grown is the perfect companion to welcome the arrival of spring.
Spring signifies a time for rejuvenation and renewal, often accompanied by the age-old tradition of spring cleaning. Inspired by this theme, Dice shares insights from the aforementioned question, outlining a series of behaviors that cigar aficionados would engage in as collectors or connoisseurs of finer smokes. Austin and Dice engage in a lively discussion, offering their perspectives on each hobby and habit, enriching the podcast with their unique insights and experiences.
Amidst the discourse on spring cleaning and cigar etiquette, the hosts unearth a poignant leadership quote attributed to John Kotter of Harvard Business School: "Management is about coping with complexity. Leadership is about coping with change." This powerful statement serves as the focal point for the episode's leadership discussion, highlighting the pivotal role of adaptability and resilience in effective leadership.
The hosts delve into the nuances of embracing change, emphasizing the importance of initiating transformation from within before influencing others. They explore how leaders navigate through periods of transition, both personally and within the organizational context, fostering an environment conducive to growth and innovation.
As listeners bask in the warmth of spring and savor their favorite cigars accompanied by a refreshing beverage, they are invited to partake in the enriching dialogue surrounding leadership and change. Whether seasoned leaders or aspiring ones, there's something for everyone to learn from this thought-provoking episode.
So, grab your favorite cigar, pour yourself a drink, and immerse yourself in the camaraderie of the podcast as you embrace the winds of change and the promise of a new season.
S3 SideBar 04 - St. Patty’s Day
Transforming into a tradition for Leadership of the Leaf, it's another St. Patrick’s Day Sidebar episode. In this episode, the hosts delve into the making of candela cigars. Once a staple for cigar smokers, it has now evolved into a tradition akin to drinking green beer or enjoying Irish whiskey: smoking a green cigar made with a candela leaf. Not to disappoint, the hosts are smoking a Founders Hamilton Candela. This cigar was presented to them at TPE, and what better time to enjoy a candela cigar than on St Patty’s?
The Hamilton Candela boasts an Ecuadorian candela wrapper with an Ecuadorian Habano 2000 binder. The filler blend comprises tobacco from three different countries: seco negrito from the Dominican Republic, Honduran seco piloto cubano, and viso corojo from Jalapa, Nicaragua. The hosts not only share information about candela cigars but also delve into details about their cigar of choice and share personal experiences surrounding this "Kiss me, I’m Irish" day. So, light up that green rolled tobacco leaf and pour out that Irish whiskey as the hosts share another Sidebar episode.
S3 Ep 05 - Cigar Cutters to Micro-Managers
15 Mar 2024
This episode begins with a focus on cigar cutters, delving into various types and techniques that some may have encountered or utilized before. The hosts are set to discuss preferences for certain cuts with different types of cigars. This discussion leads to the featured cigar of the episode, the Montecristo Platinum, which both Austin and Dice are smoking. The Platinum cigar boasts a dark, Mexican Cubano leaf wrapping and a blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Peruvian long-leaf fillers, providing a fuller-bodied experience than what most Montecristo smokers might expect.
While Austin sticks to his usual pairing, Dice opts for something more unconventional. The episode then transitions to a leadership topic centered around the irritation of micromanagement. The hosts share telltale signs of being a micromanager, whether it's yourself or your boss, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and avoiding this behavior. They recount relatable stories and events for their listeners.
Listeners are encouraged to follow along, perhaps indulging in a rolled tobacco treat paired with a beverage, as this episode promises to remove your cap.
LOTL FR FR, Take a Step Back
This episode begins by informing listeners about the overarching concerns of the podcast. The host shares a particular encounter with a sales rep that raised questions. The knowledge about the featured cigars not only enlightens the host but also the listeners as the information is passed on to consumers. Let’s remember that the hosts are also consumers themselves. While free cigars are appreciated, it's essential to remember they are provided for the podcast's sake; the hosts can always purchase their own cigars.
Speaking of cigars, Austin and Dice are enjoying the same cigar this episode: Te Amo by Altadis. The classic Te Amo features tobaccos grown in Mexico's San Andrés Valley, imparting an exceptionally woodsy flavor with deep notes of leather and spice. It's a cigar priced for everyone to enjoy. Will this resurrected classic receive the coveted box-worthy vote?
When the hosts engaged with the Te Amo representative, they realized the importance of taking a step back. This move is a leadership decision to ensure they don't proceed with blinders on, meaning not to focus narrowly on a single aspect of a problem. As leaders, they sometimes become hyper-focused on one thing and end up missing the bigger picture or the real issue. The hosts encourage future leaders to occasionally step back, enjoy a great cigar, grab a beverage, and let the podcast play through the speakers or headphones.
S3 Ep 03 FNG Build Trust
Episode three starts off with a journey through the eyes of a brand new cigar smoker. The avenues and adventures associated with the nuances of being new to the cigar culture. Fun times enjoyed by the freaking new guy. Questions were asked, lessons were learned, and time was well spent with the joys and relaxation of having a cigar.
During this episode, Austin picked up the Micallef Reata. The Reata is the mildest cigar in the Micallef portfolio. It is named after Al Micallef’s restaurant in Fort Worth, Texas. Subtle and complex notes of cedar, pepper, and smooth sweet tobacco. Dice is smoking a Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Twisted. The barber-poled cigar is not only eye-catching with notes of cedar, spice, and cashews but also falls into the mellow to medium-bodied cigar category.
The leadership segment educates the listeners on the importance of building trust. Trust is the foundation for many different relationships. The discussion of the pillars of success to build trust is explained, and examples are shared. The equation to define what trust means to the people as a leader is a valuable asset for leaders to understand. Breaking one's trust is not an option. TPE day 2
This Side Bar segment was recorded live at the Triple Crown Cigar Lounge. The audio is loud due to the presence of a DJ on site – a special shoutout to DJ Acir. Once again, this is an opportunity for Leadership of the Leaf to capitalize on the industry as they joined ZR Cigars for an event at Triple Crown Cigars. We would also like to express our gratitude to the staff at Triple Crown Cigar Lounge for allowing us to record on location.
This recording may be a bit challenging on the ears due to the background music. During this episode, the host discusses the events of day 2 at the Total Product Expo. Miguel from Crown Head Cigars continued to show respect to Leadership of the Leaf. The question of Casa 1910 cigars compared to Trinidad cigars was raised, as both seemed to be Mexican puros. For the record, Trinidad Cigars are not.
JM Cigars shared the concept of their cigars being the grab-and-go smoke because the cigar has already been punched for you. Kristoff shared insights into using Zimbabwe tobacco. Austin provided an on-the-spot interview for Cigars for Warriors. The Cigars for Warriors team at the booth was amazing, and we encourage donations to this charity due to the love they share for our military members overseas. There were a few celebrity sightings Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and Dennis Rodman.
The representative for ZR Cigars, Scott, stopped by to share some information about the cigars we were smoking. A friend of the host also joined the party to enjoy a ZR cigar with us. Amidst all the excitement at the end of day two, the host will continue with day three. Keep following to hear more.

"Leadership of the Leaf" shifted focus to cigars, starting with an interaction at the Drew Estate booth. The EP Carrillo booth delved into the history of their cigars, featuring a return of the Pledge of Allegiance cigar. Arista shared captivating stories about the Big Papi cigar lineup.
The first day concluded successfully, culminating in an industry party. Austin and Dice enjoyed a 20 Acre Farm cigar from Drew Estate, with their thoughts teased for the end. Stay tuned for day two highlights in the next episode.
S3 Ep 2 Walk the Walk with Cigar Don't

In this episode, we delve into the core of cigar aficionado wisdom, presenting five essential do's and five critical don'ts for cigar enthusiasts. The recanter of these insights opens the door for our hosts to share unique facets of their individual cigar journeys. Austin, sticking to his roots, opts for the classic Jacob’s Ladder by Southern Draw—a cigar that boasts a Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers, delivering delightful notes of cedar, spice, and coffee. Meanwhile, Dice receives a fan-gifted La Imperiosa by Crown Heads, featuring an oily Ecuadoran Habano Oscuro wrapper and a blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers. S2 Ep23 - Leaders to Managers that Re-humidify Cigars
15 Dec 2023 - In this episode, the host discusses the process of rehumidifying a cigar, emphasizing the importance of restoring and maintaining its moisture level for optimal flavor and burn. It's recommended to store cigars at 65-75% humidity, using a humidor or sealed container with a humidification device. Gradual rehumidification is crucial to prevent rapid moisture absorption, and monitoring with a hygrometer ensures levels stay within the desired range. Patience is essential during this process, which may take days or weeks. Over-humidifying should be avoided to prevent mold growth and maintain cigar quality. Prevention through proper storage in a well-maintained humidor is the best approach.
As the hosts discuss the rehumidification of cigars, they enjoy premium hand-rolled ones. Austin is smoking a La Galera Habano, and Dice is smoking a La Galera Connecticut, both by Jochy Blanco. The Connecticut offers flavors of espresso, cocoa, and toasted almonds, while the Habano falls in the medium-bodied spectrum but is full on flavor, featuring heavy notes of pepper, earth, wood, and a touch of fruity sweetness.
The episode also explores the transition from a manager to a leader, highlighting the shift from a task-focused mindset to one centered on inspiring a team with a shared vision. Key distinctions include managers emphasizing control and task efficiency, while leaders empower and innovate. Managers tend to minimize risks and focus on short-term goals, whereas leaders embrace calculated risks, take a long-term perspective, and encourage adaptability. Effective leadership combines aspects of both management and leadership, requiring strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and the ability to inspire and empower team members based on the situation.
Listeners are encouraged to enjoy the episode and accompany the hosts, Austin and Dice, as they share insights and put some smoke in the air.
S2 Sidebar 12 - Rules without Relationships
11 Dec 2023 - Rules in relationships serve as crucial guidelines and boundaries, shaping the dynamics between individuals in various contexts, such as romantic, familial, or professional relationships. These rules encompass key aspects like clear communication, mutual respect, trust-building through reliability and consistency, establishment, and honoring of boundaries, a willingness to compromise, and the importance of consent in decision-making. Loyalty and fidelity are often explicit in romantic relationships, and constructive conflict resolution, shared responsibilities, and providing support during challenges are integral components. It's emphasized that these relationship rules are not universal, as each relationship is unique, requiring open communication and mutual agreement to ensure a healthy and successful connection. Regularly revisiting and adjusting these rules is highlighted as essential for the continued strength of the relationship. Meanwhile, Austin is enjoying a La Galera cigar by Jochy Blanco, which is mellow to medium in body with rich flavors such as toasted almonds, cocoa, espresso, and floral notes. Dice, the host, is smoking the CLE PCA Exclusive 2023 cigar, drawn to its Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper covering a premium binder and filler from an unnamed farm in South America. As they savor their cigars, they engage in a candid conversation, sharing personal insights into rules and relationships. Listen to this engaging discussion and enjoy a great cigar.
S2 Ep22 - Spit take on Toxic Handlers
1 Dec 2023 - This episode delves into the intriguing relationship between saliva and the enjoyment of cigars. Have you ever found yourself smoking a cigar and suddenly feeling the need to spit? The episode explores this common experience, attributing it to the bitterness of the cigar taste and variations in saliva production among individuals. The hosts unfold the multifaceted role of saliva, not just as a catalyst for digestion but also as a safeguard for oral health, helping to maintain an optimal acid balance and protect against the less desirable elements found in tobacco. The discussion sheds light on the diversity of responses among cigar smokers, ranging from frequent spitting to minimal saliva production, and how different tobacco blends can influence these reactions.
During this episode, Austin is smoking the Navigator Pinzón by ADVentura Cigars. Caramel notes heighten this medium-strength robusto's spicy profile. Its Mexican San Andres wrapper cloaks an Indonesian Sumatra binder, and a Nicaraguan, Ecuadorian, and Dominican Republic filler. Dice is smoking the Avo Heritage Special. Avo Uvezian, a famous jazz musician, and cigar lover, and Hendrik Kelner, the cigar-making genius behind the Davidoff brand, worked together to create the elegant Avo Heritage Special cigar. Rich flavors of toasted nuts, cedar, oak, earthy chocolate, and white pepper provide a full-bodied experience that's so smooth it can be enjoyed by smokers of all experience levels.
Shifting gears, the episode also delves into the world of organizational leadership, specifically focusing on the crucial roles played by toxic handlers. Drawing a clear distinction between toxic handlers and toxic leaders, it outlines the problematic characteristics of the latter, such as self-serving decision-making and a lack of accountability. In contrast, toxic handlers emerge as unsung heroes voluntarily shouldering the emotional burdens within organizations, offering support and guidance to colleagues facing challenges.
The importance of toxic handlers in alleviating organizational pain takes center stage, with the narrative highlighting their roles as empathetic listeners, healers, and buffers against toxic leadership. From holding space for healing to extricating others from painful situations, these handlers play a pivotal role in maintaining a healthy work environment. The episode concludes by underscoring the growing need for toxic handlers, particularly in the face of expanding change initiatives and the prevalence of toxic bosses in the corporate landscape.

But beyond the exquisite flavors of Drunk Chicken Cigars, Desiree shared her valuable perspectives on leadership and mentorship during the episode, making it a well-rounded conversation that provides guidance to the listeners.
After the interview, the conversation shifted to the crucial topic of mentorship. For those aspiring to be mentors, she emphasized the significance of patience, listening, and providing guidance without imposing one's own ideas. For individuals seeking a mentor, Austin and Dice highlighted the importance of finding a mentor whose values align with your own and being open to receiving guidance. Mentorship, as pointed out, can be a complex journey, but Leadership of the Leaf insights made it clear that it is a path well worth traversing.

S2 SideBar 11 - Happy Armistice Day
11 Nov 2023 - Veterans Day is a solemn occasion for paying tribute to the brave men and women who have selflessly served our country, defending the freedoms and values we hold dear. It is a time to reflect on the sacrifices they've made and express our gratitude for their unwavering dedication.
In a similar vein, the act of enjoying a fine cigar is steeped in tradition and a sense of honor. Just as our veterans exemplify courage and commitment, the process of savoring a cigar demands patience, respect for the craft, and an appreciation for the finer things in life.
On this Veterans Day, let us not only honor those who have served but also draw a parallel between their dedication and the art of savoring a cigar. It's a moment to pause, reflect, and acknowledge the importance of tradition, honor, and the value of unwavering commitment in different aspects of life.
This special edition of the Side Bar episode of "Leadership of the Leaf" is a respectful salute to all the men and women who have served. The two hosts share information about veteran-owned cigar companies. The conversation turns into a discussion of the respect and honor that veterans deserve for the sacrifices they've given to this country. Austin is enjoying a cigar that may not have existed if it weren't for a veteran - the Saint Francis by All Saints Cigar. The All Saints Saint Francis offers a myriad of tasting notes, including chocolate, mocha, coffee, cinnamon, allspice, leather, and a hint of caramel, creating a full palate engagement from the first light to the last exhale. Dice is smoking a David Blanco cigar, the Primos Estate Selection. David Blanco is a veteran, and his father is also a veteran. With this cigar, it is a celebration of four generations of the Blanco and Plascenia family. They are proud to support veteran-owned companies. "Leadership of the Leaf" also features a special Veterans thank-you message from David Blanco himself. Great leaders smoke great cigars.
S2 Ep20 - Discovering Superhero Cigars: Unmasking Affordable Pleasures
01 Nov 2023 - In the world of cigars, every aficionado seeks that golden combination: high-quality cigars at an affordable price. For many, the magic number for a value-packed cigar is often set at ten dollars. In this podcast episode, the hosts present a list of ten cigars, each priced under ten dollars, to satisfy your cigar cravings. While the cigars are presented in no particular order, they all promise a delightful experience without breaking the bank.
As the episode kicks off, Austin is savoring the Charter Oak by Foundation Cigars. This cigar is among the top ten selections that prove you don't need to spend a fortune to enjoy a premium smoke. The Charter Oak offers a creamy flavor profile, accentuated by chocolate, roasted nuts, and a subtle peppery kick.
Meanwhile, Dice brings his own unique tale to the table with the Don Aguilera. This Total Wine & More exclusive, crafted by Rocky Patel, is a medium-bodied cigar that stands out with its spicy notes and hints of hickory and almonds. While it might not be part of the top ten list, Dice's choice illustrates the world of options available even within the affordable cigar market.
The episode takes a surprising turn, delving into a metaphorical comparison between the hunt for budget-friendly cigars and the allure of being a workplace superhero. While superheroes are revered in comic books and cartoons, they often fall flat in professional environments. The notion of being a superhero every day can lead to resentment among your team. The episode advises listeners to focus on becoming leaders who actively listen and communicate with their team members instead of constantly striving to save the day.
The episode concludes by exploring why superheroes are not a necessity in the workplace and presents a curated list of a few superhero cigars, all priced under ten dollars. These cigars prove that affordable options can be just as satisfying and impressive as their higher-priced counterparts.
So, the next time you're on the hunt for that perfect, affordable cigar, remember that you don't need superhuman abilities. Instead, you need the knowledge and insight to uncover those hidden gems in the world of cigars. Grab your favorite cigar, press play on this week's podcast, and let the hosts guide you through the journey of discovering budget-friendly cigar bliss. Enjoy your smoke, and remember that every puff takes you one step closer to becoming a true leader of the leaf.
S2 SideBar 10 - Prevention of Team Exclusivity
To foster inclusivity and prevent team exclusivity in an organization, clear communication channels, regular team meetings, diverse team encouragement, diversity and inclusion training, leadership example, team-building, rotating roles, open feedback, inclusive decision-making, mentorship programs, zero-tolerance for discrimination, anonymous reporting, and performance metrics are essential. Austin enjoys an Undercrown Maduro cigar with espresso and cashew flavors, while Dice smokes a budget-friendly Ventura Cigar, the Slaughterhouse. They engage in a conversation about social issues, inviting feedback via Instagram, the blog site, or email.
S2 Ep19 - Cigar Ads that ignored Risk Management
15 Oct 2023 - Vintage smoking ads from bygone eras often appear comically absurd today, portraying people confidently smoking cigarettes and cigars as if they held the key to eternal coolness. These exaggerated ads, depicting smokers in unlikely scenarios like visiting the doctor or becoming suave secret agents, serve as a reminder of how over-the-top advertising once glamorized smoking to an extreme extent.
In this episode, Austin's choice of cigar, the H. Upmann A. J. Fernandez, features a medium to full-bodied blend with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, Criollo ‘91, and Piloto Cubano fillers, offering a balanced taste with delightful hints of cocoa, spice, and roasted nuts. Meanwhile, Dice is enjoying The Banker Day Trader by H. Upmann, rolled at the renowned Tabacalera de García factory in the Dominican Republic. This cigar boasts a medium body, focusing on balance and delivering flavors of toasted cedar, an earthy core, and subtle notes of nuttiness and cream.
The selection of these fine cigars posed no risk management concerns, as they were great choices. While the study of risk management is often mentioned in leadership discussions but not deeply explored, the two hosts, both passionate cigar enthusiasts, aim to change that by sharing various insights on the subject. Risk management, in essence, is the process of identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks to minimize their impact on an organization's goals and objectives, involving the creation of strategies and contingency plans to protect against unexpected events that could impede success or result in losses.
Tune in to gain a deeper understanding of risk management, enjoy a laugh at vintage tobacco advertisements, and don't forget to savor a fine cigar. Feel free to share your thoughts on Instagram or via email.
S2 Ep18 - Mold vs Plume with Evidence base decision making (EBDM)
01 Oct 2023 - In this episode, join the two aficionados of the leaf as they delve into a captivating discussion about distinguishing between mold and plume in cigars, a topic that often leaves enthusiasts puzzled.
The dichotomy between mold and plume centers on the appearance of white spots or dust-like substances on a cigar's surface. In this episode, Austin and Dice enjoy a mold-free E.P. Carrillo Allegiance, a cigar known for its enticing flavors of spice, nuts, sweetness, and a subtle hint of black coffee, all wrapped in a medium to full-bodied blend.
Mold, as they explain, is a troublesome fungus that thrives in high humidity conditions, manifesting as fuzzy, often bluish or greenish spots on the cigar's wrapper. The presence of mold can significantly impact the cigar's flavor and aroma, rendering it unpleasant to smoke. Cigars affected by mold require careful inspection and, if necessary, cleaning or disposal.
On the other hand, they explore plume (or bloom), a natural occurrence where oils from the tobacco leaf crystallize on the cigar's surface. This phenomenon presents as a fine, white, powdery substance and is a telltale sign of a well-aged and properly stored cigar. Cigars displaying plume are often celebrated for their enhanced flavors and are considered safe to smoke.
The discussion extends to the topic of evidence-based decision-making, a methodical approach to making choices and solving problems that relies on high-quality, reliable information and data. Austin and Dice draw parallels between discerning mold from plume and the importance of relying on concrete evidence when making decisions in various fields, underscoring the value of objective, well-informed choices.
So, join them in this enlightening episode, light up your favorite cigar, and explore the intriguing world of cigar maintenance while gaining insights into evidence-based decision-making that can be applied across a spectrum of disciplines, from business to policy-making and education.

In some contexts, mediocrity may not be considered negative, as it implies meeting a minimum standard or being at an acceptable level. Incompetence, on the other hand, refers to a lack of ability, skill, or knowledge to perform a task or meet the required expectations. Unlike mediocrity, incompetence carries a more negative connotation because it suggests an inability to fulfill a specific role or responsibility adequately. S2 Ep03 - Crisis Management Picking the Right Cigar
S2 Ep03 - Crisis Management Picking the Right Cigar
15 Feb 2023 - Leaders need to work through a crisis, even if the crisis has to do with selection of the right cigar. Austin and Dice are smoking the exact same cigar this episode, it is a Leaf (Sumatra) by Oscar. You may have heard of Leaf by Oscar for their clever packaging — each cigar is wrapped in a raw tobacco leaf after it’s done being rolled. But if you’ve never tried one, let me assure you: this is not just a marketing gimmick! The tobacco perfectly encloses each cigar, protecting it from any sort of damage in the same way that cellophane would. Unwrap the leaf, and you’ll find a flawless presentation underneath. The Sumatra version of this boutique brand that is blended by Oscar Valladares, has a gimmick of not being wrapped in cellophane, instead it is wrapped in a tobacco leaf. Once the leaf is removed, it showcases a beautiful cigar underneath. The selection of this cigar may go unnoticed because of the wrapper instead of cellophane, the leaf wrapper has an appearance of horrible rolled cigar. This points out that the selection process starts with our eyes. Often cigar smokers rely on his or her experience level to guide them to a selection. Utilization of the tools provided to find the right cigar, this includes the tobacconist of the shop, podcast such as Leadership of the Leaf and the sense of adventure. Leadership during a crisis brings forth the right attitude towards different events that categorized as a crisis. What is difference between leadership and management in a crisis situation? What do, you as a listener, believe that a leader in a crisis moment should pay attention to first, use the link or comment on instagram (link).
