Making your Body A Home with Wendy Welsher
Wendy Welsher she/her CPT, etc. (there’s a list) lol

I’m a fat-positive personal trainer that specializes in functional strength and conditioning. I teach the foundations of functional movement, weightlifting, and power training, including safe practices and recovery methods, which my clients use in their everyday lives to improve their activities of daily living greatly. I live with ADHD, depressive disorder, and anxiety while in recovery from an eating disorder. I’ve experienced fatphobia and weight bias first-hand and understand how traumatic this is in a movement space. I can empathize with how it can affect one’s self-esteem, confidence, and body trust. This is why I created My Joyous Adaptive Momentous Movement and Joyful Inclusive Movement. I’m creating movement spaces that are truly authentic, accessible, inclusive, safe, and effective. It’s important to me to connect with my community through movement to show them how much fun it can be moving their body!

Weight Stigma & Down Syndrome
This a solo episode as I rant (a bit) about weight stigma at the intersection of neurodiversity--namely Down Syndrome. Individuals with DS often face dual discrimination--ableism and weight stigma.
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and as proud parent of your favorite homie with an extra chromie, I wanted to share a little story about how weight stigma makes it hard to get her the care she needs!
Join me as I chat a bit about what that can look like, why it happens, and what do to as parents, caregivers, and advocates to minimize harm.
And as promised, the names and resources I dropped: Alice Wong (@disability_visibility) is a disabled activist, writer, and media maker who founded the Disability Visibility Project, an online community dedicated to creating and sharing disability media. Emily Ladau (@emilyladau) is the author of Demystifying Disability and co-host of the podcast The Accessible Stall. Her Instagram account offers educational posts as well as a look into her personal life. Haley Moss (@haley.moss) is an autistic attorney, advocate, author, speaker, and educator. She uses her platform to teach people about the autism community. Imani Barbarin (@crutches_and_spice) is a disabled blogger, public speaker, model, and actress. Her Instagram is full of funny but educational videos about the disabled experience. Judy Heumann (@theheumannperspective) is a renowned activist who helped lead the disability rights movement. She works internationally, continuing to fight for these rights across the world. National Down Syndrome Society: The NDSS provides a wealth of resources related to health, education, and advocacy for individuals with Down syndrome. They may have materials or can direct you to resources specifically addressing issues surrounding weight, health, and wellness within this community.
National Association for Down Syndrome: NADS is known for its extensive resources for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. They might offer guidance on holistic well-being, including handling weight-related topics and combating stigma.

Sacred Spaces for the Most Marginalized Bodies with Angel Austin, Part 3
CW: fat shame, bias, eating disorders.
This episode, in a three part series, is a must listen for fat positive clinicians, therapists, coaches and lay people alike. Body positivity and fat liberation were once two sides of the same coin but as body positivity became hijacked and re-centered largely on thin-privileged, white women those in the most marginalized bodies on the size spectrum were left behind. This episode may be hard to listen to at times for some. But it is such a necessary topic AND the voices of those with this special lived experience need to be elevated.
Angel Austin is a gorgeous, educated Black woman who is disabled and in a larger body. She founded Sacred Space for Fat Bodies in an effort to centralize, mobilize, and support super- and infinifat women in every way. She is married and is a mom to a four-legged baby boy, Boomer. She resides in Austin, TX.

Sleep - A Resolution Worth Keeping!
Just a few tips on how to make sleep a health-promoting habit this year!

What are you hungry for?
In order to break free from the cycle of emotional or binge eating, it is crucial to understand how it differs from real physical hunger. This can be trickier than it sounds, because dysfunctional eaters have spent months or years perfecting the craft of using food to deal with feelings, and are typically completely out of touch with their body’s actual need for food or what that feels like.
Since emotional hunger is a powerful thing, it is important to assess the signs and take a deep look at your own behavior should you be looking to stop the cycle of emotional eating and binge eating. Not to be cliche, but knowing really is half the battle in developing health habits, and no other habit has the impact that eating does on your overall wellness!
