In The Tension

In The Tension

By Leticia O Adams
We have lost the ability to hold tension with one another and instead fall for the temptation to avoid difficult conversations and run to groups of people who agree with us rather than sit in spaces that hold tension that is part of the human condition. Sitting in the tension is also the way to healing.

Leticia and Laura: A Conversation with two Moms who survived the worst day of their life

In The Tension

How should Catholic parents handle their children coming out?
I have had a lot of conversations with Catholic parents who do not know what to do when their children come out to them. Having LBGTQ+ children is not something talked about much in Catholic circles. For awhile, I would sit in groups of Catholics who talked about gay people in the worst ways and I would keep my mouth shut knowing that I had a gay child. Then my oldest son died to suicide and I decided that I was not going to choose my Faith or my child. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says nothing about having to make that choice. I believe all the teachings of the Catholic Church and live by them, but I cannot make that choice for anyone else. Even my children. Anthony died as a self identified atheist with two children out of wedlock. If I trust God with Anthony's soul even knowing all the choices that he made outside of Church teaching then I have to do that with my surviving children. My only job is to be their mother. To guide them and love them but also to accept that they have the right to their own way in life, which will come with mistakes, sins, heartbreaks, joys and moments to celebrate. In this episode, I talk to Shannon Ochoa of Eden Invitation which is a group that helps young adults who identify as LGBTQ+ and Catholic find community and support. I hope you enjoy it. Lawyer Amber Webber Booker talks about activism, racism and being a Black woman in court
This week I have on Amber Webber Booker. I followed her on Instagram this summer and have enjoyed every minute of it. She is hilarious and also gives space for me to ask questions and I appreciate that. That is how I learn. But more than that, I love finding people who are easy to talk to about all the things from hip hop to legal jargon. Amber is that. I hope you enjoy this conversation.  You can support this podcast on Patreon or on Venmo @Leticia-Adams-10

Leticia and Laura: A Conversation with two Moms who survived the worst day of their life
Today's guest is Laura Kelly Fanucci who lost twin baby girls days after their birth. I reached out to Laura and asked her if she would come on and talk to me about grief, loss and life after seeing the story of Chrissy Teigen and John Legend losing their son Jack recently. Rarely do you hear two mothers who have lost children have a conversation. Most of the time it is a mother who has survived loss talking to someone who has not. So I felt there was space for us to have this conversation right now in this time with so much loss all around us. I hope it helps anyone who is finding themselves in the dark waves of grief and loss.  Laura Kelly Fanucci Mother, writer, wonderer. Seeker of God in chaos & life with kids. Author of Everyday Sacrament & Grieving Together. Glimpses of grace & gratitude. Instagram: Website:

Interview with Regina Boyd LMHC about Mental Health in 2020
I am so excited about this episode of In the Tension! I love therapy. I tell everyone I know that therapy is the best thing I have ever done. And I mean it. My therapist is one of my favorite people and I would buy her a house if I win the lottery. She has helped me so much in the last decade of my life.  So I am happy to have Regina on the podcast this week to talk about mental health, setting boundaries, and trauma.  Regina Boyd is the founder of Boyd Counseling Services, a Catholic/Christian licensed mental health practice that provides in-person and virtual therapy for couples, families, and teens. She works with clients who are experiencing life changes, desire a healthy emotional connection and seek to develop problem-solving strategies within their relationships. You can find her website here: And the link to her marriage course here: Also, I will be posting a bonus episode on Patreon discussing the things that I do personally to help myself cope with stress. I'll tell you the story of last weekend's meltdown and how I got through it!   Here is the link to my Patreon: I hope you enjoy this episode! Please contact me and let me know what you think.
