Climate & Public Health In Wisconsin
This event shed light on how climate change affects public health in Wisconsin. It highlighted the current initiatives aimed at curbing the detrimental effects of climate change, and examined ways to shield Wisconsinites from further climate-induced health risks. The discussion also included the recent revisions to air pollution standards and other measures taken by the Biden administration, which could potentially alleviate the climate impacts. Attendees were informed about steps they could take to accelerate progress in addressing climate change and its implications for public health.
Thank you to our inspiring speakers: Senator Jeff Smith (Wisconsin, District 31), Margaret Thelen (Climate and Health Program Manager, Wisconsin Department of Health Services), Katie Rosenberg (Mayor of Wausau, WI), and Kate Florek (Manager, Marathon County Health Department). We would also like to thank our wonderful moderators, Evey Mengelkoch and Erika Pietrzak (Change the Chamber).

Finding Your Climate Voice: A Vital Conversation With Deborah McNamara
In this episode of the "Let's Talk About Climate" podcast, former National Climate Fellow Will Felix talks with Deborah McNamara, Co-Executive Director of ClimateVoice, about the urgent need to strengthen climate policy and corporate climate action. They highlight a concerning trend: fossil fuel companies allocate over 50% of lobbying funds to obstruct climate progress, while the tech industry only dedicates 4-6% towards supporting climate policies. McNamara urges eco-conscious companies to boost advocacy, emphasizing ClimateVoice's impactful "Escape the Chamber" campaign.

Green Friday: An Anti-Black Friday Movement
In this episode of Let’s Talk About Climate, National Climate Fellows Meliya Soller and Alexandra Gonzalez have a conversation about “Green Friday”, in place of the long standing Black Friday craze.
They talk about the history and their own life experiences of Black Friday, and how we could better live sustainably by choosing to participate instead with Green Friday, an anti-Black Friday event. As overconsumption and consumerism continue to take a toll on our earth, we believe it is important and possible to hold onto values and actions that better our communities, rather than participate in wasteful and mindless shopping for the holidays.

Climate Wins In Michigan
To tout and celebrate the funding from the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and to discuss local implementation in Michigan, Change the Chamber hosted an educational webinar in partnership with the Climate Action Campaign. We presented how the IRA has benefitted Michigan particularly, with state-specific information about investments and projects made possible through IRA and IIJA funding and regulations. We also discussed present and upcoming opportunities to continue the progress these bills have created, focusing on achieving the science-based climate target of 50% greenhouse gas emissions reductions by 2030 and improved environmental justice.
Thank you to our excellent speakers, Aaron Petykowski (Climate Action Campaign), Dionna Brown (Black Millennials for Flint), and John Freeman (Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association), for their valuable presentations and discussions. We would also like to thank our wonderful moderator, Will Felix (Change the Chamber). This event greatly benefitted from all of your contributions and your crucial work and experiences.

Empowering Communities: A Conversation On Environmental Justice With Jennifer Cardenas
In this episode of “Let’s Talk About Climate”, our Change the Chamber fellow Alexandra Xochil Gonzalez-Edgar (she/her) sits down and talks with Jennifer Cardenas (she/ella), a national campaign and grassroots organizer within the green non-profit sphere. Jennifer lives in Southern California’s Inland Empire, specifically Fontana.
In this episode we talked to Jennifer about the lived life experiences of frontline communities, which are communities that experience the most immediate and worst impacts of climate change and are most often communities of color, Indigenous, and low-income. Not only is Jennifer a person of rich and vast life experience, but she has also dedicated herself to working within social impact efforts, specifically working in the intersections of climate change efforts as an organizing representative for a national nonprofit organization.

Diving Into Baltimore’s Water Crisis
Baltimore is a 62% Black port city on the coast of Maryland. It is the most populous city in Maryland and is the home of more than 200 neighborhoods and a city famous for its historical landmarks, excellent seafood, and tourist attractions. Its history stretches back to the 1700s, with redlining creating a cycle impacting public works, housing, and planning in the city that has been detrimental to the city’s majority-Black population. In this episode of Let’s Talk About Climate, National Climate Fellows Will Felix and Erika Pietrzak talk with Baltimore water quality experts Tom Pelton & Darin Crew about why the poor water quality in Baltimore is such an epidemic, and what can be done to fix it.
