Season 2 Episode 4: Social Justice
We’ve seen a significant increase in social justice efforts both locally and nationally throughout the past two years. From civil rights to a global pandemic, we’ve hit a turning point and many have launched into action as a result. Today, we’ll be discussing social justice efforts with several guests who have been in the trenches doing this work for years. How do we maintain momentum and continue to make progress? 25% of Wichita State’s undergraduate population consists of adult learners. In an effort to elevate the experiences of this population we’re going to spend some time listening to the their unique voices and discussing the support Wichita State offers for adults returning to school. Episode #8: The Student Athlete
This is our final episode of the first season of "Let's Talk About It”. It’s been a journey that we’re honored to have shared with you. In this episode we’re looking at the unique experience of student athletes. How do they deal with the pressure and publicity that comes along with the student athlete experience? How do they foster both the athletic part of themselves but also everything about them that isn’t their sport? Here to break this down with us are:
· Dr. Mike Ross, assistant professor in the Department of Sport Management and coordinator of the E-Learning program
· Sarah Mathews, Director of Compliance for the WSU athletics department
· Rachel Johnson, junior Sport Management major and WSU basketball player.

“Leadership” is one of the most often used, and possibly, the least understood term in businesses and organizations today. What does it mean to be a leader? Do you have to be in a position of authority to lead? What makes a good leader? Why is it even important?
“Let’s Talk About It” is tackling all of these questions by exploring the concept of leadership, as it exists on the Wichita State campus. Today we’re diving deep with three wonderful guests who practice leadership daily on our campus:
- Dr. Aleks Sternfield-Dunn – Director & Associate Professor in the WSU School of Music and WSU Faculty Senate President
- Dr. Voncella McCleary-Jones – Associate Dean for Academic Affairs & Associate Professor in the WSU College of Health Professions

This month's episode of "Let's Talk About It" dives deep with a discussion about imposter syndrome and what it feels like to navigate life as person of color on a predominantly white college campus. This episode brings to the table Danielle Johnson, Asst. Director of the WSU Office of Diversity and Inclusion; Cameron Morgan a junior Integrated Marketing and Communication major and Hannah Jasinski a senior majoring in sport management.

Episode #3 - Financial Literacy
This month's episode of "Let's Talk About It" tackles the important issue of financial literacy and what that means to college students. We've invited Sheelu Surender, Director of Financial Aid at Wichita State and Alexus Scott, Financial Aid Adviser and Outreach Coordinator to talk through some of this with us. Then, as always, we had to learn about this topic from the student perspective so we sat down with WSU students Trang Bui and Kevin Dao to talk about what final literacy means to them and what role it has played in their college careers. In this episode we explore wellness from a multi-faceted vantage point. Episode #1 - First Generation College Students
In this inaugural episode we are highlighting the first generation student experience at Wichita State University. This episode leads with a discussion with Kaye Monk-Morgan, Interim Vice President for Regional Engagement and Economic Development. She talks through the advocacy efforts and resources available on our campus to support our first generation population. After that, Jessica and Bobby had the opportunity to sit down with two current WSU students who identify as first generation. Taylin Fox, a senior in Sport Management and Tony Ibarra, a senior in Mechanical Engineering share their candid experiences with us and what it means to them to be the first in their family to attend college.
