Failing Awesomely

By Lindsey Garcia

I'm Lindsey Garcia and I have a desire to share my stories of failure, yes, failure- in business, relationships, and while chasing big, BIG dreams. To say I've taken a lot of risks in my life would be an understatement. Here's the thing, in every failed attempt, there are multiple lessons to be learned. And coming out on top is not only possible, but I can almost guarantee it.
Hey, if you fail, that's okay! Learn from it and turn it into something awesome.

50. From Heartbreak to Heart Change: My First Year As A Breast Cancer Survivor

50. From Heartbreak to Heart Change: My First Year As A Breast Cancer Survivor

Welcome to the Failing Awesomely Podcast! We've reach episode 50! Wow. Thank you all so much for taking a little time out of your week to spend it with me. Your support means so much to me as I have, very vulnerably, been sharing my story and my friend's stories for 50 episodes now.

When I started this show, I had a very different picture of the types of stories I would share, my own included. Then the toughest period of my life hit: I lost a baby at 12 weeks pregnant just two months into releasing this podcast. Two months after the tremendous loss of our precious angel, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fast forward further to December of 2020, I realized I had been deep into Mommy Wine Culture, drinking what I thought was a "normal" amount, oblivious to the fact that I was on a downward spiral of drowning out pain and joy in my life and it was never going to get better until alcohol was completely out of my life. So, you guessed it, I became sober!

The Failing Awesomely Podcast transformed naturally, but without me giving it much thought to how I need to structure my show. I will be taking the rest of the year to figure out how I want to move forward with the podcast from here and try to chisel it to what I know it can become. My goal is to HELP people who may be struggling with the same things I have and lead them to relying on the Lord while in the mess that is life sometimes.

Stay tuned for BONUS episodes to come from now through the rest of 2021!

Much love and God bless,

Lindsey Garcia

47. The Sassy Sober Life with Sarah Levy

Welcome back to the Failing Awesomely podcast! I'm Lindsey Garcia and today I have the privilege of sharing with you my awesome interview with Sarah Levy from thesassysoberlife.com. In this episode, Sarah shares her story of being in and out of recovery from alcohol addiction for the past 10 years and how she went from believing she was a failure to finally feeling free in her recovery journey.

She talks about the problem surrounding the stigma of addiction and how that can keep people stuck in the suffering for so long, herself included. But Sarah found relief and a calling when she was open and honest about her sobriety to herself, to her friends and family, and to this amazing online community she built on instagram- @sassy_sobriety32.

The sober community has been deeply impacted by Sarah in such a short period of time and I can't wait for y'all to hear our time together. Sarah is so relatable, down to earth, fun, and entertaining. You're going to love her!

46. The Layers of Motherhood and Miscarriage with Karen Higbee

46. The Layers of Motherhood and Miscarriage with Karen Higbee

If you've experienced a miscarriage, you fully understand what Karen means when she refers to accepting that, "What is meant to be and what you want are not always the same thing."

We get real, we get raw, we get vulnerable about the pain, the grief, the guilt, and the hope of experiencing a miscarriage. Our mission is to be so open about this that it makes the listener who has gone through the same pain feel comforted, understood, seen, and heard. And for those of you who love someone who has experienced the loss of a pregnancy, this is a great episode to help you better understand what they're going through when they can't find the right words.

We encourage you to lean on your support system if you have recently experienced a loss. Therapy is an amazing tool as well. If you find it difficult to lean on the people around you, we're here. Message us:

45. What Are My Intentions? // Hear My Heart

45. What Are My Intentions? // Hear My Heart

I've been thinking a lot about my intentions for this show: to share my story and others stories, to help people who may be going through similar circumstances. And to lead anyone who is open to better know Jesus and how he saved my life and can save theirs. Thats my mission. Using a combination of the gifts God gave me and the past pain I've faced for GOOD to bless others. It's a mission I'm happy to live out, but I question myself all the time. I question how others think of me and my mission. I question what I'm doing as a wife, a mother, a Christ follower, a sister, a friend, a daughter. I listen to the lies that Satan plants in my mind about running this race God laid out for me.

Do you struggle with this too? If so, this episode is for you.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 - So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

43. Numbing the Pain AND the Joy with Deb Podlogar - Mocktail Mom

This week, I chat with a *new* dear friend, Deb Podlogar, known as @mocktail.mom on instagram for her fabulous mocktail recipes and AF (alcohol free) drink recommendations. Deb hosts an instagram LIVE show called, Making Friends and Mocktails, every Monday night at 9PM Est. (but don't worry, if you can't make the LIVE, she always posts the episodes so you can catch up).

Deb is a wife and mom to two girls and lives in Kentucky. Her sobriety journey started December 31, 2020 and she's been a wonderful inspiration ever since. I could not believe when Deb and I found one another on instagram that she is also a breast cancer survivor!! To say we have some things in common would be a huge understatement.

I know you are going to love this episode, especially if you are someone who is sober curious or evaluating your relationship with alcohol. This episode is for YOU!

42. When your State catches up to your Standing | Death, Dying, Salvation, and True Joy with Kate Trauger

42. When your State catches up to your Standing | Death, Dying, Salvation, and True Joy with Kate Trauger

1 Corinthians 15:31 -

"I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily."

Death. It's all around us, but we don't like to think about it. We are fearful of it. It has an earthly sting we do not want to come near us, not yet anyway. But when we have salvation through Christ, why are we so afraid? Isn't eternal life the beautiful goal? Now death HAS no sting, right? So it's in the dying, the unknown, the wonder, that we tend to be afraid. But that IS this life: suffering, happiness, broken bones, healing, betrayal, love, death, life. We cannot escape it, but we can embrace it as Christians and when we can do that, THAT is when we discover what true joy is here on earth.

We hope you can learn something while listening to this episode and think a little differently about when the time comes that you might leave this earth and how you may change the way you live for today- for this moment.

As always, I'd love to hear from you! I'm an open book. Be well, be awesome.

41. "Kindness and hard work doesn't have a race, an age, or gender." -Talia McKinney, Million Dollar Listing

This week on Failing Awesomely, I had the opportunity to chat with Talia McKinney, who you may know from the Bravo show, Million Dollar Listing New York. Talia is a real estate agent on the Ryan Serhant team, host of the youtube show "3 In A Million", Ted X speaker, and Achilles International volunteer. We chat about her journey to moving and working in NYC and how she started her real estate career on the Serhant team just TWO years into her career. Her kindness and authenticity is a beautiful and rare thing, especially in a field as competitive as real estate, but Talia has gained so much success by being her true self and caring for her clients on a deep, personal level. Even though she has a very demanding schedule, she makes times to give back every week through her volunteer work. I learned SO much from Talia and her formula for success = kindness + hard work + genuine authenticity.

Welcome to the Failing Awesomely podcast! I’m your Host, Lindsey Garcia, and I’m so excited to share my interview with one of my best friends, Rachel Bradshaw. Rachel is an incredible singer and one of my favorite songwriters. She is the daughter of the one and only, Terry Bradshaw, and star of the new hit reality show, The Bradshaw Bunch, on E! On today’s episode, we talk about how we met on another reality show over 14 years ago when we both lived in Nashville. Rachel shares her story of huge success in the music industry and being on top of the world, only to go through one of the greatest losses any of us could ever experience. She talks about leaving Nashville and music all together to come home to Texas and start over. The beauty in all of this is that she found healing with her family and new purpose as she found her way back to making music, this time, completely her way and on her terms.

37. "I'm Martha if she was a squirrel" // Starting Your Day Like Mary

In this week's episode of Failing Awesomely, Lindsey Garcia shares how her experience with anxiety and a possible panic attack landed her in the hospital this Good Friday and how that's led her to really ask Jesus, "Where is the balance?" The answer is simple, but easier said than done.

Join Lindsey in trying to start her days like Mary, instead of being consumed about her long list of things to do and the worries and fears of the future, like Martha.

Visit DRINKNOPE.com and enter code FAILINGAWESOMELY for 15% off your first order of NOPE beverages now through March 8th 2021.

Thank you so much for joining us for another episode about the "Mommy Wine"/Alcohol Culture we live in. Mini and I have had many conversations in recent months about how we are targeted as women not only by wine and spirits companies, but by a society that believes alcohol to be an acceptable, regular part of our daily lives, not just in moderation, but in excess. For some of us, not all, but some of us, that can easily lead to addiction. Our goal is to educate people and change the narrative so that sobriety is no longer seen as a social death sentence and also so that it's not viewed as just a group of alcoholics. Sobriety is simply a healthy lifestyle, sans alcohol.

We discuss our research connecting women and alcohol through our favorite quotes from the books, "Quit Like A Woman" by Holly Whitaker and "Drink" by Ann Dowsett Johnston.

31. The Luxury of Self Care with Ahnastasia Albert

31. The Luxury of Self Care with Ahnastasia Albert

Lindsey had the pleasure of sharing her conversation with professional theatre performer turned yoga instructor and podcast host, Ahnastasia Albert. Ahnastasia takes us through her journey pursuing her successful musical theatre career in LA, NYC, and so many other cities in between.

This newly engaged bride-to-be started her brand and podcast, The Luxury of Self Care, in the spring of 2020. As we all were realizing the pandemic wasn't stopping anytime soon, Ahnastasia found herself wanting to connect with people posing the question: What's stimulating you? Which became her first episode of The Luxury of Self Care.

We talk about the importance of taking small bits of time to practice mindfulness, even 5 to 10 minutes, just focusing on your breath everyday and the impact that has on your productivity and your overall mood. Self care can be and sometimes should be simplified and Ahnastasia has some excellent tips to get us started.

In her podcast intro, she reminds us that finding luxury in our lives begins with taking care of Y-O-U.

30. My Mother-In-Law, Sylvia Elizabeth Garcia // A Gift For David

As we mourn two years without my beautiful mother-in-law, Sylvia, I wanted to do something special for my sweet husband who misses his mom so very much. We know she is perfect with Jesus in Heaven, but those of us left on earth long to be with her. This episode is a tribute to the amazing woman she was and a gift for my David.

29. When Friendship Is Worth It with Amanda "Mini" Canter

29. When Friendship Is Worth It with Amanda "Mini" Canter

This week Lindsey and Mini share what they've learned in their 17 year friendship. They've had their fair share of ups and downs and even went years without talking. Sometimes we think that friendship will get easier as adults, because with age we mature, right? But what about when your friend is career driven and you're starting a family or vice versa? What about those times when you aren't on the same path in life at the same time? Do you drift apart or do you fight for the friendship?

And what about difficult friendships? When are these devoted relationships worth fighting for? Mini and Lindsey talk about IT ALL and more in this weeks episode.

Psalm 139:23-24 - Search me, God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.

27. We Took Down Goliath...Now What? // Life After Cancer and The Pursuit of Dreams with Rebecca Masdon

27. We Took Down Goliath...Now What? // Life After Cancer and The Pursuit of Dreams with Rebecca Masdon

In this weeks episode, we got our girl Rebecca Masdon back on the show to share more wisdom, this time on life AFTER cancer. We didn't expect the after shocks of slaying our Goliaths while trying to control our emotions in the process. Did I mention we're both on hormone blockers? Yikes! Haha.

Rebecca is a wife, business owner, activewear designer, and 2020 breast cancer survivor! Woot! One thing Rebecca said that really resonated with me this episode was, "Walk it off, kid. You're better now. Time to put your non-cancer big girl panties on." She was referring to the way she felt her loved ones viewed her new life after surviving cancer and it hit home for me. As much as we want to, it's easier said than done to simply walk away from our battles we just won. But as I've learned from Rebecca, we are not the sum of our earthly circumstances. We are sons and daughters of God and Christ alone is who we find true life and freedom in.

Rebecca launches her first set of leggings from her activewear line, SR Sport, this Saturday January 30th 2021 at 2PM eastern (1PM cst).

22. How Do You Love People?

22. How Do You Love People?

How do you love people? I don't mean YOUR people. How do you love strangers? The grocery store clerk? The comcast customer service rep? The amazon delivery driver?

How do you love people that are different than you? People with disabilities or of a different race? People of a different religion or political party?

In the aftermath of recent events, Lindsey keeps asking herself this same question, asking God to search within her to find any offensive way in which her heart does not align with His.

19. The Man On the Roof // I'm Sad and Need Grace // Recapping the 5 Day Challenge

Lindsey spends time recapping the 5 Day Challenge and details her experience. God brought to light something HUGE for her that was convicting and "disgusting". But, thank the good Lord that where we fail, he gives us grace.

With her husband going back to work until she's finished chemotherapy, Lindsey's emotions are at a low point and she confesses the inner struggle of wanting the holy spirit to be alive within her, while the flesh finds everything to be brutally unfair.

Don't be like the "Man On the Roof". Be smart, y'all.

18. I Don't Want To Get Comfortable...Again // Failing God // 5 Day Challenge

18. I Don't Want To Get Comfortable...Again // Failing God // 5 Day Challenge

Do you get too comfortable with the world that you let the world have the #1 spot in your life where God should be?

JOIN ME in this 5 Day Challenge (starting May 7th 2020 for those listening on release day- ANY TIME for those listening at a later date):

Day 1: Think about and write down the times you've been closest to God in your life.

*Give yourself time and take the day to think about it and be honest with yourself and God. Have you been closest to him during hard times? Or have you been closest to him mostly in good times? Maybe a little of both?

Day 2: Think about and write down why you think with each period of time, you ended up letting your relationship with God go a bit- putting God on the back burner.

Day 3: Take time today to write down the relationship you want to have with God. Take away all the reasons (excuses, more like it) going through your head that make you think it's impossible. If you had an abundant amount of time to give and invest in your time with the Lord, what would that look like to you? Really go FULL OUT with this one and don't hold back.

Day 4: Think about and write down the people you make the most time for on a daily (or almost daily) basis in your life. Your spouse, your kids, your best friend, your parents, and so on. Whoever it is, write their names down and beside each name, write down how often you communicate with them per day (average) and what that relationship looks like.

*What do these relationships mean to you? They're bound to have their ups and downs, but the amount of time put into these relationships creates an unbreakable bond that can weather the fiercest of storms if you treat them right and put forth the effort that they deserve.

*Don't you think your relationship with God would be even better if you put that kind of effort into being present with him?

Day 5: The final day. Take today to, as best you can, live out what you wrote down on Day 3. If it's really over the top, do the best you can to treat God like he's one of the most important people in your life. THE most important person.

*Take him through your day. Invite him in to the good, bad, and ugly!

*At the end of the day, write down how you feel. Did making time for God hinder your work? Or motherhood? Did it derail your plans or prevent you from giving time to your other relationships?

*Or was it all okay? Did it feel really good? Did you sense God's presence in the way you handled the events of your day? Did he influence your decisions? Your demeanor?

15. Breast Cancer RECAP: For Those Who Don't Like Long Podcasts

15. Breast Cancer RECAP: For Those Who Don't Like Long Podcasts

From Lindsey: "I've received a lot of messages lately asking about my cancer and if I need chemo or not, or questions about why I need chemo since my doctors initially thought there was a good chance I wouldn't. I realized that I've primarily used this platform (the Failing Awesomely podcast) to give every little detailed update, but haven't posted on social media to update those who don't have the extra 25-50 minutes to listen to a detailed podcast. I decided a quick cancer recap episode might be best for those who have a shorter amount of time, but are really interested in knowing what's going on. I said at the beginning of the episode that I was going to try to make it 10 minutes or less, but it's really hard to cram in over 2 months of someone's cancer journey in such a short amount of time. I did my best and know that the 14 minutes is worth your time. Promise. Thank you all so much for coming on this journey with me, especially for your prayers and support. Love y'all. - Lindsey"
