Avoid clergy abuse during 16 Days of Activism and beyond
Avoid clergy abuse during 16 Days of Activism and beyond
Sandy Phillips Kirkham is a survivor of clergy abuse. He was 30 married, with two children, and at the age of 16, her youth pastor. The abuse lasted for five years. For 27 years she remained silent living with guilt and shame. A trigger forced her to face her past. That is when the healing began. Part of that healing meant facing her abuser after 27 years. Hiring a private detective she found him still ministering in a church in Alabama. Her journey was not an easy one but she is now a survivor and an advocate for other victims. She shares a message of prevention by helping people to understand the mind of a predator and the tools used to groom, manipulate and gaslight their victims and provides a greater understanding of the dynamics of abuse and the damage done when one suffers at the hands of a so-called clergy. She serves on the board Of The Council on Child Abuse, is the interdenominational spokesperson for The Hope of Survivor's ministry, and is a sought-after speaker and podcast guest. She resides in Cincinnati with her husband of 43 years and their two dogs. Combat Domestic Violence in Southeast Asia during 16 Days of Activism and Beyond
Born in Bangladesh and married at the age of 28. Elita Karim was hit by her husband on their honeymoon, a pattern that repeated itself throughout their two-year marriage. She found the strength to leave her abusive relationship and has gone on to support other women who are suffering at the hands of violent husbands. She believes that raising awareness of domestic violence is the first step towards ending a societal problem that affects millions of women and girls worldwide. After divorcing her husband, she went on to earn an MBA at a university in the UK. and now lives in Singapore and works in finance as a Management consultant. Elita has recently done a TEDxTalk on "How to Combat Domestic Violence in Southeast Asia". What helped Elita in the process of leaving her abusive husband was (i) opening up about her situation with family and friends (ii) asking for support when she needed and (iii) creating a vision of the 'better life that she believed she was worthy of. In the years following her divorce, she worked deeply on her personal transformation and took up practices of forgiveness, gratefulness & dream building- all of which led her to the beautiful life that she is now living. Innocent man incarcerated for ten years shares his story of hope and freedom
A life coach, author, and motivational speaker with a unique and horrific story. A successful self-made Zimbabwean businessman, Rusty Labuschagne was in 2003, without a body and against police evidence, wrongly convicted of drowning a fish poacher.  He spent 10 harrowing years under horrendous conditions in Zimbabwe’s prisons during Mugabe’s rule. The conditions were unbearable and he had to draw on his inner resources and strengths to endure the unimaginable. ' His message to audiences is that everyone is faced with challenges, but it is who you are, and the depth of your determination, that will get you through life’s darkest moments. Dr. Robb Kelly "It's not the drinking, it's your thinking" overcomes alcohol dependency
Dr. Robb Kelly has overcome homelessness, alcohol dependency, trauma, PTSD, and MDD and a whirlwind of events to be the "Gordon Ramsay" of the addiction treatment world. Before Robb succumbed to addiction and mental health issues, he played bass guitar at Abbey Studio with Queen, David Bowie, and Elton John. He is an accomplished musician, and the money he made helped him attend Oxford University to pursue a Ph.D. in Psychology. Robb experienced a spiritual awakening on the cold streets of Manchester while homeless and in dire straights. He loves to say that it's not the drinking, it's your thinking. From hating her body and putting it through hell to appreciating it and being grateful for it.
Some of Amanda Hallam's earliest memories are of hating her body. She developed orthorexia and then anorexia as a young teen. In college, she became a binge eater. For years she would find herself relapsing into any one of the three disorders in times of stress, change, or negative body image. She considers herself recovered now. Amanda eats mindfully and intuitively and uses food and movement to manage her depression and anxiety (She has been completely off of medication for 4 years now). She meditates regularly and became a Reiki practitioner because energy healing was so important in her journey. Amanda's mission is to change conversations about eating, body image, and mental health. she believes that by interrupting the generational narratives, we can create better lives for children and teens so that they don't have to experience the same struggles that she and so many others had. Her message is that no matter how far away body acceptance and love may seem, it is possible for everyone! Amanda talks about the concept of body neutrality, which is a bridge out of negative body image when body positivity feels too far away and encourages you to focus on what your bodies can do, rather than just what they look like. A teenage punk rocker, turned tattoo artist, artist, and author survives homelessness, cancer, and more.
A teenage punk rocker, Dan Henk was kicked out of home and slept in the woods with a rock as a pillow for eight months. He was stabbed and his tendon was severed by a crackhead. He put himself through art college, moved to NYC to start a career, and then came down with brain cancer. Seven years later, after being supported by his new wife as he went through five years of chemo, radiation, and recovery, she was killed in a hit and run. He moved to Austin and was writing his first novel. A young lady plowed into him while texting and he woke up four hours later in the hospital. Moving back up north, he was driving in PA when suddenly a massive construction patch (with no warning signs) appeared after a curve in the road and his FJ40 spun out, flipped, and dove into a tree off the road. The vehicle was completely totalled, and he woke up in the woods. Regardless of all this, he kept trying to move forward. He now owns a tattoo shop in NYC,  is a published author (with three books and two chapbooks out), and has done artwork for books, magazines, apparel, and bands. He has been in hundreds of books and magazines, mostly around 2008-2014.
