Good Stories for Hard Times - The Modern Decameron
In Boccaccio's 14th century story collection, ‘the Decameron’, a group of friends hunkered down in a villa to wait out the plague. They passed the time by telling stories. Ten characters told a story each over ten days, with one person acting as story monarch for that day.  To bring some light to these similarly lurgy-ridden times, medievalist Daisy Black has co-ordinated a modern Decameron of tales. Storytellers old and new from across the world have united to share their tales over a period of ten days.   Ten days of ten stories.  A hundred messages of hope and solidarity.   The stories will be uploaded on Facebook and Youtube. Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3049501975089576/ YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzUzlu6LWoTODcgfCfEm1wg/about   Like Boccaccio’s tellers, we have dutifully included breaks for Sundays and for our tellers to do their chores. Join us on the following days for an epic online storytelling festival which would make Boccaccio’s biggest fanboy, Geoffrey Chaucer, weep with awe.   The 27th, 29th, 30th, 31st of March / The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th of April   Can’t wait for us to begin? Lore Talk | Of Lisa and Lady Isabel · S1EB · Part 3
In  these episodes, we’re discussing the lore behind our tales and the   creative decisions we made telling them. In Part 3, ‘Of Lisa and Lady Isabel’,  I sit down with a friend and follower of the podcast, Lisa Billela. Lisa has been a supporter of the podcast right from the beginning and giving us early feedback on episodes, but is new to the world of folklore and storytelling. In this part of Lore Talk, Lisa tells us what it’s like to listen to stories on the podcast versus live storytelling, and give us her thoughts on the female characters in our episodes, and how they are represented in traditional folklore narratives. || Keep up to date with the podcast by visiting www.loreandlegend.co.uk and following us on Facebook and Twitter and YouTube.

In these episodes, we’re discussing the lore behind our tales and the  creative decisions we made telling them. In Part 2, ‘Of Parrots and Porridge Wands’, we tackle some lingering questions we had about some of our Series 1 stories, particularly the later episodes.  We revisit the Buried Moon to talk about the importance of attribution and about classism in folklore studies; Seb and I puzzle over the existence of ‘porridge wands’, only to discover we both have one hiding in our kitchen drawers; and we consider the unusual role of the Parrot in the Lady Isabel story, leading us to delve into a rich history of folklore and folk stories about parrots. || Keep up to date with the podcast by visiting www.loreandlegend.co.uk and following us on Facebook and Twitter and YouTube.

Lore Talk | Of Warlocks and Will 'O Wisps · S1EB · Part 1
Welcome to our second Lore Talk episode. In these episodes, we’re discussing the lore behind our tales and the creative decisions we made telling them.  It’s been awhile since our last episode of Lore Talk, so when we met, we had a lot to cover. For that reason, we’ve decided to split this edition of Lore Talk into three parts. In Part 1, ‘Of Warlocks and Will-O-Wisps’, we’ll be discussing our four Halloween episodes: Byard’s Leap, The Wife of Usher’s Well, Jack of the Lantern and The Warlock. We’ve heard from some of you that some of the Halloween episodes are now your favourites, so we hope you enjoy hearing us discuss some of the lore behind these tales. || Keep up to date with the podcast by visiting www.loreandlegend.co.uk and following us on Facebook and Twitter and YouTube.
