In Episode 6: Life as Physician, on The Med Survival Guide series, we dive into what it's like to be a physician with Dr. Cheryl Rockman-Greenberg.  

Dr. Cheryl Rockman-Greenberg is a metabolic geneticist and distinguished professor in the Department of Pediatrics & Child Health and Department of Biochemistry & Medical Genetics at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Rockman-Greenberg was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in 2018 and was in the Top 100 of Canada’s Most Powerful Women in 2012 by the Women’s Executive Network. 

In Episode 5: Life as Resident Doctor, on The Med Survival Guide series, we dive into what it's like to be a resident doctor with Dr. Yohanna Asghedom. 

Dr. Asghedom is a family medicine resident doctor at St. Joseph's Health Center in Toronto, one of the co-founders of the University of Manitoba's Black Medical Students' Association and one of the co-founders of Black Medical Students' Association of Canada. Dr. Asghedom has a special interest in Immigrant and Refugee Health and an advocate for underserved, marginalized, and underrepresented communities.

In Episode 4: Life as a 2nd-Year Medical Student, on The Med Survival Guide series, we dive into what it's like to be a 2nd-year medical student at the College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba with Ian Fast and Amandeep Singh.

In Episode 3: Life as a 1st-Year Medical Student, on The Med Survival Guide series, we dive into what it's like to be a 1st-year medical student at the College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba with Kevin Stein and Julian Burtniak. 

In Episode 2: Preparing for the MMI, on The Med Survival Guide series, we dive into what it's like preparing for the MMI (Multiple Mini Interviews) with 1st-year medical students from the College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba, Charith Karunatilake & Arjun Raghavan. 

In Episode 1: Life as a Pre-Med of The Med Survival Guide series, we dive into what it's like being a pre-med student with 1st-year medical students from the College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba, Amy Clark and Asif Ahmed. We talk about their journey into medical school, what inspired them to pursue medicine, and what it's like to go through the application process. 

Today’s bonus episode is from Day 4 of our annual high school symposium, EnviroTalks. In early April 2021, in honour of Earth month, our team hosted a virtual symposium for high school students to learn more about the careers available in the field of Environmental Science, Engineering, and Design. You will be listening to a presentation from Dr. Laura Gillard and Dr. Erica Rosenblum. During the webinar, Dr. Gillard and Dr. Rosenblum talked about their research in Arctic Science and even conducted some experiments which focus on ideas about ocean layering (stratification) and implications on sea ice and large-scale climate.

In early April 2021, in honour of Earth month, our team hosted a virtual symposium for high school students to learn more about the careers available in the field of Environmental Science, Engineering, and Design. You will be listening to a presentation from Trina Semenchuck. Trina Semenchuck is the 2020-2021 president of UMEARTH, a technical society at the Price Faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba. UMEARTH has completed several projects focused on sustainable technology such as the creation of a green wall in the engineering atrium and their WinterGreen project, in which they grew  food indoors  during the winter season. During the webinar, Trina talks about Environmental Engineering, UMEARTH, and explains the engineering design process, which was applied to a design challenge for high school students to take part in.

In early April 2021, in honour of Earth month, our team hosted a virtual symposium for high school students to learn more about the careers available to them in the field of Environmental Science, Engineering, and Design. In this episode, you will be listening to a presentation from Dr. Gail Davoren. Dr. Gail Davoren is a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Manitoba. Her research interests include marine ecology, species interactions, food web dynamics, marine conservation biology, sea birds, whales, and forage fish. Dr. Davoren's lab investigates interactions of forage fish and multiple marine predators (seabirds, whales, fish) to understand predator-prey and food web dynamics. This research will increase our ability to maintain the long-term productivity of this northern marine ecosystem to sustain fisheries yields and conserve marine biodiversity.
