Two nerds looking into the lore behind some of our favorite monsters. We find monsters highlighted in video games, shows, comics, and movies then dive into the history that helped create the creatures we know and love.
Today we're talking about the Hopkinsville Gremlins, otherwise known as the Kelly Little Green Men: a not-so-old event in Kentucky that helped spark a resurgence in the reports of aliens in the US. We explore some possible explanations for the event, a cover-up theory, and the possibility of aliens somewhere in our galaxy. We also talk about the history behind the term "little men", the Kelly Festival costume competition, and realize that we can't remember song lyrics.
Today we are diving (get it?) into the legend of the Loveland Frogman! We talk about the original legend, the most popular story of a sighting and one of the most recent sightings that made it to the local Loveland news. We also go off on tangents about wands versus staffs, responsible pet ownership, date night conversation topics and a slew of other things. It's rambling, it's weird, it's the Loveland Frogman.
Today we hear about the evil spirit, the Wendigo, and how they have been a warning against greed and gluttony. Zach fills us in on some of the creepier aspects of these creatures and gives us a look into an actual historical figure that may have been possessed by a wendigo. We also ramble about taco trucks, naked turkeys and video games. Join us as we learn about the Wendigo!
Today we talk about all around good guy, Thunderbird. We get to touch base on a lot of First People legends and myths relating to Thunderbird to give you a hint at how rich and amazing these stories are. We also talk about Rhodan, Big Bird, and eagle hunting goats.
Today we discuss a fairly recent edition to the cryptid community: The Fresno Nightcrawler! Zach talks about the initial video footage of the Nightcrawler and we talk about how its started to spread across the globe. We explore possibilities of Nightcrawlers being a hoax, a misunderstanding, or even an extraterrestrial visitor. We also get a little sidetracked by creating a new cryptid of our own and movie ideas featuring one of new favorite cryptids.
We're looking into the well known cryptid, Nessie from Loch Ness! Katie rambles about eye witness reports, big game hunters and historical creatures while Zach talks about hollow earth and possible cryptid migrations. We get to talk about a whole lot of theories and science? It's weird, it's fun, and we can't wait to have you join us for this week's episode!
Welcome to the tale of the Chupacabra! Put in your headphones and listen to us chat about this fairly new cryptid, its origins and locations plus similar creatures that could attack in the dark of the night. We get to discuss sexy (?) aliens, unmask the real Chupacabra and Zach makes terrifying goat noises - seriously, at 12:05 you should probably take those headphones out.
After you listen to this episode, pop back here and follow the link to the BBC article we talk about and let us know what you think:
Kicking off Season 2 with one of Zach's favorite (and Katie's least favorite) cryptids: Mothman! We take a look at Mothman's origin, some theories regarding his very existence, and talk about a less than stellar movie featuring the cryptid. Get ready to listen in as we talk about West Virginia, theme park ideas, questionable motives for attacking cars and new movies we can't wait to pitch.
The Nerdyweds join us for a wonderful rambling talk about all things Dragons! We talk about some of our favorite pop culture scaly friends, compare movies to books, take a quick detour into zombies, and end up arguing about the best way to write a novel. There’s a lot of fun twists and turns as we talk about how dragon myths were possibly created and influenced by (a lack of) science, and how dragons may just be aliens?
We welcome our good friend and comrade Eric Wilson as we take a look at those little invisible elves that are always around helping or causing mischief. We talk about other type of small beings that influence the lives of others from other folklores. Also we talk about Elf on a shelf possible connection, and other strange holiday traditions that we were had growing up.
Join us as we dive into No Face from Spirited Away and other faceless creatures with our guest Dylan Davidson from Digital Lizards of Doom. We bring up yokai, and the creature from The Haunting of Bly Manor, and somehow Katie once again brings up her life long goal of becoming Baba Yaga.
Welcome to the Spooktober Finale! We geek out over the Last of Us Zombies, Fallout Ghouls and get to talk about their origins and history behind the creepy creatures. Prepare yourself for a lot of fungi, mycelium, radiation, comets and a bid to write our own sit-com.
The third installment of Spooktober features Stalfos from the Legend of Zelda series! Pull up a chair and listen to Katie geek out over fighting skeletons, talk about her theories regarding their creation and explore some spooky skeleton stories throughout the world. We also take a couple song breaks and reveal our abysmal math skills.
Come listen as we chat about butt-kicking bat people! Katie talks about Gargoyles in this quick Spooktober episode and regales us with stories of time traveling defenders of old. We also get to talk about stereotypical monster features, why a chimera is not a gargoyle, and front lawn decapitation trophies.
Welcome to our first Spooktober Special featuring a real witchy woman - Baba Yaga in the Hellboy universe and how she has evolved from the comics into the newest 2019 movie. Then we get to talk about old Slavic gods, morally ambiguous characters, and Katie's future retirement plans.
Prepare your earholes for Part II of God Vs King featuring King Kong! Zach teaches us about the original creature concept for King Kong and how he's changed over the years. We also talk about old Hollywood special effects, headlining Kaiju, box office records, and gross bug pits.
Join us for Part I of our Godzilla versus King Kong special! Today we take a deeper look at Godzilla and how he inspired the kaiju monster movie culture. You also get to hear us talk about bad cartoons, creepy moths, and giant lizard reproduction conundrums.
Two Poke-nerds chat about one of their all time favorite Pokemon, Snorlax. Tune in while we explore the beauty of being big, unfettered eating habits, sprouting trees from your tummy and a Hindu giant with an unfortunate curse.
Tune in as we take a quick look into everyone's favorite murder puppies, the Direwolves! We're touching on important points like about poor parenting decisions, dream states, canine family trees, and prehistoric pit traps.
Crack open a bottle of wish-granting Djinn with us! This episode we learn about the origin of the Djinn, killer shadow people, super old manuscripts, bad fishing locations, and that threatening to murder those who free you may not be the wisest choice.
Take a look with us at Germanic werewolves and how they inspired the Carnival Row Marrok. We talk about funky clothing options, scolding your neighbors, candle lit shrines and bad guys with bad tempers.
