Episode 17 - Contest Prep Series: Nutrition - What To Expect & How To Prepare
Prepping for a bodybuilding competition and taking your physique to another level of shape and conditioning is incredibly tough. It takes a LOT of dedication, consistency, and (most of all) patience to do well in the sport. I'll say that again, staying patient is the #1 thing that will get you the best results in the long run. The tortoise wins every time 💪🏻
This goes for anyone wanting to completely transform their body. Whether It's getting ready for a photo shoot, getting shredded for the summer, or hell, just because you feel like it. Whatever the case may be, it doesn't come easy. It never will either.
You'll end up going through a lot of suck to get the end result you're after, but you'll also come out feeling incredible not just on show day, but throughout the prep, but that's only if your mind is in the right place 😉
In this episode we discuss the most important piece of getting dialed in for that level of ridiculousness and that is the nutrition aspect. You can't out-train a bad diet. And the harder you try it, you'll look 10 times worse than how you should look on show day.
We break down the in's and outs, the good and bad, and what you should expect during during the dieting process.
Oh and if you like what you hear, please send us a sweet review so we know our listeners are liking and getting something out of it :)

Episode 13 - Confirmation Bias in Dieting
When pursuing a fitness goal, are we just a part of a self-fulfilling prophecy? It's human nature to gravitate towards things you agree with or make you feel comfortable. This is especially true in the fitness industry and how we feel about different approaches and strategies. Tyler and Lee Ann dig deeper into how examining our own bias can negatively impact your progress, and how stepping out of your comfort zone can help you reach your goals!
Episode 12 - Maintaining and WHY it's important! (And very hard to do!)
Tyler and Lee Ann tackle one of the TOUGHEST things people go through - and that is maintaining.
Sounds strange, right? But the reality is, learning how to successfully maintain weight is one of the most important and also most difficult things many people will do on their fitness journey. The default setting is to either be dieting or be bulking, but what about the time in between? How can focusing on maintaining help you achieve long term success? Tune in to find out!
Episode 11 - What is Intuitive Eating?
Intuitive Eating is something that is often marketed as another dieting strategy - when in fact, it is not. Intuitive eating is the ability to eat food, without tracking, without food focus, and maintain weight and good performance in physical activities. But how do we get there? What does that journey look like? Tyler and Lee Ann take a closer look at Intuitive Eating and what it could mean for YOU.
Episode 10 - What Happens When The Diet Is Over?
In theory, dieting is easy - eat less and move more. In theory, you diet and you lose the weight then you just magically retain all the results! Right?
WRONG!
In order the to maintain what you've worked for, realistically, you'd have to maintain everything you're doing while dieting. And you (no one) can diet forever. And even that isn't a realistic situation to be in because of metabolic adaptations. Our bodies are smarter than we are.
But there is a better way that takes a lot of time and effort, and is almost as (sometimes more) tricky as the diet itself. You have to get yourself out of the diet, on the other side, and learn how to maintain your progress and still live life, and learn some REAL lessons on how to keep yourself in check when the diet is over.
Tune in to hear some real and raw info on how to sustain your results after the diet is over!
Episode 9 - Dieting Strategies
Tyler and Lee Ann take some time to spill the tea and drop the hard truth on dieting strategies and realities of dieting. Refeeds, cheat meals, diet breaks, and carb cycling are discussed in quite a matter of fact way - and they share the hard truth about what REALLY works in the big picture.
Episode 8 - The Scale
We all know the scale has it's ups and downs (haha we're so punny) but truly it's important to realize - especially for beginner - what it does and does NOT show in regards to progress. We also touch on what things can cause a swing in weight, and the importance of averages vs. daily numbers and give some alternatives to tracking progress that have nothing to do with the number you see.
Episode 7 - Alcohol and Macros
Alcohol has become such a social item. It’s hard to not go to a dinner with friends, hit up a happy hour after work, or enjoy a romantic night out without alcohol involved. And let’s not get started on the barbecues during the summer and holiday parties in the winter! But can you still consume alcohol in social settings and meet your goals? How does it impact your general lifestyle, or competition athletes? Let’s find out!
Episode 6 - Macro Myth Buster: #TeamNoDaysOff
It can be easy on the hunt for a fitness-minded lifestyle to adopt the ‘more is better’ mentality. More lifting, more cardio, more restriction… but sometimes, and not to be cliche, less IS more. It can be very easy to get caught up in the #nodaysoff mentality but that can also quickly cause burnout and frustration. The reason for this is our body actually needs time away from the physical strain in order to heal, build, and grow. So finding the balance between activity and recovery is imperative to making fitness a sustainable lifestyle, and what that looks like can vary from person to person. So let’s go ahead and break the myth that #nodaysoff is sustainable and doable and get some perspective on what a long-term sustainable lifestyle can look like.
Episode 5 - Meal Prepping: Why, when, and how?
It may be cliche, but it’s true: If you fail to plan, plan to fail! Meal prepping is a lifestyle habit that lends itself to a lot of success with flexible dieting. Tyler, Lee Ann and myself discuss various methods of meal prepping and offer various scenarios and lifestyle tips to make meal prepping work for you and your journey.
Episode 4 - Macro Budgeting: How to make the MOST out of your macros!
On today’s episode we talk about Macro Budgeting. Similar to balancing your checkbook, it’s helpful to take a look at your daily macros totals and balance them through the day. It’s helpful to be aware of some kind of structure throughout the day or a plan for your food, in order to create a higher level of food nutrient awareness. This awareness will help you to make informed decisions on your food choices for the long-term.
Episode 3 - Macro Myth Busters: Low Carb Diets
Here at Macro Hack Radio we LOVE carbs. Carbs are friends. Carbs are a necessity. With all of the ‘low carb’ fads that float around seemingly endlessly, we want to debunk the myth that you HAVE to eat low carbs, talk about why carbs are important, and present some situations in which low carbs may temporarily be beneficial but certainly not meant to be a sustainable way of eating.
Episode 2 - The Basics: How do you 'Macro?'
Episode 1 - The 'Diet' Mentality
The word ‘diet’ has become a hot button word that generally signifies suffering, punishing yourself for enjoying food, something that happens for a specific period of time, and is something you turn on and off. Before we delve into more specific topics down the road, we want to break down the word diet to a much broader and simpler concept and remove the potential negative connotations, and present to you OUR definition of the word ‘DIET’
