Kayla is a singer/songwriter who unabashedly loves pop music! Her sound is characterized by catchy melodies and full harmonies and has a love of oldies music which is represented by her soulful vocals and thoughtful lyrics. Her latest single “Stealing from My Youth” released October 23, 2020 is a ‘70s inspired ballad about life as an artist during the pandemic and was released at a live sold out event.

ZINNIA is Keeping it Alive on Her Own Terms
I speak with Toronto-based artist, Rachael Cardiello — the dynamic, equally intimate and fierce force behind art pop project ZINNIA — about artistic collaboration between different modes of expression, songs as hard candy, and the importance of having glitter suit dreams. Since releasing their album Sensations in Two Dot as a collaborative performance with 9 choreographers and 11 dancers interpreting each song, ZINNIA has continued weaving across artistic disciplines and will continue doing so until the end of the world or until they get tired of it. Once described as "Kate Bush meets Meatloaf" and first to proclaim a deep love for Bruce Springsteen, ZINNIA is currently in a state of metamorphosis that involves sitting around in a basement in Toronto, watching Pen 15, making homemade pasta, pretending to swim on the kitchen counter, and slowly starting to turn the gears on a new album.

Kurt Loewen is Conveying Love as the Prevailing Sentiment
I speak with my dear friend, Victoria-based songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist, Kurt Loewen about growing as songwriters, becoming more comfortable with vulnerability in the way we write, and leaning into love songs. The lack of opportunity to perform publicly in recent days has given Loewen the chance to take a deep dive into the songwriting and recording processes. Self-produced from his home studio in Victoria, Loewen's latest record, Becker Lake (October 2020) emerged as a body of work representative of the time spent largely in solitude. Becker Lake conveys songs of hope, open heartedness, kindness, and optimism which thematically and unto itself is a departure from his former Heavy & Low (2019).
