Domestic Helpers make up a whopping 5 percent of Hong Kong's 7 million-plus population.

In an ever-efficient society that demands both parents work hard and earn more for ever-increasing rent, Domestic Helpers step in to be the help at home. They are the unsung heroes of the busy non-stop city life that is Hong Kong. They are the caretakers, the second parents, the cleaners, the cooks, the very backbone of Hong Kong families. We know of them and what they do, but do we know who they are, their stories? 

We have two Filipinas, Richel and Fher, two very different individuals with one shared life story, the dream of going to a foreign land, and bettering their lives and the lives of their loved ones back home. Join us as they impart to us their Domestic Helper experience. 

Have you ever compared and picked apart the differences between the country you're currently residing in and the one where we all originated from? Do you find any similarities? Do the changes frustrate you or make you feel lucky to be somewhere else? In this two part episode, we discuss our two home countries and the major lifestyle differences. We get down to nitty gritty going from serious topics to our typical long kwentos (stories) regarding (Education, Transportation, Dating and other events).

In this episode, we ponder all the elements that make up our culture. We discuss all the good things: food, language, traditional costumes, and fiestas, as well as the not so good: Filipino time, Utang na Loob, Pakitang Tao as well as the confines of being expected to act like a Dalagang Pilipina in this day and age.
