In this episode Drs. Kutz and Konin pontificate about Sayre's Law, which states, "In any dispute the intensity of feeling is inversely proportional to the value of the issues at stake." This is a fun one where we basically conclude people are crazy and need to "lighten up." Have fun!

Ep. 15 Anonymity and Leadership?

In this episode Drs. Kutz and Konin get real (and a bit passionate) about the issue surrounding the mythical belief that someone can create change via anonymous interventions on social media (and other platforms). We discuss some real, relevant, and timely issue around social media and the platforms that allow for whining without taking ownership. As you listen you'll quickly discover we have an opinion that may not be liked by some, but hopefully will open dialogue for real change and promote leadership behaviors that can actually lead to desired changes. Please reach out to either of us if you have questions or chime in on social media (twitter) @DrMattKutz or @DrKonin #FoofForThought

Ep. 14 Are Leaders Born... or Made?

Ep. 14 Are Leaders Born... or Made?

In this episode Drs. Kutz and Konin talk about leadership development and whether leaders are born with the innate capacity to lead or are leaders made (forged) over time. Not as cut and dry and some might think. The conversation delves into the differences between leaders and managers and discusses crucial differences between the two. At the end of the episode we offer a self "test" and suppose that a managers typical default response to something new or unfamiliar is, "No!" whereas a leaders typical default response to the same is, "Yes" let try it." Enjoy! If you want to discuss this more we'd be happy to connect, reach out to us at mkutz@fiu.edu or jkonin@fiu.edu

Ep. 13 Pitfalls of Organizational Leadership

Ep. 13 Pitfalls of Organizational Leadership

In this episode Drs. Kutz and Konin "POKE THE BEAR." For example, volunteerism is not leadership. Despite that fact, many organizations reserve leadership positions and titles for those who have a history or penchant for volunteering. This tendency reduces the likelihood that other (maybe even qualified) leaders get involved or have opportunity to get involved. Furthermore, volunteer-based leadership recruitment initiatives hinder cognitive diversity needed among teams… and a few other interesting ideas.

Ep. 9 Proximity Bias!

Ep. 9 Proximity Bias!

Proximity Bias is real thing that is manifesting more as the workplace becomes increasingly virtual and remote. SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) has identified proximity bias as real problem with upwards of 40% of executives citing the inequities between remote and in-office employees as a growing concern. In fact, "bosses" may be twice as likely to prefer or favor in-office employees... perhaps leading to some workplace inequity. We are not experts on this, but that isn't stopping us from having an opinion on it.
