Meet the meQuanics - E53 - Quantum Supremacy (A. Montenaro, M. Bremner, R. Mann)
Today, a major result in Quantum Computing was published in Nature. Google has reported its achievement of Quantum Supremacy, the term given to the point where a quantum processor can outperform any classical supercomputer at a specific task. The theoretical backbone of Google's quantum supremacy protocol has been developed over many many years. In this episode of the podcast we are joined by researchers who have been intimately involved in the development of these computational protocols. Joining us today is Ashley Montenaro from the University of Bristol, Michael Bremner from the University of Technology Sydney and Ryan Mann from the University of Bristol. We discuss the evolution of the theoretical work that has underpinned the Google experiment, the result itself and what hopefully comes next. Meet the meQuanics - E29 - Field Report #QIP2017 - Zachary Eldredge (U. Maryland)
today we try something new on meet the meQuanics. This week, in Seattle is the 20th edition of the Quantum Information Processing (QIP) conference series, one of the major quantum technology conferences worldwide. Live tweeting a conference has become more and more common and to try something new we have enlisted one of those live tweeters to come on the podcast to give us a bit of a look at the kind of things being discussed. We are very pleased that Zachary Eldredge from the University of Maryland gave us some of his time to come on the show and discuss some of the talks that he has found interesting. Hopefully we will get another update from him later in the week for the rest of the talks at QIP and we will see how this goes and maybe the meet the meQuanics field reports will become a regular part of the show.
