Show Announcement
This episode features a show announcement: the show is over. I love you all!
Goodbye until I come back for my next media adventure whatever that might be!
Christmas in Harmony
I'm LATE. I know, I'm sorry. Hopefully, these recording issues won't happen if I start recording with people in-person. Anyways, Marie Trudeau joins me to discuss Christmas in Harmony. A movie I was kinda down on until Marie convinced me that this movie is actually all things considered, pretty good!
Deadly Seduction
Bridget Salvia of Once In a Lifetime joins me to discuss Sex, Lies, and Murder aka Deadly Seduction. It's probably my favorite movie I've ever covered for the show. So, try to find it, watch it love it, listen to this episode about it, then spread the word far and wide. This ep was supposed to come out on 10/23, I don't know what happened.
Deadly Illusions
Bubble creator Jordan Morris (@Jordan_Morris) joined me to discuss the Kristen Davis erotic thriller, Deadly Illusions. Will Megan get Dermot Mulroney's name right now that's she's seen him in two different movies? Probably still no. This episode's a fun one with lots of twists and turns! #DeadlyIllusions
Also, did you know Bubble the narrative comedy podcast is now a graphic novel? If you haven't picked it up yet, go here!
Which Hallmark Christmas Movie Trope Are You Quiz
So, this should be a full ep, but because of scheduling I just talked through my taking of a personality quiz. It's a silly time. :)
Crazy Movie Parties and That Doesn't Belong on a Pizza!
I continue talking about movies that have pizzas with things on them that shouldn't be there. This time it's Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Also, what "movie-like" crazy parties have you been to? Tell me your stories at notanotherbadmoviepodcast@gmail.com!
Love's Last Resort
Gillian "Gigi" Boyle and Megan Tripp discuss "Love's Last Resort" a Canadian film about a woman who has to choose between a man who's marrying someone else and her best friend's nephew played by Thomas Beaudoin AKA "Christmas Ghost." It's a funnier movie than that premise suggests, we promise.
Bonus Episode Christmas in July with Alonso Duralde
Megan and Alonso discuss out-of-the-box Christmas movies and Christmas movies you may have missed. And Megan fears for her life in the middle of a serious thunderstorm. :)
The Christmas Train
Megan and film critic Alonso Duralde (@aduralde) discuss The Christmas Train. A movie about a romantic train ride with one wild twist!
You're So Cupid
Tim Stevens (@Ungajje) joins me to discuss "You're So Cupid," a 2010 tween rom-com about the daughters of Cupid. It's a very silly though not entirely Cupid... I mean Stupid... movie.
While You were Casting Ch 5
Back in 2019, I did a 1 episode per DVD chapter of the While You were Sleeping DVD. You can listen to the episodes for DVD chapters 1-6 behind the paywall at patreon.com. You can also listen episode "N/A" on patreon where I list every Hallmark Christmas movie I saw that year (2019) and hear me sing, "What are you doing New Years Eve?" in that episode (so cringey).
Anyway THIS episode available on the main feed features Ross Weisman (on twitter as @misterweisman), friend of the pod, and is a good time for all!
A Week Away
Megan and sister Dawn finally watched, "A Week Away" the longest commercial for a fictional camp the world has ever seen!
Come... and go with me... to... Aweegaway...come...and go with me... to see teens make some friends!
Secret Obsession Bonus and WHY THERE'S A KEYBOARD FILLED WITH M&Ms IN THE PRINCESS DIARIES
Ryan Kane (@FBC_PapaMink) joins me to discuss how "Secret Obsession" could be made into a video game, and I reveal to Ryan what my Secret Obsession is: the shots Michael Moscowitz's keyboard as he plays in the garage scene of "The Princess Diaries." Those shots are to let you know that Michael wants to "live in a world where you can order M&Ms on a pizza." Otherwise, how would you react when Mia sends a pizza to his place with "SORRY" written out in M&Ms? You wouldn't get it. More details in the episode, trust me, you don't want to miss it.
Secret Obsession
Yes, the Ryan Kane (@FBC_PapaMink) ep is 8 days late, but it is worth the wait! We discussed "Secret Obsession." After running away from an attacker Jenn is hit by a car and gets amnesia. Good thing her hubby is there 4 her, but is he all he seems? Nope! Pretty early on we figure out he isn't. We imagine this movie as an Allstate commercial, wonder why the good guys always confront the bad guys instead of just getting away from them, and discuss how the "knocking someone on the back of the head trick" is a great technique.
Church Camp Experiences from the Crying Clown Prophet and Terrified Flour-Face
So, I thought "A Week Away" was coming out this week and the next ep would be about "A Week Away," so I thought we'd do a bonus ep for it.
Anyways, A Week Away is strangely enough, more than a week away. So, that'll be an April ep and this conversation has no reason for being. BUT IT'S STILL A FUN AND CRAZY EVANGELICAL RIDE BABY! We talk about our experiences in Baptist and Methodist circles spanning time from '89 to the early '00s. It's a truly weird and funny conversation!
Bonus Episode: What Video Lives Rent-Free in Your Mind?
What's something from your pre-teen years that's burned into your memory? For host Megan Tripp, it's the movie "The Princess Diaries," and not even the whole movie, just a few key scenes. I talk about one of those key scenes in this episode. Also, here's a link to the song, "When Did Your Heart Go Missing."
Invisible Child with Mary Parker
Mary Parker joins me in watching the 1999 Lifetime Movie, "Invisible Child," about a family with a delusional mother who believes she has three children when she in fact only has two. Her husband and her elder child help with her delusion and her younger child believes in his "invisible sister." It's a tragic tale but also, strangely hilarious?
Rasputin with Ollie Brady
Host emeritus of Best Acquaintances and of Media-eval, Ollie Brady, joins me to discuss the 1996 HBO movie, Rasputin. Marvel at our Alan Rickman impressions, our cold takes on the character of Severus Snape, and then go out and watch this movie on YouTube, you'll probably like it!
Behind-the-Scenes Dear Christmas with Emily Bennett
Ever wonder what it would be like behind-the-scenes of a Lifetime movie? Then listen to this interview with Emily Bennett of historic indie Sundance Books which was a location used in "Dear Christmas." Yes, I owe you listeners the full ep this week, but don't you want the Christmas-related bonus ep sooner rather than later?
And don't forget to patronage your own local indie bookstore! Go to Independent Bookstores | IndieBound.org to find out about indie store in your area!
Countdown to Christmas Quiz with John McCoy and Dan McCoy!
Will either John McCoy (@tracemcjoy) or Dan McCoy (@dankmccoy) defeat Tim Hulsizer's (@timhulsizer) 40% on the 2020 Hallmark Countdown to Christmas Quiz? Or will Tim reign supreme? Maybe numbers don't mean anything, and "winning" is the journey to forgiving our older siblings for traumatizing us as youths. Listen and find out!
The Christmas Waltz- Hallmark Countdown to Christmas 2020
Sorry this ep is late! Tim Stevens (@ungajje) joins me to discuss the #LaceyChabert #CountdownToChristmas movie, "The Christmas Waltz." Will Russian/English dancer, Roman, sweep contracts lawyer, Avery, off her feet? I mean... probably... it's a romance. We also discuss an Etsy commercial that made me cry.
On the 12th Date of Christmas
We watched On the 12th Date of Christmas. Will this surly man fall in love with this woman who LOVES corporate entertainment? Will this movie turn out to have a positive attitude towards a woman living in the big city and following her big career dreams? Will we figure out the clues to discover Chicago's hidden gems? Join @TimHulsizer and me to see if we can figure out all the clues!
Hubie Halloween: A Netflix Movie
Minimus Maximus (@minimusmaxim is his +18 twitter feed) joins me to discuss the #Netflix movie #HubieHalloween, a study in what works in comedy, and what doesn't. We also conjecture as to how this movie makes Netflix money. Also, here's the cat, so you don't have to watch the whole movie.
Deranged Granny
So, recording on Zoom worked, but the audio qualify isn't perfect, but both Katie Knight, friend of the podcast and myself are completely understandable as we discuss Deranged Granny a Lifetime movie. You really don't want to eat the Granny's sinister baked goods, but go ahead and eat a burger around a man who's puking his guts out, why don't ya?
Abducted
Jacob Haller of Love YA Like Crazy joins me to talk about Abducted: Fugitive of Love. A movie with more clever twists than it has to have and more nudity than expected, and we propose a TV-show spinoff "STAT!" about the a couple of minor characters.
Best Friend's Betrayal
Sorry, couldn't get around to recording a new episode. But please enjoy this episode with John Ryan from about a year ago.
Mistletoe and Menorahs
Merry Christmas and Haeg sameah y'all it's Christmas (and Hanukkah) in July!
We watched Mistletoe & Menorahs. A Jew teaches a Gentile about Hanukkah and she talks about fruitcake. @SarahIfftDecker joins me to discuss this offensive?/heartwarming? tale.
It's a real cultural exchange complete with a pitch we make to Lifetime for a St. Patrick's Day/Purim spin-off movie which I'm way more excited for than the movie we watched.
Boyfriend's Deceit
Darren Husted (@darrenhusted) of a billion podcasts including The Social Minute (@social_minute) joins me to discuss Lifetime "thriller" Boyfriend's Deceit. Wigs and blueprint storage tubes galore in this episode. (BTW, when I mentioned my sister said that the only reason someone would date an architect is to gain access to office supplies, she was only kidding.)
Death Clique
Tim Stevens (@ungajje) and I discuss Death Clique. A Lifetime Original Movie, loosely based on true events. Not as silly as usual, but we have fun discussing the interesting set design choices, and other interesting choices made in this movie.
No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
Chelsie Berio and I watched, "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" a movie about a man who becomes obsessed with the woman who saves his life, and "helps" her with her tenant, her rival, and her son. Murder and nonsense abound. It's quite a pickle jar.
Revenge for Daddy: A Lifetime Original
Flophouse host, Dan McCoy (@dankmccoy) joined me to discuss "Revenge for Daddy," the Lifetime Original movie. This episode was a delight to record and even though this movie was strange, I'd say the movie itself was delightfully baffling.
Instapsycho: A Lifetime Original Movie
Marissa Flaxbart (@sweetvalley) joined me to talk about InstaPsycho. A movie about telling your HS bully to #suckit. And accidentally letting your friend die. The stakes really ramp up on this one!
Conversation with Sarah Ifft Decker
Life is crazy right now, so I didn't watch a movie. Instead, I reached out to Sarah, host of Media-eval, for a chat about podcasts and whatever else was on our minds.
Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal
With #Megxit in full-swing, could I resist a "Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal"? No! Fortunately, I have Tim Hulsizer (@glamcrackers on Twitter) to talk about this C+ movie. Will it make us feel anything despite being very mediocre? Maybe!
In the episode we mention the Grenfell tower fire, and the Grenfell recipe book. Each linked article is worth the read.
We also discuss the Buzzfeed article contrasting how Kate and Meghan are written about in the British press. Meghan's treatment by the press is as bad as you've heard.
Survivorz Re-release
A re-release of July episode. I'm still working on unpacking boxes guys!
Neither Sarah Ifft Decker (@sarahifftdecker) nor I know anything about science or American history. But she knows about medieval churches and I know about farts, so everyone is definitely staying in their lane this episode as we talk about the cheapest zombie movie ever made, Survivorz.
Christmas Reservations: A Lifetime Original Movie
Joel Bakker (@joelabakker on twitter and instagram) and I talk about the movie, Christmas Reservations. Sorry, this episode is later in the month than it should be! Happy New Year All!
Appetite for Love
Sisters, Kathleen and Megan watched, "Appetite for Love" with college friend Katie. "Appetite for Love" is a Hallmark original. We recorded this roughly 3 years ago. That's right it's another Soundcloud oldie making its way into the main RSS feed.
"Appetite for Love" that seems more concerned about corporate law than about actual romance. Our main character comes back home to ruin an old flame's restaurant just 3 months after his father's death as if breaking his heart all those years ago wasn't bad enough. And we get to talk about the LaBelle Swamp Cabbage Festival.
While You Were 'Casting Chapter 4
I have a Patreon-only podcast called, "While You were 'Casting" which is a DVD-chapter by DVD-chapter podcast about the movie "While You were Sleeping." This is the episode about DVD Chapter 4 which I recorded with Dawn, my sister. You can donate to Not Another Bad Movie Podcast on Patreon and gain access to all the episodes of While You were 'Casting here: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=3435567
Love on the Sidelines
Sisters, Dawn and Megan watched, "Love on the Sidelines" a Hallmark original roughly 3 years ago. That's right it's another Soundcloud oldie making its way into the main RSS feed.
Will Danny Hollendaise... Holloway...Holiday...Holland ever let in Laural his personal assistant? Will Megan ever get Danny's name right? Spoiler alert, yes the two romantic leads get together and no Megan will not get his name right.
Deadly Influencer
Meghan Griffin (@MeggGriffin of megggriffin.com) joins me to discuss "Deadly Influencer." This movie is about a girl who we suspect is will be killed by her social media manager; we suspect this because her social media manager murdered the last friend whose social media she managed. Will we be influenced to give our "likes" over to this movie? Is the result of this "influence" deadly? Listen to find out!
Annoucement! New Content Coming Your Way!
I'm creating another podcast, "While You were 'Casting" a fan-cast about While You were Sleeping one DVD chapter per episode, one episode per week. Hope you join in all the fun at NABM Patreon Page!
Best Friend's Betrayal
John Ryan joins me again for a Lifetime murder spree of a movie, Best Friend's Betrayal. We give our hot takes on hot drinks, and John explains how the actual justice system works rather than the bizarro universe the movie takes place in where you don't have to go to trial as a person charged with a crime unless you want to.
Survivorz
Neither Sarah Ifft Decker (@sarahifftdecker) nor I know anything about science or American history. But she knows about medieval churches and I know about farts, so everyone is definitely staying in their lane this episode as we talk about the cheapest zombie movie ever made, Survivorz.
Falling for Christmas
Lucky duckies! You get two episodes for July, including this Christmas in July episode! Dane Fox McGraw talks with me about Canadian movie, "Falling for Christmas." This movie is about an ice skater who learns "it's never good to push too hard," and learns to fall in love with an affable-enough single dad. Both important Christmas lessons. And Dane and I swear a lot.
Stranger in the House
Ross Weisman of @KidflixPod and I talk about Stranger in the House (2015) or Stranger in the House (2016). We definitely either talked about a woman who lives with her new husband and his dead wife's ghost or a woman who is accused of murdering her step-mother. Definitely at least one of these movies is the movie we talk about.
A Frosty Affair
Tim Hulsizer (Instagram handle @glamcrackers), joins me to discuss a real goof of a movie, A Frosty Affair where a girl falls in love with a rock hard chest, I mean a man. She falls in love with a man.
My Gal Sunday
My Gal Sunday is less "Taken" and more "Taken...at your leisure." Leigh Anthony Jones of @FilmClubFaceOff podcast joins me on this wild ride of a movie based on a Mary Higgins Clark book.
Velvet Buzzsaw
comicsverse.com and marvel.com contributor Tim Stevens (@UnGajje) comes back for another Netflix Original movie, Velvet Buzzsaw. We try to figure out if this is a horror, slasher, or satire movie, and fail to come up with an answer.
By the way, this is the Atlantic article we reference in the episode.
Harvest Moon BONUS EPISODE
Just putting out some really old episodes from Soundcloud onto the main feed. This episode my sister Kathleen and I talked about a Hallmark movie. It was the first one we ever recorded. :)
The Sweetest Heart
Emily Aguila and I watched The Sweetest Heart, the blandest of bakery-themed romance #hallmark ever thought up!
Movie asks: What's better for girls to play other than "bride"?
We answer: literally anything. Emily's podcasts are The World of Tomorrow and Goin' Cast, and her twitter handle is @EmilyWatches.
