Lyndell Knapp is one of the pioneers of organic farming in Wisconsin and specializes in nutrient rich organic farming methods that produce more biologically nourishing crops. Being inspired by the science of organic farming, as taught by J.I. Rodale in the seventies, Lyndell proceeded to help convert his family's conventional farm into one of Wisconsin's first certified organic farms. Lyndell was also one of the first consultants for Midwestern BioAg, teaching farmers about organic farming techniques and helping them transition from conventional chemical farming to safer, ecological farming techniques. For over thirty years, Lyndell has been engaging in creative thinking and living perspectives, inspired by the work of Earl Nightingale, Norman Vincent Peale and Napoleon Hill. He remembers encouraging his daughter, Jenna Knapp, since her teens, that she was ahead of her time and at the head of the curve. He now co-directs Heaven on Earth, an organic farm, bakery and transformation center, with his partner, Luz Elena Morey.

Luz Elena Morey, MA, RDT., (pronounced Luce Elayna) is a Colombian-born musician, teacher, performer, theatre director and professional trainer. A Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) with NADTA (North American Drama Therapy Association) Luz Elena specializes in helping people release trauma symptoms and embody their inner-wisdom-sourced essence, which is creative, dynamic and evolving. After living with Seasonal Affective Disorder since I was 15 years old this is my first time approaching winter with a hygge mindset. In this episode I sit down with the talented, Amanda Huff, a Milwaukee musician who happens to be my dear friend and roommate of eight years. We talk about her newest project, mental health, going on autopilot to cope with overwhelming emotions, her love for bugs, and the hum of our kitchen fridge.

Her newest project, ”Division”, is appropriately named for both its lyrical narrative and compositional form. The song explores the defensive mechanisms those dealing with mental health often employ--in this case specifically, autopilot. Formally the song shifts between cold, robotic analogies and digital sounds, and the organic eruption that follows breaking out of that rigidity. It is a song written with intent to validate those emotional spaces, and spark conversation about what may be bubbling beneath our surfaces.

Hailing from Milwaukee, WI, Amanda Huff is a multi-genre artist defined by her ability to cleverly merge the stylings of jazz, electronic and the cinematic into something raw and unconventional. Since her official solo debut last year with the release of album “Hemiptera”, Amanda has garnered multiple awards from the Radio Milwaukee Music Awards, Milwaukee Film Fest and the WAMI's. Natalie is a phenomenal person, writer, reader, and cat mom living in Austin, Texas. We came together over happenstance in Oakville, Ontario for this special episode where I interviewed her about routine and how it impacts her self-care and her dedication to her writing practice. Natalie has a blog that she began on January 1st, 2019 and has committed to writing a blog post EVERY SINGLE DAY for the duration of this year. She has met that goal with flying colors and has opened a special window into her life through her beautiful words. The blog is called, Life Is About Creating Yourself and you can read it here. Natalie is such a strong example of commitment, routine, follow through, finding rhythm and is one of my everyday heroes and such a positive role model in my life. Natalie is an author in the making and is currently in the editing process of her first fiction novel, I Took The Cat With Me, a queer young adult story about what we do to survive and how we wake up again. About the book: Jack Porter tries not to think about it. Not about the home he left behind. Not about how his resurfaced father, and new guardian, is treating him more like an untrained housepet than a son. Not about the Worst Day that sent him to the middle of nowhere Texas in the first place. Jack took a duffle bag full of donated clothes, a few old magazines, his cat (named Cat), and turned his back on the rest. As Jack starts his freshman year at Crescent Lot High, not thinking about it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. Everything he wants to forget shows up in his nightmares anyway or gets bullied to the surface by Luke Cruz — the loud, omnipresent football star who can’t seem to leave Jack alone. Jack’s not sure he wants him too. He tries not to think about that either. Despite his best efforts, Jack gets pulled into a steady routine in this new life — full of photography and pizza parlors and late-night runs. Moving to Texas always felt temporary, but there might be a real future for him here. If only his past would leave him alone.
