Sekiro Shadows Die Twice
A return to...form(???) Jimmy and Daniel (remember Daniel?) talk about a video game a year after it came out. CLASSIC META'D.
Let's chat about the newest game by From Software, Sekiro.
I'll preface with the fact that Jimmy has not played this game at all so we get Daniel's gameplay perspective and Jimmy's surface-level blabber. We talk about the replayability of the game, overcoming difficult bosses, comparing the environments between Dark Souls, Bloodborne, ANIME and more in this episode!
Specific anime shows talked about: Dororo, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and (the one Jimmy couldn't remember the name of) Miss Hokusai!

Interview with Thomas Loupe - Game Composer/Sound Engineer
Jimmy has a chat with Thomas Loupe, a man who wears many hats some of which are: Sound Designer, Producer, Composer & Game Designer.
2019 already...okay! Jimmy has a chat with Thomas Loupe (aka First Sun) about music and games. They talk about struggling with imposter syndrome, creating music in general, getting busted for hacking school computers, Garth Brooks, and more in this episode!
Sorry about some audio glitches in this episode (mostly my audio being doubled in some parts), podcasting is hard!
Most of the music in this episode is by Thomas, check out his stuff!!
Tried to figure out how this is "meta-analysis" and came up with: What's more meta than talking with people who create the things we want to talk about?

Bloopers Capstone Episode
This isn't a traditional episode of Meta'd by any means necessary. Within lies a compilation of various bloopers and outtakes from recording. It's not really in any order nor do we know if it's funny at all (we think we're hilarious btw). These are just some of the many clips of us completely messing up.
This episode will act as a sort of capstone for "Season 1" of Meta'd. Anything after this episode will be different (if there is anything).

Environmental Storytelling
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen try to come up with their own definition of Environmental Storytelling. They prattle on about hypothetical game situations and also talk about environmental storytelling in specific games. Glen and Paul agree to disagree about the exact same thing. Jimmy uses an environmental storytelling technique to add depth to his Dungeons and Dragons campaign. They circle around a sort of definition of what environmental storytelling is and end up with a pretty solid understanding of it (we think). They also debate on how difficult it must be to create environmental storytelling in a 2D game as well as praise current and past developers for putting that challenge on themselves. Secret story unlocked!

Micro-transcations
In this episode, Paul and Jimmy talk about micro-transactions; both within the current events unfolding around Star Wars Battlefront II, and about some other games that also have micro-transcations. No Glen this week, to quote him, "My mind is mush," so we can't have any mush minds on this podcast! Paul brings Jimmy up to speed about the seething hatred of Reddit versus EA/DICE's newest Star Wars game. Jimmy recalls a certain gametype in Halo 5 that possibly has a pay-to-win model implemented. They discuss the differences between pay-to-win microtranscations and the simpler aesthetic and quality-of-life microtransactions. The topic of microtranscations and post-release downloadable content is very broad and they end up branching off into different styles of games such as mobile games and Free to Play games such as Path of Exile, Dota 2, and League of Legends. Paul talks about Overwatch loot crates. Paul and Jimmy both yearn for times when games were complete at launch. Ultimately, the best case scenario is that the consumers get what they want without having to pay thousands of dollars or playing for hundreds of thousands of hours. Oh boy jumping puzzles!

In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen speak on the topic of films made by Studio Ghibli but more so by the director Hayao Miyazaki. The dudes talk in depth about what feelings are brought up by these powerful movies and how they've had an impact on their lives as well as the entirity of Anime. Glen becomes a concept. Paul brings up the Hobbit again. Jimmy remembers being a twerp in malls. Amnesia: The Dark Descent
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen revisit a horror game that still holds it's own. SPOILERS AHOY (If you've never played Amnesia, give it a go. It's a great game)! They discuss many aspects about the game from simple mechanics to overarching thematical elements. Paul is unphased by scary games and his gamer-instincts kick in to "beat the game." Glen gets fucked up from 5 minutes of Amnesia. Jimmy has to dig up old memories of playing Amnesia the first time. They end up a little off-topic at the end: talking about all things from clowns to Phoenix Wright. Happy Halloween!

Gaston (and other villains)
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen talk about one of the oldest and most hotly-contested debates: whether Gaston is actually the hero of Beauty and the Beast. The dudes kick things off with spicy discourse about the new and old Beauty and Beast films (both animated and live-action). After a good amount of time is spent on this topic the boys switch gears to talk more about the overall topic of compelling villains in all types of media. We mention a lot of series in this episode so make sure to check it all out to find out our opinions on what makes a compelling villain. Glen also breaks down and talks about the villain running the US as of late. I refute thee!

Metroidvania Games
In this episode, Paul, & Jimmy (sans Glen this week) return to form to talk shop about the sub-genre of Metroidvania games. Paul and Jimmy played Castlevania: Symphony of the Night a couple years ago and share some memories about that. They both agree that the Metroidvania style of gameplay is very fun and rewarding. Paul loved Super Metroid and Jimmy loved Metroid Fusion so they talk about the elements in those games that stuck out to them. They both have played (or beaten) Ori & the Blind Forest and were so excited to see the culmination of so many good elements in a metroidvania style. In a true return-to-form they talk about everything from minute details to grand schemes in relation to the Metroidvania style. Jimmy embarasses himself publically with singing (linked on twitter) & Paul recommends a steam early-access game (Dead cells).

Game Replayability
We're back! In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen REALLY get back into the swing of things by talking about games that they can always return to (or in some cases never return to). Jimmy talks about finding deeper meaning in Wind Waker. Paul talks about RPGs that have little details that are often missed on a first playthrough. Glen reminisces about getting punched in the head by his brother over Simpson's Road Rage. The guys deeply apologize for the hiatus and hope to get back on some sort of schedule soon. They reach a sort of conclusion about the different types of games that have maximum replayability and wax nostalgic about Final Fantasy Tactics. Ah, Good times!

Suikoden
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy and Glen get back into the swing of things by talking about a video game that Paul and Jimmy recently re-played: The first Suikoden. Paul grew up with this game series and is very knowledgeable of the series overall. Jimmy has watched Paul play countless hours of Suikoden and Suikoden 2 and was ready to play himself. In this episode, Paul and Glen talk Jimmy through some general Dungeon Master tips as Jimmy begins his journey to Dungeon Mastery. In this episode, Glen and Jimmy talk about a show they hold near and dear to their hearts: Adventure Time! Paul couldn't make it this week so the boys are able to really geek out about one of their all-time favorite shows. If you've never watched Adventure Time then these two would believe that you are severely missing out on a very special show. This show is crazy, yo. WHAT TIME IS IT?

E3pisode (E3 2017)
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen discuss the biggest video gaming expo that happens every year: The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3. They all agree that per usual there are some better presenters than others but overall what they've seen at E3 this year excites them for the rest of the year. They focus on Nintendo as a fan-favorite and because they're really excited for Breath of the Wild DLC. Paul and Jimmy distrust marketing tactics that try to exploit the audiences but also can't come up with better ways to convey gameplay to the masses. They take the ideas behind Sea of Thieves and try to make a better game (Cool Games Inc. style). It's expo time for the most current topic the boys have ever discussed! Stop releasing Skyrim!!

The Future of the Pod
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen give you a peek behind the curtain and let you listeners all know what's going on with the podcast. Glen is moving to a different state so he won't be right beside Paul and Jimmy anymore. Did you want to here us talk about podcasting for an hour? No? Well too bad! The boys wax nostalgic about early iterations of the podcast as well as the trials and tribulations of starting a podcast while in school. They revisit a few older concepts and come up with a few more future episode ideas in the mean time. Ultimately, they jammer on about what this podcast means to them and what we hope you, the listener, are getting out of it (if anything). We always appreciate feedback and love to hear from anyone and everyone. This episode also features our new Intro and Outro music from our good friend, John Kim. This is truly the most META podcast we've ever done.

Life, the Universe and Everything - Puzzle Platformers with Karl - Part 2
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen are joined by Karl again to finish talking about just about everything that comes to their minds while playing philosophical puzzle platformers: The Witness & Talos Principle. If you enjoy deep, philosophical conversation then we encourage you to stick around for this episode where the boys delve deep into the meaning of life in this current era. Glen questions everything, Paul questions everything, Karl smiles in the corner, and Jimmy has a dumb look on his face (per usual). Learn to think; this episode of Meta'd Podcast.

Puzzles, Platformers and More Part 1 - With Special Guest Karl
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen along with special guest Karl talk about teaming up to go to a real "Escape Room" and how that experience was similar and dissimilar to playing 3D puzzle platformers such as Portal. The boys get a bit philosophical today while talking a bit about what makes a puzzle a puzzle and how solving something in real life has different rewards than solving a puzzle in a video game. This episode can count as a sort of "primer" for next week where we'll be talking specifically about a few of our favorite 3D puzzle platformers: Talos Principle and The Witness. Both the Talos Principle and The Witness make us very excited for the genre of 3D puzzle platformers and we'll ride that proverbial airplane until it crashes and burns. Find the solutions on this episode of Meta'd Podcast. If you want to help the show out leave us a review wherever you listen to us!

The Halo Series
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen talk about all things Halo. They focus mainly on the games that were made by Bungie but also quickly touch on Halo 4 and 5 made by 343 Studios. Overall, the gang is way more familiar with the original trilogy and have cherished memories about the 3 Halos. Halo Reach and ODST are also very good games that get a little discussion. They make dirty jokes at the expense of Nathan Fillion's good name and also try their hardest to get those dank cereal sponsorships. It's time to finish this fight for the last time maybe.

Path of Exile - With Special Guest Tom
In this episode, Paul and Jimmy, along with special guest Tom, talk about a game they all hold near and dear to their hearts: Path of Exile. No Glen this week for forseen reasons but he will return next week! This episode has a wide range of knowledge about the game from Tom who has clocked in thousands of hours to Jimmy who has played a bit but sucks and gets frustrated too easily. Paul loves to mess around with non-ideal builds and Tom plays for keeps. The boys find a double entendre in the developers "Grinding Gear Games" that blew their freaking minds. They talk a lot about how amazingly "cool" and fun the game is and how accessible it is to anyone. If you haven't played Path of Exile and like video games that take you on amazing journeys then you are missing out on a very unique (and very well developed) gaming experience.

Breath of the Wild - Revisited
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, Glen and Daniel are back to talk about The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.. again! Join the dudes as they delve deep into the story of the newest Zelda game and talk at length about what they liked and didn't like about it; a month later. There are LOTS of spoilers in this episode so if you haven't played Breath of the Wild and don't want MAJOR PLOT POINTS spoiled for you, you should probably steer clear of this episode (Sorry!). Paul and Jimmy defend what Daniel and Glen call a "lack of story." Glen finally played and beat the game and has a lot to say about it!

Pokémon?
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen discuss the worldwide phenomenon of Pokémon. Well... to say they "discuss" anything may be giving them too much credit this episode. Strap in for a wild ride of emotions and nostalgia in this episode about all things Pokémon. They talk about the video games, the show, the trading card game and much more. Glen loses his brother to the void. Jimmy makes more awful star trek references. Paul tries to have meaningful discussion but is rebuffed. Gotta catch 'em all!

MOBAs
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen talk about Multiplayer Online Battle Arena Games (MOBAs). They have some really good conversations about the state of the genre overall as well as the influence MOBAs have had on E-Sports and gaming. Dota 2 and League of Legends are the two games most focused on in this episode. Glen laments e-sports being shown on ESPN. Heroes of the Storm gets praised by Paul for being a simple MOBA that is easily accesible and fun in short bursts. The Kelsie's Korner wraps this episode up with a salty AF bow and they give a shoutout to Fans of the Genre who launched a new website linked below. Get back in your lane!

The Elder Scrolls - Morrowind to Skyrim
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen talk about the Elder Scrolls series, but more specifically Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. Paul talks about the idyllic nature of Morrowind and the shortcomings of Oblivion and Skyrim in order to have the games be more 'marketable'. Glen waxes nostalgic about simpler times in college while glitching his way through Skyrim. They literally talk about The Pirates of the Carribean movie for at least 4 minutes. Glen gets confused between James Bond and Skyrim. They create an explicit mod. Jimmy attempts to get a brand deal. As always there's a new Kelsie's Korner for the poet in all of us. Listen in!

The Animal Crossing Series - With Special Guest Sarah
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen along with special guest Sarah talk about a series of games they all hold near and dear to their hearts: Animal Crossing. They cover the series beginnings with the Gamecube version in America all the way to the current 3DS games. Sarah still plays Animal Crossing which baffles the rest of the Meta'd crew and she totally schools them all with her knowledge of the series. Paul and his siblings gang up on a defenseless bear. Jimmy briefly talks about the obvious 'goals' of playing The Sims. Glen loses it a few times and we introduce a new segment of the show: Kelsie's Korner. Kelsie's Korner is a short segment with a themed haiku for each episode. Enjoy!

The Mass Effect Series: Then and Now
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen talk about the Mass Effect series. Strap in, from Mass Effect 1 to Mass Effect: Andromeda, the dudes talk about their love of the Mass Effect universe and its failings after the first game. They listen to Space Radio and talk at length about how immediately apparent it was that the series was on the decline after Mass Effect 1. Glen shares some stories about Mass Effect 3 and gives a scathing review of Andromeda. They also attempt their best British accents at the end of the episode at the behest of the We're Not Wizards podcast. Enjoy!

Board Games
In this episode, Paul, Jimmy, and Glen talk for the first time about a non-video-game topic! Board games are up for discussion this week and the boys talk in depth about the veritable "sweet spot" for games that are approachable but not stupidly easy. Paul and Glen get made fun of by jocks who would rather be playing Catan. Glen outs himself as a communist. They all riff on Munchkin for appealing to a different demographic but also being too gamey and praise some games that they played during their formitave years. Paul rants about Secret Hitler ruining a Christmas get-together. There are a ton of rants and rambles in this episode about board games but it just goes to show how much of an impact board gaming has had on the Meta'd Podcast crew. We also give a brief shout out to a Fellow Pod: We're Not Wizards which is a regularly scheduled podcast that is ALWAYS about board games and is very entertaining (Linked Below).

The Evolution of Arcades
In this episode, Jimmy and Glen (PAUL COULDN'T MAKE IT THIS WEEK) talk about the ever changing medium of video games and the transition of arcades to home consoles back to social gatherings. We talk about how our earliest memories of arcade gaming are cemented in our minds and how that helped shape our current feelings about arcade gaming. We disrespect air hockey manufacturers and praise old arcade reward systems. Overall, we talk a lot about how the decline of arcades in the early to mid 2000's was due to home-console use and that the shifting demographics of gamers led to the logical conclusion of Barcades and the like.
