Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.

This week on MHM we are talking about THE INCREDIBLES, a 2004 Disney Pixar movie about a family of superheroes who have to hide their powers and how that shapes their identity and relationships. Also, this was HB’s first time watching the movie in its entirety!

In this episode, HB & LB connect personal experiences and societal observations to the film's portrayal of superheroes dealing with real-life challenges, emphasizing the importance of understanding one's worth beyond societal metrics and the power of showing up authentically. The conversation is interspersed with considerations on the impact of cultural messages on mental health and concludes with a reflection on personal growth and the realization of individual potential.

Questions, themes, and topics we touch on include:

  • What makes you special beyond external validation and societal expectations
  • Finding personal fulfillment
  • Shaping identity
  • Family dynamics & gender roles
  • Addressing the present through a lens from the past
  • Body shaming and self-acceptance
  • Being present vs chasing the “glory days”

22. RAYA: A Recap of a True Warrior Princess

Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development. On this very different episode of MHM, I (LB) try to recap the conversation HB & I had recorded about RAYA from Raya and the Last Dragon — but it was, alas, lost into the technological ether [insert several crying face emojis]. While this short recap barely scratches the surface of the amazing original conversation we had, I tried my best to remember the gems we discovered while discussing topics and themes including: Trust Chosen family Greed Unity / friendship / community Grief As well as why we love Raya and our favorite quotes, characters, and themes from the movie. We also discussed Kelly Marie Tran being the voice actress for Raya and what it means for her to voice this character after being bullied off the internet: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/resurrection-of-kelly-marie-tran-on-surviving-star-wars-bullying-the-pressures-of-representation-and-raya-and-the-last-dragon-4142178/ PS: if anyone is Zoom savvy and can help us recover our lost episode…please let us know by emailing mhm.thepodcast@gmail.com Thank you for listening to this episode of the Mental Health Multiverse podcast and for spending time with us! Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.

In this episode, your hosts HB & LB talk all about BELLE from Beauty and the Beast with special guest Lindley (aka @littlelottie on Insta & TikTok)!

Lindley Key is a New York-based actress, content creator, and award-winning cosplayer who might be best known for her viral conversation with Brendan Fraser on TikTok. She taught herself to sew during lockdown and one of her most notable handmade pieces is a crossover of Belle from Beauty and the Beast with Claire Fraser of Outlander - she calls it her “Bonnie and the Beast.” That and her musical theater background are why we asked her to “be our guest” for the Belle episode of MHM!

In this episode we discuss our favorite scenes, characters, and quotes as well as themes such as the great stockholm syndrome debate, post traumatic growth, obsession, and loss.

    08. POCAHONTAS: The Nuances of Disney’s Character

    08. POCAHONTAS: The Nuances of Disney’s Character

Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.

This week on MHM looks a little different. HB & LB wanted to talk about Pocahontas and while she is considered a Disney Princesses – and is definitely an empowering Disney character – we know that the Disney movie is nowhere near the true story of Matoaka. So, out of respect, we aren’t going to do a full, traditional episode.

After some discussion between us and feedback from Indigenous folks and friends, we understand it’s hard to navigate the nuance of this colonized, whitewashed story. We had talked about maybe bringing on an Indigenous Disney fan to discuss the movie but then also received the feedback that could be seen as asking for emotional labor. But we fully and completely recognize the Disney-fied character has been empowering and inspiring to many.

It’s not easy to separate and compartmentalize the Disney movie and the true story. But as delicately as we can, we'd like share what we like about the Disney character and empowering takeaways we may have noticed from the movie.

Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.

This week on MHM we are FINALLY talking about Cinderella with special guest Chloe! comes from Albany, New York and has been a lifelong Disney Princess fanatic. She's been cosplaying for 7 years and working as a professional princess and character performer for 4. In October of 2022 (just 6 months ago!) she opened her own business, Fantasy First Character Entertainment, which provides character performances for events of all sizes and audiences of all ages. Fantasy First has a variety of characters, but their most popular and most booked are their princesses! Her favorite is Cinderella and we had a really good time debunking some myths about this misunderstood princess.

We talk: breaking cycles of abuse, the power of kindness and friendship, subconsciously internalizing problematic messaging, and most importantly, LB finally gets to dispel some of the common misconceptions about Cinderella as a “disempowered” princess.

Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.

This week on MHM we talk all about the main characters of The Hunchback of Notre Dame with special guest Abelle! Abelle is a queer non-binary person who’s also a lifelong nerd, artist, and fan of all things spooky. They’re also a giant animation nerd who absolutely loves geeking out about what makes it such a unique medium for storytelling and expression. We are so excited Abelle was able to join us for this discussion.

We talk about the more problematic areas of Hunchback as well as reasons we love the three main characters - who all serve as the damsel in distress of this story at some point throughout the film. Some themes that come up in our conversation include religious trauma/upbringing, racism and unconscious bias, manipulation/abuse, and jealousy/lust. Is this the DARKEST Disney Movie?

Welcome to Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development. How can you use fandom and media to feel more empowered in your everyday life?

Join Marisa (LB) and Heather (HB) as they dissect movies and tv shows to break stigmas, shed light on misinterpretations, and help you understand why you relate to the characters you love so deeply.

This episode is an introduction to your hosts HB & LB and why they started MHM in the first place!

Season One of MHM will focus on Strong, Empowering Disney Heroines!

We will discuss Disney heroines through the lens of:

    • Marisa (LB): Marisa is a trauma-informed perfectionism recovery coach helping people turn down the volume on the inner critic and turn up the volume on their compassionate inner voice to help them become the kind, understanding adult they needed growing up.
