08. POCAHONTAS: The Nuances of Disney’s Character
Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.
This week on MHM looks a little different. HB & LB wanted to talk about Pocahontas and while she is considered a Disney Princesses – and is definitely an empowering Disney character – we know that the Disney movie is nowhere near the true story of Matoaka. So, out of respect, we aren’t going to do a full, traditional episode.
After some discussion between us and feedback from Indigenous folks and friends, we understand it’s hard to navigate the nuance of this colonized, whitewashed story. We had talked about maybe bringing on an Indigenous Disney fan to discuss the movie but then also received the feedback that could be seen as asking for emotional labor. But we fully and completely recognize the Disney-fied character has been empowering and inspiring to many.
It’s not easy to separate and compartmentalize the Disney movie and the true story. But as delicately as we can, we'd like share what we like about the Disney character and empowering takeaways we may have noticed from the movie.

07. CINDERELLY, Cinderelly! With Chloe [aka Local H0ney]
Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.
This week on MHM we are FINALLY talking about Cinderella with special guest Chloe! comes from Albany, New York and has been a lifelong Disney Princess fanatic. She's been cosplaying for 7 years and working as a professional princess and character performer for 4. In October of 2022 (just 6 months ago!) she opened her own business, Fantasy First Character Entertainment, which provides character performances for events of all sizes and audiences of all ages. Fantasy First has a variety of characters, but their most popular and most booked are their princesses! Her favorite is Cinderella and we had a really good time debunking some myths about this misunderstood princess.
We talk: breaking cycles of abuse, the power of kindness and friendship, subconsciously internalizing problematic messaging, and most importantly, LB finally gets to dispel some of the common misconceptions about Cinderella as a “disempowered” princess.

06. ESMERALDA: The Hero, The Heroine, and The Hunchback with Abelle
Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.
This week on MHM we talk all about the main characters of The Hunchback of Notre Dame with special guest Abelle! Abelle is a queer non-binary person who’s also a lifelong nerd, artist, and fan of all things spooky. They’re also a giant animation nerd who absolutely loves geeking out about what makes it such a unique medium for storytelling and expression. We are so excited Abelle was able to join us for this discussion.
We talk about the more problematic areas of Hunchback as well as reasons we love the three main characters - who all serve as the damsel in distress of this story at some point throughout the film. Some themes that come up in our conversation include religious trauma/upbringing, racism and unconscious bias, manipulation/abuse, and jealousy/lust. Is this the DARKEST Disney Movie?
